Well I just found one of my new favorite monkey groups to watch. This is the first one I've watched and they are beyond adorable.. my heart always goes out to the poor little babies that lived in human homes and have to go through this kind of adjustment.

Loved that you showed that bit of chaos, because there is _always_ some kind of chaos involved in any animal fostering 😆 It was quite the shock intro to "monkey dynamics" for that little one, who had been a pet, but looks like it all ended very well. Love the obvious camaraderie between y'all too!

My favorite part was watching the foster mother stay calm and hold on to the babies, and try to comfort them while ready to fight and protect them. I also love how she seemed not to worried because the human troop had it under control, it's like she knew it would be ok. What a great video , thankyou!😍😍😍💕🐒💕

That move to the intro enclosure was wild! Is that common for the bandits to swarm the area like that?? Poor little Konjo (sp?) looked so scared. I’m super surprised (but glad) that he was able to calm down so fast seeing as how he’s a former pet. Great episode!

Tahisha Tolbert Yeah, that’s how Vervets fight. They are very territorial and they loooove fighting through the fence with DnD because their sleeping area is right beside the enclosure. Basically that falllen tree in the background that you can see, that whole area is their main zone, so most of them were already hanging out, but also no one wants to miss out on a good fight lol. Yeah, Konjo impressed everyone that day and Merlin and Timny definitely helped 😊 Thanks for watching, I’m glad you enjoyed it so much ✌️

Thank you guys for all you do!!!!! I only wish I had the resources to make an amazing impact on the world like you guys do!!!!! I have learned so much from sanctuary vlogs that teach people how to support creatures in wildlife the right way. My passion is animals and going to sea world, or swimming with dolphins, or going to the circus and paying to get in is supporting these animals in captivity and allowing these animals to be treated inhumane and just all sorts of wrong things. I have since realized that my dream of swimming with dolphins is solely for me and they don't have a say. Doing all these things that these animals shouldn't be doing for the pleasure of humans. Although we don't think we are doing harm we don't realize that we are. These animals deserve to live their life not based upon our happiness and desires to be close to them for our enjoyment. Truly supporting them is in the wild or a sanctuary. I have told my children the same thing. Although magical experiences can be paid for they are not magical behind the scenes. I'm rambling but just wanted to say that I have learned so much and I hope people follow suit!!!! Btw is there an age limit on volunteer work? I would love to do this with my daughter who is 13. I think this would be an amazing experience to do together. Thanks guys

Kara Beltran your absolutely right and I’m so happy to hear that you have changed your mind and make such an active effort to inform others, that’s very admirable. 18 is the minimum age, but we have had younger as long as they volunteer with their parents, I think 13 is a little too young, but please email info@vervet.co.za to inquire further. ✌️

We love you guys for all that you do there is so much labor and effort these videos show what looks to be lots of upbeat happy yes concerned people so if anyone who watches these videos has actually done any volunteer rescuing not just for a few hours then off ya go, but actually taken on round the clock dedication to any rescue and rehab then release volunteer work you will agree it is not for the weak or those who dont like work or those who insist on putting themselves first, there are sleepless nights endless worry but hopefulness abundant, there are times when you are emotionally drained and feel as if you are not making much of an impact, but when surrounded by like minded people not only your head but your very soul is in the most loving nurturing kind most solid human beings you could ever hope to know let alone be surrounded by, when you give of yourself you will find all thast your soul longs for or has been missing, it is only by losing yourself that you are truly satisfied with the most amazing gift you could never buy and the only gift most yearned for that you can only earn by giving of yourself...that is love...when you rescue and you put your whole self in that precious life or every life you are fighting for the universe and you are one..it is so hard to describe, you are safe amongst the people who share your efforts it takes everyone involved to put their whole heart into these rescues it is so much more than just doing the right thing, it is living the right way, being the change, not jusdt talking about it, but living the change this world so direly needs right now. I am often alone in my rescues but it is a phone call away to be rejuvenated when i call a friend who also rescues, it is a call to her that gives me that support that funny conversation about the rescued orphan looking fat fluffy and happy and me needing a shower a good nights sleep and a comb through my tangled matted pony tail..its the deep anguish when no matter what u have done you still lose the battle and an orphan dies, that is the worst feeling as if your own has died. It is not for the weak, and yet it is the most powerful gift that makes you so strong each rescue, it is the courage to shimmy underneath a building to retrieve a weak crying kitten or bird or baby racoon or oppossum or squirrel or hummingbird or falcon or hawk, or bunny or puppy..wild animals that bite while you are rescuing them or other predators attacking you while you are taking their lunch aka baby or injured animal from them. All these things believe it or not are beyond description in your soul every single step you take towards the goodness of intent and always keeping aware that these adorable rescues are released properly and if you cannot promise to help then dont be an egomaniac and only give rescues partial effort it is all or nothing. Dont be a crazy that has 56 animals to one person because that is unrealistic and cruel to hold them hostage barely keeping them all alive. Be kind to one another, life is sweet.

I am a relatively new viewer. I love your site & especially all that you do for these precious monkeys. I have 1 question - what causes the adult monkeys to lick their lips in a rapid fashion, what is the meaning of it? I have noticed this, also, in other kinds of monkeys as well. It seems it is mostly the adults who do it or it is the most noticeable. just loooove watching you all working with the monkeys; also, I love your narration so we know what is going on & why.

Do you also take in adults? I imagine that process is more of a challenge, I would assume troupes won't accept outsider adults so readily.
@VervetMonkey
@VervetMonkey 6 жыл бұрын
MadHouse736 * yes we do. Many ex-pets and injured monkeys who cannot be released back to their troop, and various others. It’s always more of a challenge to integrate an adult, but it has its own method and we are very successful.
@FilmerOfBobcats
@FilmerOfBobcats 6 жыл бұрын
With wolves you can easily integrate a pup up to 6 months old into an existing pack. Beyond that age, they lose their "puppy license" and are treated aggressively like strange adults. Is there a "baby license" for vervets during which they are accepted readily and their impolite (to other monkeys) behavior is overlooked?
@megstark9940
@megstark9940 6 жыл бұрын
Hey there! It is certainly much easier at times to integrate babies as opposed to juveniles and adults, especially when they have been kept as pets and haven't grown up with "monkey etiquette". However, our integration process is very much based on the individual and sometimes it takes some of them longer to learn:) Our integration team is patient and follows their lead so they can form bonds and learn the ways of the vervet to eventually become a successful integration, as long as it may take. In the end, it's totally worth the time and effort once a monkey becomes apart of the troop :D
@VervetMonkey
@VervetMonkey 6 жыл бұрын
FilmerOfBobcats yes, there is definitely a point where the babies are no longer looked at as babies. It’s generally around a year old, but even with some of the ex-pet 6+ month olds the moms aren’t interested, it’s more the juveniles who make friends, but the adults are a little more respectful of the age than say if it were a 3 year old monkey, it comes down more to fear on the individuals part than actual aggression from the troop when integrating the younger ones, but even then there can be the odd one in the troop who has to be isolated during an integration just because they cause so much stress for the young one trying to join.
