My neighbor here in Germany also studies English. She grew up in the Netherlands and then married a German engineer. They once lived in Saudi Arabia for 10 years during the 80s so she already speaks Arabic. She is 78 and has decided to not be a boring old lady. She wants to travel and studies English to be able to communicate while traveling. She also does belly dancing, sings in a gospel choir and volunteers in a sanctuary for hedgehogs 🦔

@@BabyBugBug me too. I love if old people can enjoy their time and don’t get grouchy but stay happy and interested. Also I love that many universities here in Germany offer university programs for the elderly. They pay 150€ for one semester and then can attend a huge variety of classes: medicine, pharmacy, law, economics, music, psychology, theology, archaeology, maths, etc. these classes are specially organised for them as they don’t need to get a degree, it’s because it’s interesting. They have attendance, hand in assignments, give presentations but I don’t think they have exams or very long academic research papers. Everyone can attend, no matter what your career was, or if you ever even graduated. Many of the elderly students are so cute. They start behaving again like young students. Giggling in the hallway and complaining about homework. I just love it. I think especially many elderly ladies who were expected to be housewives, finally have a chance to study at a university
