This was so so helpful I’m so glad u said that symptoms typically last longer than a month for ppl and actually last several months or longer. B/c I felt so confused in my own google research. I was diagnosed with VN & bppv and just hit the 3 month mark last week. I didn’t see any bug signs of improvement until last week. Thank you so much for me making me feel validated and not crazy. This is a real illness that is so scary and debilitating.

Thank you for this Dr. Sullivan. Nine months ago I was hiking up in the mountains with my two dogs, and I started staggering around. No other hikers around and no phone reception. I literally staggered for three hours before I found my way down the mountains. I had someone drive me to the local hospital. The long and short of it was I received medical attention associated with a stroke. I don't have a family doctor so it has been an epic journey trying to find medical help. If only I had had access to this television presentation. I have watched every program you have produced and this was not one of them. Vestibular Neuritis is new. I had sort of zeroed in on Vestibular Migraine and tried to cope accordingly. This presentation has given me hope. I have drastically fewer dizzy spells and vertigo and have found that when I am up in the mountains if I just sit quietly on the ground with my eyes closed I can gain enough of my faculties to get up and work my way back to civilization in fits and starts. Still can't find a doctor. Here in Canada we have a critical shortage of doctors and for older people they are extremely few and far between. I'm very lucky to have found one. Dr. Sullivan. Thank you.

I started following you while I was still in ReHab after a Brain Stem Stroke. You had just posted a wonderful Video about that type of Stroke, which nobody understood. I had none of the typical stroke symptoms. The Vagus nerve and The Vestibular issue is a puzzle and on-going. So God Bless you for letting us be privy to your informational Videos! 🌹

Thank you for this I’ve been suffering for 4/5 months 😢 it’s been awful but getting better very slowly. I feel like I have concussion 24/7 it’s horrible. I’ve had CT brain scan and blood work all clear. So I’m glad it’s not sinister but it’s very unpleasant I’m housebound from it at the moment. Thank you for making this video ❤ wishing anyone suffering a speedy recovery ❤

Lived listening to the doctor here. My father-in-law has VN and feels "woozy" all the time. He had meniere's 30 to 40 years ago and recently received a cochlear implant. I've brought him to Vestibular Therapy and that along with this video has helped me understand much better. Hopefully I can help my father-in-law when he talks with his doctors to make sure he gets the best care available. This is an excellent program with lots to learn that is good for your life or the life of those you love.

Thank you for the video. I've been recovering from VN for almost 11 months. I'm thrilled to report I had 2 days last week, 6/11 and 6/13 that I hit 99%. But thats the way it works with this disorder. Its not a linear recovery, its zig zag. I had 2 days, but not consecutive, of almost total recovery followed by a set back to the 90%+ range. I know that full recovery is on the way because I started experiencing moments of full recovery then a reverting backwards since April at the 9 month mark. While some of your data was interesting and I can agree with...if you're an introvert relying on vision rather than other factors for balance it can be more of a struggle, that's not the primary reason for the continuation of symptoms. My balance was in my calves for 4.5 months. Hard work walking and hiking every day brought it back. Neuroplasticity is a long process. You have to keep telling your brain over and over to look to the left (in my case, after ear infection in right ear) and find the balance there. Muscle tightness makes the problem worse, chiropractic, massage therapy and light stretching helps with this, its why I had to discontinue VRT, the neck exercises were making my symptoms worse.

Oh man I have this right now for 8 weeks. It’s so hard. This is very helpful to just hear someone explain it in a calm way. I can definitely see if someone struggles with anxiety normally that they will really have a hard time. I have wicked anxiety from it but I’m stubborn as hell and from day one have just chosen to fight my way through this. You have to be brave, patient, and calm. The VNG tests showed my ears and eyes working well about 10 days after the acute vertigo attack but really it was about week 3-4 when the symptoms escalated to their worst. Such a trippy experience for sure.

