This vertical jump method was discovered by a Russian scientist and coach Yuriy Verkhoshanski.
Back in the 1970’s the Russians dominated track and field because they were the only ones in the world who used shock training.
However, After the rest of the world discovered this secret Russian training method the Russians stopped being so dominant.
Shock vertical jump training focuses on these two plyometric exercises:
Drop Jumps and Depth Jumps.
Drop Jumps help you absorb the force when you land with both feet.
Depth Jumps help you absorb the force when you land and transfer it into your jump.
Beginner Shock Training Exercise
Drop Jumps 4 sets of 4 reps
Intermediate Shock Training Exercise
Depth Jump For Vertical Height 4 sets of 4 reps
Depth Jumps For Distance 4 sets of 4 reps
Advanced Shock Training
Depth Jumps On a Box 4 sets of 4 reps
Depth Jumps Over A Box 4 sets of 4 reps
When doing drop jumps the height of the box should be equivalent to your best standing vertical jump.
You must have strong strength levels before doing depth jumps - which means being able to squat at least 1.5 times your bodyweight.
You can still do depth jumps if you can’t squat 1.5 times your body weight but make sure that the height of the box that you are using is less than 18 inches.
If you can’t squat 1.5 times your bodyweight then do the drop jump for 4 sets of 4 reps before your strength leg workout
If you can squat at least 1.5 times your bodyweight then do the drop jumps along with one or two of the depth jumps for 4 sets of 4 reps.
