apparently, there was a viking named "Eric the Baby-Lover" because he refused to spear babies when invading town. The other vikings seems to make fun of this. So...yeah, they were cruel and intimidating.

That guy was estimating the size of their camp, memorizing their defenses, etc. He wasn't very subtle about it, so King Horik noticed it and killed him.

They could make estimations but they wouldn't know their real strength, and yes it is important to have the most exact numbers possible (the last few episodes of the first season of Game of Thrones demonstrate why perfectly). That's why that guy was counting their numbers in the first place, that's why armies have scouts.

Trained scouts do a better job than most, they purposely look out for certain things, spend a long time watching the enemy and normally have a lot of experience. If that scout had lived he would've given a more exact estimation, those other guys who weren't scouting would only give rough estimations.

The last season of Got describe military thinking like shit. Dany has the Unsullied, the Dothraki and all of Dornes bannermen in Dorne, plus her fleet and a powerful ally with the armies of the Reach. What does Dany do? Instead of having a meeting in safe Sunspear, far away from the enemy, she invites her allies to Dragonstone, spitting distance from Kings Landing. They then split their forces instead of moving up into the Reach and link all their forces which would have made them unstoppable. Tyrion Lannister and Dany are utter shit at strategy

A pitched battle would be one which was agreed upon mutually by both sides who'd be willing to fight rather than an ambush like they do here and in some of their previous little campaigns. Pitched battles would be bad in potentially facing a lot of the enemy's strength who'd be prepared and would mean casualties would be higher for the vikings.

Another raid, in the name of Odin! Bjorn has grown well :) Too bad that Lagertha hs to humiliate herself in order to keep them safe... Her husband is the earl after all. I guess all the other earls already had wives of they probably didn't want to take Bjorn as well. Shame, because Sigvard is a drunk old man now :\ Notice how Ragnar the great doesn't care about the treasure: He is interstate in the grain, and in what a farming colonization can do for his people and race. Jarl Borg made a move... Good that Rollo the traitor (Still hated him at that point), was there. If not for him... The Ragnarsson would've been murdered and Aslaug would get it even worse I'm afraid.

The guy playing Bjorn now is Alexander Ludwig. He is not the same person that played the young Bjorn in the 1st season. They look a CRAPLOAD alike. It fooled me, too, when I watched it the 1st time. The young S1 Bjorn was Nathan O'Toole.
