It’s too bad that won’t stop the violence. Love you bro, but making more laws does not help. Making drugs illegal has done so well for the drug war, right? We need better education on guns, just like people need to be properly educated on drugs. Taking them and making them harder to get does nothing but make it worse for everyone, including the people fighting to make it harder to get a gun. This affects y’all too. Look at Chicago. Strictest gun laws in America, yet simultaneously, have the HIGHEST murder by guns per capita. I’m not saying I’m right, I’m just saying that history has proven it doesn’t work that way (in more ways than Chicago, just first thing that comes to mind). To everyone who wants to donate, donate. Just make sure the money is going to help these families that lost their precious kids and teachers. Such a sad and despicable thing to do, regardless of what isle you fall into.

A kid in my grade was gonna shoot up the school and posted about it on tumblr. The kids who bullied him and stalked him tumblr saw it and told their parents, their parents reported it, and the kid’s backpack was searched the next morning. He had tons of guns and ammo packed. There aren’t any articles about this. It didn’t make the news. But it almost did. Talking with friends from other towns, it seems like a lot of them have similar experiences. I wonder how many attempts there really are that we never learn about. Way too many young boys think the solution to their suffering is guns. We need to raise boys who can understand their emotions and talk them out. We need positive masculinity, not violence.

Is this situation not dire enough that we're willing to try anything? See if it works? People just say "criminals will still get the guns". Nobody is even talking about stopping all gun crime. Nobody is saying you're not going to be able to hunt or protect your home. We're talking about making a dent in a type of mass shooting that is particular to the US. The fact that in the US gun control is so minimal. They were so careless, so much so that there is way too often tragedies of that kind happening.

My school had like a walkout thing at 12pm in the football field and we all sat on the bleachers while two girls were talking about the shooting and the kids who died like yk what you'd expect but oh my god I hate everyone in my school So we were doing like- the girls were calling out the names of the people who died and for every name they said, a minute of silence would come after so it was like 21 minutes of silence And everyone around me was like whispering and complaining and the thing about this event was that it was optional. They could have stayed in 3rd period. They could have went to lunch. But instead they sat there complaining about the heat and how hungry they were while we were supposed to be silent. After the 21 minute thing and after the girls gave us some ways to help with gun control, the principal made a short speech (let's ignore how ready everyone was to leave) adding on his thoughts about it and oh my god people treated it like a comedy show. Like they made fun of it and they were trying to hold back laughs- you could tell by their tone of voice that they weren't taking this shit seriously and I was so tempted to kick them off the bleachers. The girls talked about how it could have happened to us (we actually had a code red a few weeks ago, luckily no one was hurt) but like you don't need to imagine if it was you- you can still have empathy for the kids who died- the kids who were 9-10 years old and you can have empathy for the teachers who died without fucking imaging if that could have happened to you It was clear that most kids used it as a way to get out of 3rd period and goof off. But I really do understand your frustration and am so sympathetic towards it. It’s so fucking sad that kids these days are becoming desensitized to horrific violence like mass shootings. They should be sickened, sad, horrified, afraid, worried about their country’s future. But it’s only America’s fault for letting this happen for so long that these kids just breeze right by it.

Had that happen at my school in 2018 when that shooting happened in Florida. 18 minutes of silence after reading each person's names. But right in the last minute class let out and people started crossing the court yard. And of course the little freshmen boys who don't get enough attention at home had to be edgy and called us "pussies" or whatever. Not like anyone even paid them mind. It was honestly embarrasing

I live in a state of Australia that experienced a mass murder in 1996. The site was literally an hour and a half away from my house. That was the biggest mass murder in modern Australia's history. It took the government ONE WEEK to start discussing gun controls in parliament. Now guns are illegal, and I have never had to worry about guns or dying because of gun violence. I can't even imagine having to go to school every day in a country where basically anyone has a "right" to own a gun, and then again and again having these people abuse this, and NOTHING BEING DONE!!!!

It's hilarious too because he's SUPPOSED to be a critical thinker, so he should understand that beauty standards are COMPLETELY made up and vary greatly from culture to culture and throughout time. The fact that he's saying that the eurocentric western beauty standard is THE ABSULUTE biological standard of beauty is insane. (even though he didn't out right say it, it's pretty evident. She's not the first full figured model to grace to pages of sports illustrated, and as far as I know he never called anyone else out for "not being beautiful enough") Actually a lot of men don't like to admit that what they're attracted to has been conditioned into them. As an Asian woman who NEVER EVER saw herself represented in magazines growing up, it’s actually so refreshing and amazing to see the representation. I literally used to think something was wrong with me and my skin (I was adopted into an all white family and though they never made me feel different bc of my skin I just knew that I was). I used to think “oh those colors on her are so beautiful…. Too bad they wouldn’t compliment my darker skin….” “I love that eye shadow look but idk how it would look on my skin”. If I would’ve seen women who looked like me just represented more in media it would’ve helped so much.

