Great Wealth is the only thing that matters to these people. That clown is likely already a millionaire, but won't be happy until he has more, more, more. He'll end up building a mansion from doing the very little labor of speculating. OR. He'll go broke from speculating. Something tells me he's probably into NFTs and crypto as well. @@Melsharpe95 I am playing the devil's advocate here, but consider he has the viewpoint of believing the inflated value to be actual: Would he not edit it down to the words that he think are most relevant to his argument, seeing integral parts as irrelevant? This would make sense considering how consistently he seems to miss Karl's points, he could simply have poor judgment/reasoning. Again, that is devil's advocacy, but being manipulative doesn't make him smart either and he may genuinely believe in some of his points even if he is intentionally lying and/or defaming Karl.
@Melsharpe95

@@magikarpusedsplash8881 When you edit a person's comment in such a way as to say the exact opposite of what they said- that's not accidental. It even goes beyond cherry picking. It's misrepresentation. You're probably right in that he's not a critical thinker in the proper sense. After all it looks like his videos usually get around 500 views so I think he was just making a hot-take reaction video. Unfortunately he couldn't find evidence to support his position so decided to "create" some that did. It's also unfortunate because the guy just seems like some random channel just posting about what they like and has now drawn all this negative attention.

I’ve been a collector for 20+ years at this point (just turned 35) and what always made collecting fun was the awesome amount of games you could get for affordable prices, especially compared to buying them new upon release. If games plummeted in value, the likelihood of my business continuing with games as the focus (profit wise) would definitely shift. I’d start pushing stuff with greater margins. But man would I be happy for myself & gamers alike. I could get cheap games for myself again without having to buy big ass lots, pick out what I want, and then take months to flip the rest.

When he says "real" collectors, he means speculative investors. The actual real collectors saw one of the best selling, common games of all time sell for millions and thought, "That doesn't seem right". But Karl went and dove into this head first, did a bunch of frankly excellent research, and published it. Then immediately, people were trying to discredit and cancel him. This was an important piece of reporting, and the backlash only reinforces that. Nobody likes to be left holding the bag, but that is a risk you should be prepared for when speculating on any type of volatile market.

I don't care about rising and falling prices so I can sell them later, I care about that so I am able know if I am getting a good deal. I think that buying super common games for more than 3 times their original retail price is ridiculous. I buy games that came with a case with it because I wasn't the game to be protected so I can play it. I am a collector that wouldn't be opposed to selling games i no longer want. That is collecting. Cause the lies he tells are embarrassing considering how easily they can be debunked. Like, he completely missed the point behind why marketing your own product without disclosing your relationship to the company (if you have one) is unethical and illegal when there are FTC laws that clearly state why. Plus, he seems to misinterpret a lot of things that Karl says and doesn't even understand what the video is about. He thinks Karl is attacking the entire graded video game industry, community and collectors when his video mainly focuses on two companies and their unethical and manipulative business practices. I really don't know how he managed to overlook this. Perhaps he's just not very intelligent.

@@nissan_skylineI’m pretty sure he’s lying because those things you pointed out. I’m 26mins through Karl’s video and I haven’t heard that man discuss or refute one actual point that Karl made. He’s barely discussing the same topic, instead he goes on attacking his straw man and making implications about Karl. I don’t want to believe that a man that can speak so well and seems to be at least moderately successful, could watch Karl’s video and so clearly miss the point. Maybe I can chalk it up to him being so close to the situation and emotionally invested that he subconsciously blocked out the point of the video because it would make him feel like his was played for a fool if he was/is a regular patron of Wata and Heritage. But even then, I would expect him to defend those companies directly if that were the case and he hasn’t referenced them or their owners yet. Not only the strawmen, but also these useless red herrings like mentioned by you, Joe. This narrow and strange concentration about the form/presentation (the music/tone) and not the content (the actual points, Karl made) can only arise from the mind of a child. If a stutterer reports that your car is burning ... you get out ... fast! This guy instead wants to discuss stuttering. Investable assets are a real thing. The issue with Crypto and NFT is the market is full of scammers and grifters. Jewelry, watches and things of that nature are Investable assets and are more akin to the video games in this instance. A rare physical item that more people want to own than their are copies available. This guy gives off major scammer vibes, but not because he called it an Investable asset. That's a legitimate term.

For me a collector is easy to identify. They go "Check out this! How cool is this?!" then ramble for the next hour about the history of the item. What they don't do is brag about the future value of a collectible and how much they bought it for because at that point it's not the item they care about but just the value it has or could potentially have which is no different from just throwing actual money on a table and talking about how they are investing it.

There pretty much are collectors who care about the item and investors who only care about the value of the item but somehow the investors think they are just normal collectors and that it's different from NFTs, Crypto Currency and stuff like that. Don't get me wrong, collectors can also care about the value of something they collect but if you _only_ care about making money from it you're not a collector, you're an investor.

I always feel there is a massive divide between 'collectors', and 'investors', and this video is a great show of that. Personally, while I don't consider myself a collector, I have a wall of my absolute favourite video games beside my TV. A good 50 or so PS2 games, a good amount of Sega and Atari games. I buy for personal use, popping an old copy of Sonic or something to that effect into a console for a few hours of playing a game I view fondly. I could never consider selling these things, only expand my collection of things I have fond memories of or always wanted when I was at that age. While I personally have never had a game graded, I have bought one graded game in the past. It is a copy of Pokemon Silver, which is the very first video game that I had 100% ownership of myself, being the youngest of 4 kids who all shared family consoles. I have it as a 'prestige' item. It is not a high grade, just a 7.2. But to me it is more about having this piece of my childhood on display rather than having an expensive item which I can sell for a million dollars down the line. This is never going to be my intent. This person in this video only really speaks of collectors as people with intent to sell, seeking a return on some investment on a thing. Nothing is wrong with that, of course, but he does seem to paint people like myself in a bad light.

Scammers over the phone do this, too. If you're smart enough to see through their obvious lies? Dropped like a rock. They'll never call you again with the intent to scam, only to harass and annoy if you were an especially egregious example. I called my scammer a "benchode bosedeke" and he immediately hung up. I received calls for like two weeks. Presumably his boss told him to knock it off and call people they can actually scam, I dunno why he stopped. It filters out people who are going to waste the scammer's time. That way, they're only interacting with stupid people, and you know what they say about parting a fool from his money...

This has extended so far that I now have answers to long-standing economics questions and no degree in economics, but can show that if I'm wrong then supply and demand theory must also be wrong and, in one case, that basic mathematics and the laws of physics must be wrong. People get kind of frustrated when they realize their position relies on the first law of thermodynamics to be incorrect, and placing someone in a position where it's clear they could only be right if adding two non-zero real numbers A and B resulted in a sum of exactly A is essentially the atomic wedgie of debate. My favorite part was when he attacked Pat's credibility and even cited him as Karl's "source" in quotation marks in his clip of Pat's where he takes what he said about Super Mario Bros 3 out of context, but then literally right afterwards he uses Pat as a credible source when he stated his positive opinion on WATA games compared to VGA.