For four months in a row I:ve been dealing wth VN Did VRT and apply the anti bacterial to my bad ear. But your lecture just validated the things I've been doing and it gave me peace of mind. Short story. I waa trying to get sleep to calm my nerves after my VRT but seemed I can't get any calmness. So I decided to stand on my feet get a garden svisdors and teimmes the overgrown crawling plant along my fence. So it reauired a lot of eye and positiinal movements. I did it well and did not feel any dizziness. We really should overcome fear sometimes. But never be over confident. Strive balance in our lifestyle in the muddle of our balance disorder.

This is so interesting. I have been dealing with dizziness/balance issues for about 6 months now- I do things like Aerial Silks/acrobatics and also figure skating and since March I've been having issues with motion sickness with flipping and spinning (and it got worse a few weeks ago where now I experience some of that Vertigo sensation. It waxes and wanes.) I've definitely stopped doing the things I love, and also- I know I have anxiety over it, I have diagnosed anxiety and other mental health disorders (bipolar 2, PTSD) so I KNOW that anxiety is playing into it. And also- I didn't know that taking antivert while doing vestibular therapy hindered the therapy or the testing! (I only found that out today at my ENT appointment.) This is all very interesting to know and I thank you for doing this video!

What is the connection of the neck and the vestibular system. I was diagnosed with cervicogenic dizziness 3 years ago. Until about 6 months ago I woke up to a spinning room. Made an appt. with ENT had VNG audio exam and balance test. Doctor told me it was labyrinthitis. Now I'm not sure if all this time it was this that was the problem and not my neck ( stenosis). Mine comes and goes. My ENT doesn't seem to push for any treatment, whether it be meds or therapy. I have seen some videos but I want to be certain I'm doing the correct therapy for my condition. Is there a difference when your neck is involved? Are the exercises the same? Do I exercise for the eyes as well as the ear?

you need to see somebody who specializes in upper cervical chiropractic care. I found out this much from social media. My ENT just sent me to physical therapy - which didn't resolve the causes of this.

I’m trying to figure out how I’m the hell I’m supposed to still work with this. I drive 22 mi each way to be a supervisor at Home Depot. I’m scared of getting in a car crash, or getting hurt at work. I’m afraid they will think I am drinking. But there seems to be no way to get any kind of disability unless I have hearing loss. I don’t have loss, and in fact I seem to be way more sensitive to loud and sudden noises. Does anyone know what I can do to be able to still pay my bills with this condition??

I can only imagine what you are going through. I'm writing this comment, 9 months after your comment here. I am blessed enough to own my own business, and have been dealing with severe dizziness and balance issues for years, and am now to the point of having to close a business that I have had since 1987. I seldom drive any more, and have my husband go shopping with me. I've had some pretty severe falls, just within the last few months, including falling in the grocery store. Talk about embarrassing! I was afraid everyone assumed that I was inebriated. My father has this as well, so I wondered if you have family members that have this? I pray for healing for you, and ask God to bless you and your family. 🙏

@@romans116blessed5 Thank you so much! It’s still me under a diff account. No family that I know of. I only have 4 blood family members. So I quit HD and went to a much more calm environment at Lowe’s. My stress level went down so much, I think that really helped. And switched to carnivore diet with occasional ripe fruit. It helped my VN and my fibromyalgia soooo much. I’m going to add back one food at a time to figure out what affects me so I can avoid it. So sorry about your business. 💔 Good luck to you and I likewise will ask the goddess and the god to shower you with healing energies. Blessed be my friend.

Thank you for this video. After listening, It has made me curious, as I had this about 11 years ago (lasted for about 3 months on steroids) and then diagnosed with FND 5 years ago at the end of this year. The Neurologist said they are not related, but watching this, it is making me wonder if my fear of falling with my functional limb weakness and eye sensitivity (both under control now) is related to the fear of falling, I had with the VN I had years earlier. I would love to know if there has been any research into the two being linked.

Is it common for vestibular disorders to disturb cognitive functions like retention? I recently started treating myself for Vertigo and discovered that I have not actually been retaining what I learn. I kind of use people, places and things as a point of reference to comprehend my environment. It's very hard on me because I was prepping for college and didn't realize I wasn't retaining the information until I graduated.
