Well, I'm glad the poor dog survived it, and that Matt got a hold of him and gave him a new lease on life. Only thing I object to was the fact that he removed his testes. Poor dog. I wouldn't submit anyone to that kind of torture. Imagine if the vietcong did that to our soldiers back in the day....oh....they did....They also used to shove glass rods up into their penises and smash them with a hammer (direct testimony from an uncle who was there). Don't get me wrong, I love Matt and what he does. He has provided many, many hours of entertainment for myself and my kids when it comes to guns and gun safety. I just don't like the thought of neutering animals. I equate it with torture and cruelty. But, then again, I'm not a freaking veterinarian, so perhaps he knows better. I don't have the extra amount of training (6 years plus?) that he has.

@ehayes2006b Just my two cents, neutering tends to reduce aggression in dogs, so they get into fewer fights and are injured less often. It also prevents potentially fatal diseases, like testicular cancer, by virtue of having no testicles to become cancerous. An added bonus, spaying/neutering prevents unwanted puppies, a good thing as the stray dog population (in the U.S. at least) is so ridiculously high that sweet adoptable dogs end up getting put down every day. I get where you're coming from, it sucks that we can't get their input on whether or not they get spayed/neutered, but as the pet owner, we have to take some responsibility for their wellbeing.

@@ehayes2006b i just wanted to let you know that neutering is done in the most painless way possible for the animal as it is not done to torture them, but done by people who love animals so much they trained for years to work with them. Animals react very differently to neutering than humans would--they don't end up depressed etc the way it would be if someone (God forbid!) did this to a human. They don't lose a sense of who they are if the balls are gone, it's just a random appendage to them. Animals heal really quickly and relatively painlessly from the process and while it means they can't breed, they never had any kind of urge to continue on a legacy or become a parent in the first place. They just had an urge to do the physical act (and they don't place a huge amount of importance on it either). If the worst happens and the dog is ever abandoned or runs away from home, being neutered means it can't make puppies who will live life on the streets, most likely in awful conditions with high mortality and sickness rates, amd very poor quality of life. I'm not saying any of this to be like "dogs are inferior to humans" but just in the hopes it will make you feel better. I can tell you would agree that its our duty as humans to do our best to take care of animals-- and one way to do that really is neutering. Its why most people who love animals so much that they dedicate their lives to hands-on work with them are so passionate about the importance of neutering. I hope this makes you feel better about it.
