On what would have been assassinated Congolese leader Patrice Lumumba’s 99th birthday, we speak with author and analyst Vijay Prashad, who has just published a lengthy article on Lumumba and the Democratic Republic of the Congo’s ongoing struggle for control over its own resources. Sunday marked the 64th anniversary of Lumumba’s historic speech marking his country’s independence from Belgium, in which he delivered a blistering critique of colonialism. Lumumba’s rise to become the first elected prime minister of Congo came after decades of brutal violence under Belgian rule and the extraction of vast wealth in rubber, ivory and other commodities from the country. Lumumba was assassinated soon after taking office in a plot involving the CIA and Belgium, leading to decades of dictatorship under Mobutu Sese Seko, wars, poverty and resource exploitation that continues to ravage the country to this day. “The issue of control over resources is fundamental,” says Prashad, director of the Tricontinental: Institute for Social Research. “The Congolese have never been able to put forward a national project around how to unite the people. … This has always been suborned by external intervention.”

Death and Slavery for resource extraction and yet the resources are put into products meant not to last. TWO people drive to work ( on rubber tires - > 0:21 ) per family, ever since a certain President told us that helping the wealthy would help us all. Mass Transit? "We have no money for that" and yet those same politicians never hesitate to put the country into increased debt with unlimited spending on weapons. Trinkets, advertising, products that purposely don't last very long, it is a shameful result after such a high cost to human life and the environment.

Get this channel protects its liberal California Billion heir Base and their friends like George, Sorotic, and Gates who are buying up large amounts of land for which can be mined but should be used as open space or for farming. No mention of people like musk who are going after the minerals to topple places like Bolivia and places wherever the world has money making minerals. These guys cry the tears but really they're just trying to persuade their viewers the same way meat is preferred by dogs but they toss us bones. Criminal murder of heads of state, and yet we here in the "West" lecture the world about democracy and "Rule" of law? We are a complete joke here in the west. We are drunk narcissists. Remembering Patrice Lumumba on the day of his birth! Thank you Vijay for your work which dispels western engineered myths about the Congo, Africa and Africans, the criminally depraved, dysfunctional dynamic in which Africa is bound to western economies to their detriment. The continued colonization under different guises by the West's policy of underdevelopment and destabilization for their benefit at the physical, material and intellectual cost of the Congolese and Africans. May journalists, researchers, activists and others from around the world unlearn these myths to discover and configure the missing puzzle pieces for a cohesive Peace, in understanding why and how to overcome the ultra racist, hyper capitalist hegemony to achieve authentic DECOLONIZATION. When Africa is liberated the hegemonic machine cannot sustain itself. And importantly to achieve reprieve from centuries of plunder by the usual psychopathic suspects in order for Africans to inherit their wealth for the benefit of their people and cohesive equanimity for the rest of the world.

@@taq1238 Why would the Western educational system teach about the colonial explotation of the african continent? Promoting Social Justice: Education about colonialism is essential to address historical wrongs and promote social justice. It encourages discussions about reparations, decolonization, and human rights. Teaching about neocolonial exploitation is essential for fostering an informed, empathetic, and critically engaged citizenry capable of understanding and addressing the depravity of neocolonialism in the present day. We need to promote empathy and a deeper understanding of the ongoing suffering faced by people in formerly colonized countries.
@taq1238
@taq1238 Ай бұрын
@@augusto3113 I'm assuming you are an American. Teaching Critical Race Theory is already an issue. The subject of colonialism or neo-colonialism would be another hot button issue. For years the US has obscured the fact that Puerto Rico and Hawaii, to name a few, are to this day US colonies so they have no interest in giving you the tools to figure this out. The US education system is in the business of indoctrination, not in developing a nation of informed critical thinkers. This is why so many Americans do not develop an interest in the history and culture of others and very rarely will pick up a book to supplement the sub-par education received. It is my hope that more people will understand why the ideology of Pan-Africanism is important and why there is a concerted effort in the US to promote xenophobia among Black Americans.

I really don’t know how to approach this subject as despite descending from family who are from the region once considered the greater Congo Empire which is including Angola and the two Congos and the Central African Republic, I can only begin my critique by acknowledging that I am complicit as I use one technology that requires lithium cobalt batteries, I affiliate myself with a sustainable and green revolution of the west because of its potentials to uplift many out of poverty and diversify economies so radically that we create thousands upon thousands of new jobs and industries but all the whilst knowing that industrialisation is what brought polite, destruction and fragmentation to many people and families from Congo including my own The familial trauma and scars that were left behind from generations of war, disease, destruction and cultural erasure ripple through my lineage and have affected me, I can have an historiographical approached understanding these things but the lived experience of a broken family and how it has affected my prospect and this world is in escapable and philosophising and intellectualisation can only go so far. From the event of the motorised vehicle and bicycles which depended on the rubber to the gold diamonds and plethora of other mining derived resources that the country and surrounding countries offer the global economy. Politics are so intensely fraught in Africa and in particular this region just because of how much people have plotted and instigated around these resources to shape local and global politics, that I don’t really see how this will end beyond challenging the centres of demand in both the east and west Rile megapowers of international trade and commerce.. Namely China and the USA, I don’t mean to be sensation honest when I say that slavery hasn’t really ended, the way which we employ the mechanisms of slavery suddenly have changed and therefore might provide someone with a sense of it having ended but that’s only because it’s not obvious anymore and that forcing a 17-year-old to go into a mind to dig by way of the locally economy being practically non-existent and the prospects of a job that caters to his desires to better himself and pursue his own authentic story simply not provided for a lot of people have to live life never really exploring themselves and their authenticity, but instead of moving by way of the pressures that economy place on them in order to survive Then you have people on the far right claiming that African should go back to where they belong and the only qualified workers could enter their countries get the stabilisation that was caused by their presence hundreds of years ago still remains through continued presents and domination in the so-called developing world, extracting minerals and resources For their own economic growth, placing puppet politicians and positions of power and influence and never really allowing for a population to overcome and work on a balanced/equal footing with their counterparts. It’s just a terrible mess a shameful dreadfulness 😊

The only thing the West left of Patrice Lumumba was a tooth! 1 tooth, nothing more! And even that tooth was kept from his family members to be buried until a few years ago and the only thing Belgium did after a massive pressure campaign during the height of BLM was promiss the payed repatriation of that tooth and an official apology to Congo and its neighbours; Malawi, Burundi, Congo-Kinshasa and Rwanda parts or the whole of those countries were part of the Belgian Congo at the time. Their rightful reaction was to shrug their shoulders and say: "Actions speak louder than words and reperations and repatriation of stolen goods and art are needed before foregiveness is given." I have no love for royalist like those who simp for the house of orange in my country that to this day racistically claim we went there to bring; democracy, culture and civilization. This is a type of unconventional warfare being fought against us. It can only be carried out with artificial electromagnetic radiation such as microwave radiation. If we switch off the supply of microwave radiation and 5G radiation, the radiation which comes from smart street lighting and the radiation which comes from low orbiting satellites, the enemy will have no electromagnetic radiation power to torture us with. Please share this information with all military technologists in your location in order to protect yourself from remotely generated torture, remotely generated enslavement and remotely generated death. All we have to do in order to defeat the enemy is to switch off the power to the microwave transmitters, the 5G transmitters, the smart street lights and the low orbiting satellites.
