Thank you so much for this. F-Type has been my dream car since 2014 and I'm hoping to buy one in the next year or two. Here's some notes I've taken over the years. - Water ingress causes engine to seize - New Hood design with vents further apart - Y-Pipe burst from being plastic. - Upgrade to Aluminum Y-Pipe - Battery not being charged causes many issues - Charge battery - Non tightened gas cap can cause issues to flag. - Check 3/4 window panel trim. Trim can peel.

Thank you for such a thorough walk through on a used car purchase, especially for the F-Type. As an ex-Brit living in Southern California I am looking to buy a 1-2 year old convertible V-8. Many of the used Jags in the US are the other side of the country from where I am so shopping and viewing the right car can be quite challenging. Your video was excellent resource for someone in the market.

Very comprehensive! Great video, best I've seen. I had an early 2013 V6S with around 48k miles and experienced issues with various coolant pipes, water pump, supercharger coupler, squeaky (but not seized) exhaust valves and two O2 sensors plus many other issues. On the other hand, my 2021 P450 has been much better so far, just one O2 sensor.

@ViezuTechnologies2 ай бұрын
Its a good question, the water pump has been changed we think around 2017, and the Y pipe has been updated around 2020. We do see less water pumps fail now, and I think they may well have sorted the Y Pipe issue, but it may be a bit early to tell, as these pipes tend to fail at around 5 years - all being well it will be ok now. Hi Joe, really don't want to put you off, as I say in the video in general these cars are very strong, I have had 3 with no issues, but my cars were quite new, and like any car, with more time and mileage, sooner or later some things can start to go wrong. Good care, service and maintenance will always help too of course, and catching issues early can be the key sometimes to avoiding a larger repair bill. Keep loving the car!

@@ViezuTechnologies if you could expand a bit on why the Jag doesn’t “sleep” once an OBD-2 device is removed from the car, necessitating a battery reset/disconnect.
@ViezuTechnologies2 ай бұрын
It seems that when any device other than Jaguar's own diagnostic tools are plugged in to the OBD port it can create a situation where the ECU still continues to run a routine after the device has been disconnected which prevents the cars systems properly going to sleep when the car is locked and putting a slow drain on the battery. The way to tell is after the car is locked the little LED's next to the interior door lock switches and the hazard warning symbol on the dash remain lit. I believe the fix is as simple as the battery needs to be disconnected for a couple of minutes, and then when reconnected it seems to have reverted to the correct status.

Congrats for the video! I am writing to you from Italy and I am a Jaguar enthusiast. It would have been useful to me before purchasing my 2014 F Type S 3.0 V6 with 130,000 km. I noticed several things you described: oil leak from the rear differential and blocked exhaust valves certainly. What happens when cold is that as long as it stays at 1500 rpm it is noisy, then after the first minute the noises go away. I would have to do a test with a younger, lower mileage F Type to understand the differences. Unfortunately the steering wheel buttons don't work, which is why I don't see the oil level and water temperature. When I turn off the car, I hear a small noise, not three as you described. In short, a bit of work to do.

Thank you for a very enjoyable and informative tutorial Paul, With regard to the fault codes you mentioned that some OBD readers can leave an ECU powered up which would quickly drain the battery. Obviously, I wouldn't want to leave anyone's car in that condition, so can you please recommend a reliable fault code reader that would avoid this? As you say, a fault code reader is pretty essential these days anyway for modern cars, so any recommendations would be welcome. Thanks again for a great video.

Amazing video, i would like to get a 2016 model with a few miles on it so i can afford it, love the car but have been nervous about the issues reputation , i could just get a Merc C63S for similar price and prob have less issues but they lack the appeal the Jag has for me. Wondering with the boot issues you mentioned with water leaks, wondering if one can install a cost effective solution maybe installed above the tray that protects the electrics, perhaps some sort of sheeting/lining that will hold or divert the water?
@ViezuTechnologiesАй бұрын
The water leak in the book is not that common, but we have seen it a few times, we would suggest possibly some of those water absorbing silicone bags you get in packaging and always check after you wash the vehicle or if you have particularly heavy rain.

Hi Paul, thank you for this! As an owner of three of them, I want to ask you this: which front grille is your favorite design? Asking as I can't decide which route to go (horizontal like yours from this video is one of my top choices) I have a red MY17 Type R, with the classic two fins on each side and a crossbar in the middle I am dying to remove (proj 7 style)

Yes this car came with horizontal bars on the side grilles, i have had them carbon fibre look dipped, my first F-type can with the shark grilles but i swapped for a full project 7 bumper, with the full open grills, ( i cant attached a picture here sadly) I still think that is my favourite

Had a failed injector on #4 which then was stuck/corroded in place. JLR UK service centres have a significant wait before even getting it looked at. Mine required a specialist to remove it and it cost over £2k to fix.

The rust issues you mentioned, i am in Australia, mainly a hot climate and bit of rain over winter , i feel UK/Europe are more susceptible to the rust issues due to snow and salting the roads. I also heard the vents on the bonnet take in water which can rust the engine parts?
@ViezuTechnologiesАй бұрын
Hi there, you are right in regards to the bonnet vents! This is a known fault in the early pre face lift models and our advice would be to not remove your engine cover to minimise this damage.
@stephenspiceley3082Ай бұрын
Hi Paul, a related question on Jaguar service history, in particular for the XKR 5.0. I am looking at an early 2015 example, one owner, 28k mile car that seems excellent in every way, except the service history. Its been serviced by Jaguar 4 times in its 10 year life, but the owner has skipped some years because I assume they think its okay due the fact the annual mileage was very low (typical 3k miles in later years). One notible hole is in its 2nd and 3rd year during which it had covered 12,000 miles between services (6k - 18k) without being serviced for those two years. The second hole is from 2021 until present where its covered a further 4k miles. Do you think this could be an issue given Jaguar stipulate an annual service? Many thanks
@ViezuTechnologiesАй бұрын
its a really good question, has it done the car any damage, probably not, there are no timing belts to worry about, has the oil degraded with age, may be. I think I would get it thoroughly inspected though. It really is quite gappy! and that will affect the resale value, you will want to get a full service as soon as you can, and make sure things like tyres are in date, the fuel filter has been changes etc, all the things that may have been missed. And you need discuss the price, this will affect the price and it will when you come to sell it too - it will put a lot of people off. These cars don't sit around unused well, they do need to be driven, so do go over it thoroughly. The low mileage sounds great - but can be a double edged sword.
@stephenspiceley3082Ай бұрын
@@ViezuTechnologies Paul, thank you for getting back to me, and my apologies for the slow acknowledgement. @ViezuTechnologies2 ай бұрын
Hi Paul, as I say in the video, I have had 3 F-Types myself and never had an issue, I think you have to accept though, if you buy what was a £100k car and buy it 12 years later for much much less, there can be issues starting to creep in with time and mileage, generally I would still have to say the Jaguar is very reliable. And while the water leaks can be an issue on the engine, the engine its self is pretty much bullet proof mechanically - hope that helps viezu.com/
@dlj12852 ай бұрын
Ridiculous. Guess you missed the part where he said the engines are reliable, there’s a few things around the engine to keep an eye on. Lots of cars these days have plastic piping around the engine. 2020 and onward have revised piping that is less of a concern because there is no seam in the pipe, and then there is the option of replacing the piping with metal. None of this is a big deal. Most cars worth owning have some warts and known issues. The latest f-types have less issues than what he is talking about here. For example, the water ingress issue into the hood corroding the injectors. Doesn’t happen on the redesigned car. There are no massive problems with these cars. Your loss. Great cars.
