My absolute favorite thing of this entire performance is the sheer energy that the drummer and congas player share in this performance. It's positively electric and elevates this entire production through the roof, they both looks like they are having the time of their lives and it makes everything about this so memorable.

@@sabin97 well that's the ideal thing to want but given most of the creators of these games are already past their prime or already in retirement, we can't expect to have the same quality of inspired masterpiece. Then the younger generations are still trapped in the same old system oiled by corporate greed that such creators cannot express their artistic passion unless the game will be a guaranteed sales. Back then games are still being mined that most of the direction is lead by the game creators themselves but now, knowing that there is infact gold in gaming, the corporations made sure to take the lead while the creators follow without resistance.

the golden era of JRPG. the good old time of frustating random battle while exploring, talking to all NPC cause you got stuck, facing a boss with zero knowledge of its element and pattern, hoarding healing potions till the last boss, and got frustated by hidden/extra boss. That was the best time ever.

Intros to RPG was one of the special things to witness as a gamer back in the day. It was a form of foreshadowing and also a hype technique to convey the type of adventures you're about to take. Looking back at my childhood, I never realized how special that is since we seldom experience that in games anymore. I truly am grateful to experience that. And this video helped me relive that moment. It gave me Goosebumps.

This rendition is so good, I come back to this about once a week (for the last 3 years). There is something so moving about the music of Chrono Trigger/Cross. I'll be honest, I never played Trigger as a kid (I did with Cross tho, and I always let the whole intro play every time), so I'm not quite sure if its just tingling my nostalgia or not. No... its the leitmotifs, the rises and falls, how the composition resolves at the end, it all seems to twang a deep deep DEEP cord in my soul. It chokes me up every time, even now trying to explain it. It's like the music echoes the epic-ness of the story behind it, it seems to marry the hauntingly vast emptiness of eternity with the staggeringly beautiful importance of BEING, of cherishing the moments within the flow of this phenomenon we call time, for this brief hyphen of consciousness we experience between the maternity ward and the grave.

@@HighFalutinTootin I should clarify, I did not have the childhood nostalgia tingles for Chrono Trigger because I didn't play it as a kid, but I did play it as an adult. Many times. Huge JRPG fan here. But I did play Cross, only once all the way through, and that was steeped in enough time (ironically enough) that it earned those tingles.

My entire childhood right here - playing on a rainy Friday morning, classes suspended, my two younger brothers glued to the old CRT as much as I am - the scent of fabric softener wafting in the living room as the clothes were hung in a makeshift clothesline in the garage. Who knew that moment would be all but fleeting. Now I heard this again, a tear on my face, as I fondly remember the days that went by playing the game, having Serge explore that world and all the colorful characters we had recruited together.

The 20th Anniversary Live Tour performance clearly has it at 4th-5th second: kzbin.info/www/bejne/ipbIk6yggqyjl6M I don't know how to describe it, but looks like the artist intentionally touched the instrument to create that sound.

why does this song bring me to tears every time i hear it? because we cannot escape our fate. Hopelessness, and yet within that hopelessness lies the potential for all creation.

I think the orchestration is meant to be that Japanese flute shiamasen I think is the name, but there are two similar sounding Japanese instruments whose names I confuse because the names are very similar.

@@SamanthaIreneYTube you're thinking of a shakuhachi. The shamisen is the japanese stringed instrument similar to a banjo
