You have to be careful when volunteering for foreign armed conflicts, alot of men who volunteered to help the Kurds in the middle east (yanno, the one with the women fighters which all of our medias praised) got arrested or at the least detained when they got back home. Most of the British volunteers were arrested and sentenced, if any of them tried to go through Turkey (shithole country) they were arrested and sentenced. I imagine if you make your intentions publicly known you'll get no-fly'd on airliners and harassed by your government and law enforcement, never mind the risk you'd place on yourself when you enter Ukraine especially if you don't take your sim card or something out right away.

Russians don't collect their dead, because 1) they don't want to spend resources on this and want to burden ukrainians. 2) If soldier is reported missing, the government doesn't need to pay 7 000 000 rubles of compensation. 3) Each real body and funeral gives a clue to how big casualties are. The state doesn't want people to know this. Because it paints a very bleak picture of russian success in Ukraine and shows that ukrainians are not at all inferior to russians as russian propaganda made people to believe for many years. And, frankly, russians as imperial nation always looked at all other nations of their empire as inferior, a "little brothers", although some of them are older and has own developed culture and comparable historical background. 4) Russian state loves to say that "русские своих не бросают" - russians don't leave behind, don't forget their own people, but in practice they almost always do. In critical situations and every day. They have no respect or concern of their fellow man and citizens. The concept of citizen and it's rights itself is pretty alien for them. Their rights begin to matter only when masses get very angry, which is a rare thing, russians have infinite patience and learned helplesness, because the state teached them to obey for a very long time.

Westerners and NATO, the inory of accusing Russia. While stepping on the Iraqi's corpse. UN unauthorised invasion by America and NATO puppets months after when oil companies in Iraq and the government wanted to sell oils not by USD, only with Euro. Man, on 1st day they killed 66,081 innocent civilians that includes children and women. According to their own culture, the Iraqi citizen was literally living in peace just like Saudi. But, when Iraq government stopped using 'petrodollar' you what happened. They brought freedom and democracy to that country with destroyed civilian infrastructure. Intially, 66,081 innocent civilians. By the way, the 'weapon of mass destruction' no even found which was then main (fake) reason to invade Iraq. Similarly Gaddafi, stopped using Petrodollar got killed by NATO. By, same dictatorship and socialist ideas are prevail in Saudi,UAE. why the West is not attacking Saudi? As long as you're with America and you use the petrodollar currency you're okay to do war crimes. Hypocrites westerners lol.

@Verbal DK Just for context; Russians often talk about how they ate the dogs, in the intercepted calls, instead of their shitty military rations. Like, they seem to talk about it a lot. There are also instances where remains of skinned dogs are found after Russian retreats, so it's likely true. In that context, feeding the dogs is not something a dog can automatically expect from the Russians. ^^

I commend the Ukrainian people for their willingness to try and their heart to care about trying to get the bodies back into Russia to their families. Given the experience, the war, I would not be doing this, that. It shows that they have a heart that goes beyond their call of duty. All the more reason, it'll make a person want to pummel the enemy for trying to hurt these people and mess their land. That said, it is nice that it shows the enemy an extension of humanity, of love, in that way. It also has an notion of 'leaving the dead bury the dead' yet it is a war zone and they have done so much, worked so tirelessly. They deserve to win. Highest of hopes.

It's both heartbreaking and beautiful to see the strength of these people in peril. Russia should give up because the Ukrainian people never will, and I respect them all. Thank you Ben Solomon for joining them to share their stories to show the world. I'm so glad you made it out unscathed. As a history lover and avid reader I would at times close my eyes an imagine what it would be like during times of war, etc. Today it's very scary to think we could be on the brink of a 3rd world war in the works. My son is a US Marine too ready and willing to stand up to the evils that threaten our world, so it's a fear I pray we never have to face. My prayers are with Ukraine, those there defending, families that had to leave, separated by war with no home anymore, and the mercenary defenders that volunteer to defend, and you.