Not to sound all ew, but as like a white AFAB person, hearing the like actual thoughts of a POC in society that's so like white-centric is something I think people need to hear more, because people often don't think of the nuances of small things you see in society and think "oh that wouldn't look good on me though, because I'm just not 'normal'" or whatever or "the norm" or what have you, and I think even me reading that is really enlightening. Not saying it's like "people won't understand unless you do this or that" but like, I think it's really enlightening and telling and overall illuminating on issues that I can't honestly ever fully understand, but can conceptualize easier with that stuff. Like, I say that because I've been down the alt-right route before in my life, I'm thankfully not there anymore, but like, I know vaguely how they think in that regard, and in that sense, I think that would be a kind of perspective I hope more people get to see and really let fester in their minds. Like, from my perspective, it's not a matter of relating to an Asian woman, it's a matter of "oh look, more variety, I like that" but that's still very like disjointed from the perspective of actual people of color, and I think it's something white people struggle to conceptualize a lot, ig. Idk, I'm kinda just rambling, my point wasn't to go into the concepts of racial imbalances in media but rather to commend you for that description cause I thought it was really illuminating on such issues and helped me a lot with perspectives a bit, even though I'm aware of the general concepts behind that specific kind of perspective. Kinda helped things cllck a little and I wanted to say thank you cause, ya know, that's a good thing and all. I really hope this isn't coming across condescending or anything, really, like, racial aspects of society are something I'm less able to put into words well or really understand, because in a lot of other aspects, I understand being the minority, so it can feel a little jarring to have to be on the other side of things, ig? Cause I'm white, but I'm also a gay trans dude, so there's a level of empathy and understanding in being a minority in that sense, but at the same time, it's really not the same and I can't pretend it is. And it's a little weird to talk about those issues and stuff cause I really don't wanna come across like the very type of person I have to fight against in those other areas, knowing this isn't my topic to really discuss and all of that. So yeah, TLDR: Thank you for putting that into perspective because while I know having representation matters, as a person of minorities in other aspects than race, I also didn't have a good idea of how representation racially impacts people growing up, and even the minor examples are really enlightening. (Like you're not always aware how representation can matter when you've always had it.)

I was a junior in high school when the parkland shooting happened and I really thought things were going to change after that. I did whatever I could to help as a 16/17 year old girl in Iowa, like writing letters to Congress, going to protests against gun violence and advocating for gun control, donating to non profits like every town, but it became more and more discouraging whenever I’d hear about another shooting. I’m studying right now to be a math teacher and I never thought I’d feel like I was putting my life on the line to teach math but here we are. It’s hard not to feel powerless in this situation especially after so many people have fought so unbelievably hard for gun control but it helps to know that we’re all still trying to do what we can

My daughter was a Junior in high school, and one day while I was at work, I got a text from her telling me that "everything was OK, and she was safe for now". Her classroom was hunkered down in the dark, behind a locked door, because there was a shooter in the school. I have never, NEVER, been so terrified in my life. The thought of losing my girl... I don't wish that nightmare on ANYONE. All the kids were taken out of the school unharmed that day. Her school was on the 24 hour news cycle, wash, rinse, repeat. I had told her from a much too young age that if there is ever a shooter in her school, she has ONE JOB - she is to stay alive. Just... stay alive. Imagine saying something like that to your child. Imagine having to say that to your child. Imagine sending your child to school in the morning and never seeing them again. She's a college student now, but that fear lives in me. What a time to be alive, right? Why doesn't anything change? She didn't ask for this. She doesn't deserve this. No young person deserves to grow up like this. Anyway. Thank you for this fundraiser. It's important. As grim as things seem sometimes (well, mostly all the time now), we can't ever give up.

Small rant about being a student in the USA: Every time I hear someone come over the intercom it’s like my heart stops. As I hear someone over the speaker say “(school name) staff and students….. at this time…” no matter who is saying it I freak out. And I feel like I should be numb by now but I also don’t want to be numb because I want to be able to feel for these people. The sound of the intercom beeping on is like an alarm going off telling me I could die at any moment. It’s a reminder of where I live and the people who want to hurt others.

The fact that children are losing their lives, often at the hands of other children, because some adults will throw a tantrum when you try to suggest that maybe they shouldn't be able to get hold of highly dangerous killer weapons, all because they can't understand that a law that was put in place 300+ years ago might not be as relevant or important in the modern day, is complete insanity... The most I had to worry about in school was that one time a crazy guy flashed us from outside the gates, but we could all just laugh and throw things at him, because we didn't have to worry about him potentially shooting us...
