In season one Bjorn is 12, this was mentioned by Ragnar. Lets say two years passed during season 1 making Bjorn 14 when he left with Lagertha, after 4 years I could totally see an 18 year old Bjorn looking like this. The guy who Horik killed was counting their men, it was actually pretty smart of Horik to get rid of him.

The funny thing is I just looked it up and that actor would have actually been 14 years old at the time of Vikings season 1. I dont understand why everyone thinks he was so young. I havent seen Bjorns age confirmed anywhere but if the actor playing him was 14 I think it is safe to assume the character was around that age.

Drew Q)! It was said in episode 1 that Bjorn was 12 at the time. Because Ragnar said "He is already 12 years old" when telling Lagertha Bjorn is old enough to get his arm ring. That was ep 1 and the events of season probably took place over a year maybe slightly more. So Bjorn would have been at least 13 when he left Kattegat. 4 years later he is a 6 foot 17 year old. It happens irl so why not here?

Maybe, but it still seems strange. Maybe it's the new actor who also does not seem to be just 18 but rather over 22 and seems almost nothing from the other actor. Either way, if he does his job well, it does not matter much.

I was skeptical of the new Bjorn actor at first also but if you look at it like kid bjorn was small for his age and then hit puberty hard, especially since most men got to be 6ft or taller. Plus grown bjorn is a badass

Waited so long for this! Grown-Up Bjorn becomes my fave character he's brilliant. Alexander Ludwig grows into the role amazingly and moulds Ragnar mannerisms into his performance so well. I love the shot of Ragnar not caring about gold and you see his fascination with grain. That is the essence of his character. Can't wait for you to see 2x4!!!

I know its too late since your on S5 but Bjorn was around 13-14 when he left with mom.. because he was the older brother of Geeta and she was 12yrs old when she died so Bjorn is 17-18 in this scene though might be 19 depending on when his Bday was when he left with mom

Answering Hannah question about England: For a lot of time, England was technically divided in 7 kingdoms (Essex, Sussex, Wessex, Northumbria, Kent, Mercia, i can't remember the last one); but there was almost always one kingdom who was stronger that the rest and kept some of them as "tributaries" or vassals (i remember that at one time the king of Kent was so strong that he almost kept together all of England; but then he died and the kingdoms split again, then i think Mercia became the big one and try the same but his king died and the cicle went on and on for decades). At the shows period of time, there are basically 3 big kingdoms (Wessex, Northumbria and Mercia) who keep the other kingdoms under their realm; being Wessex the strongest of them.

REWATCH: Did really like this episode, there was a LOT of stuff that happened in it. Thorbjørn Harr as Jarl Borg totally looked the part, wonderful casting. The old warrior that told Rollo to save himself for another day and remember his first responsibility (wife and songs of his brother) was a great little slice of things, a nice small part that you'd remember later.
