Thanks for watching! Please watch all the way to the end and let me know if there's any videos you want to see more content on.
A follow up to my last video…..replacing the ESC with a VESC. The ESC I got wasn’t able to handle all the power that the battery and motors were using and it burned out pretty quick.
This upgraded piece of hardware is going to allow me so many more options with making the board custom. Programing the VESC with my Amazon Fire 7 tablet was super easy with the Flipsky bluetooth module and all of the wires were plug and play.
The VX1 remote is an awesome little remote for basic builds. It doesn’t give you any digital read outs but has vibration sensors to alert you of low battery and things like that.
Super excited to share this with you, I hope you enjoy!

You sir are amazing! I love your videos. No obnoxious music, perfect explanations, great workmanship, and an overall enjoyable watching experience! Keep up the great content! If possible, I’d love to see a build with quad motors!

Wow, what a compliment! I can’t thank you enough for taking your time to say that. I will continue improving and making videos for you guys for sure! I’m in the process of getting parts for a single motor build and then a 4 motor build is next. A friend gifted me the perfect deck for that with some all wheel tires. It’s gonna be fun! Thank you again! 🙏🏼🙌🏼

I had the same problem with the power cutting off when I put weight on the board. The cause of the problem was the antenna randomly shorting out. The end of the antenna wire comes with a tape which is part of the antenna. The tape contains metal foil inside it. The tape got pulled off exposing bare antenna wire. The antenna wire is a coax cable with an outer and inner wire. The exposed inner and outer wires would randomly short out. The fix is to remove 2cm of the outer sheath then remove 2cm of the braided wire. Use a pin to open the braid and cut it off. This will leave 2cm of the inner wire with a inner sheath around it exposed.

in short, ITS YOUR BATTERY! well not exactly the battery but the BMS. your esc probably 100% works fine, after I watch the video Im 100% sure its your BMS, your battery wiring is correct and nothing wrong, and that is the main problem, your BMS discharge rate probably like 20A or 30A and you user 10s3p 30Q its like 45A continuous or 60A burst and what is that mean? if your battery discharge below your bms rate, there will be no problem but then the discharge exceed the rate like 40A the BMS will cut the power and yell "BRACE YOURSELF!". builder usually use direct discharge and BMS for charge only, so why your VESC works fine? probably, because you set the current limit to below the BMS discharge rate but there is nothing wrong with using VESC, worth it. my suggestion is check your bms wiring and use direct discharge or you better preared to "FLY" again.

What do you think the problem is for my board. The remote will disconnect after a few minutes of riding and I'll have to turn the board off and back on for it to work again. I'm not running a bms though and I'm using lipo batteries. Dual esc on hub motors.
@ADayintheLifeofMr23
@ADayintheLifeofMr23 3 жыл бұрын
Tough to say. There’s a short somewhere it sounds like. I was having an issue with the board powering off completely and then I would have to push the switch to off then back on. But if it’s just the remote cutting out you could check out the connections for the remote. See if you can find any loose connections or something.

Pro tip. When you solder the XT connector on the battery, solder one terminal and leave the other one still attached to the old connector so you don't have possibility of a short.

So the main problem really is that you used BMS for discharge? Some DIY esk8 used BMS for charging only cause it would die or trip when you reach the maximum amps rated for that BMS. And i think you have to change your description :).
@ADayintheLifeofMr23
@ADayintheLifeofMr23 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the comment. That’s what it does seem to be with the BMS. It was a cheaper BMS too so all the more reason to use it for charge only. Super appreciate you! Thanks again!

I was thinking exactly the same thing. Probably wasn’t your esc but likely your bms. For electric skateboards I’d always recommend bypassing the bms for discharge and setting voltage limits in the vesc software. I’ve had this exact same issue with two different boards. And when you plug in the charger the bms gets reset

I'm using a esc for hoverboards motors, connecting everything will be easy. But will I have to charge the battery from the direct power line? Or could a adapt something on the esc?
@ADayintheLifeofMr23
@ADayintheLifeofMr23 Жыл бұрын
The ESC doesn’t really handle charging. It’s just the speed controller. The charging is typically handled through the BMS on the battery itself. So you would have to wire a charger to the battery management system. Hope that helps!
@antonioromero9145

It’s cutting off due to overvolting, i had that problem with the esc then discovered you can select between 6s 8s or 10s by soldering the connections together I ran 12s on the 10s setting it handled it well until like 100 running hours later one of the capacitors popped due to user error
@ADayintheLifeofMr23
@ADayintheLifeofMr23 2 жыл бұрын
Perhaps that could be why the ESC failed. But it was pre programmed for 10s batteries from where I got it from. There was no ability to program the ESC or alter the settings. In my case the ESC failed and lost power. Either way, it really sucked!

I used a voltage regulator for the led light strip I had. I wired it directly to the battery and the led can’t take that high of voltage so it just stepped it down to the appropriate voltage to power the led strip.

Still strange to me that esk8 escs or vesc set for 8s 10s as different, not one that run 2-14s for example, rc cars and quad esc have auto cell voltage detection, and you program them too, aka the V or vedder or variable ESC VESC so limited for esk8? why? Why not call them a PESC? Programmable ESC?

What’s your take on Torque Boards motors? Taking a pole before I drop a couple thousand dollars on a setup. I’ve seen some bad reviews in terms of customer service and motor issues. Just wanted another take. I may buy from Bioboards.se but they are expensive...
@ADayintheLifeofMr23
@ADayintheLifeofMr23 3 жыл бұрын
Wow those are some nice specs from them tho! I haven’t had any experience with torque boards directly. My 2 cents about all these types of companies.......there isn’t really going to be a customer service standard that you would normally find from say a corporate type of store. I used a different company when I first got all my parts and had a similar experience with bad customer service and faulty parts. My conclusion about the parts is that they are all manufactured by the same or similar companies overseas. The specific brands like torque board motors are just rebranded with their logo even tho they are just generic motors. I think what can happen with the motors failing can sometimes be user error. If the programming isn’t done correctly on the vesc you can overload the motors or cause them to burn out prematurely. I don’t know if that’s the case for all..... I’m sure some can be quality control as well. Don’t take my word for it but I believe all these motors with different brand names are exactly the same. Hopefully that was helpful and wasn’t just me babbling! Haha. Thanks for the comment. Let me know what you end up going with. Would love to see your setup when you get it!
