Bjorn should be 18 years old here. When he got that armring with Earl Haroldson he was 12. Then there were some time jumps. When they went to that temple in Uppsala where Athelstan was supposed to be sacrificed he was 13. Then Ragnar got Aslaug pregnant and she came to visit the baby daddy 6-8 months pregnant. So Bjorn was 14 years old by then and then left with Lagertha. 4 Years later, That would make him 18 Years old now. During those 4 years he was training for the hunger games.

A little FYI about the viking age, it was during the middle of a little ice age. That made it really hard for the Norse to farm in Scandinavia, and that was one of the reasons they set out to colonize new lands

they waited to use the bows because the ships offer significant protection against them and makes it easy to create a shield wall to take cover behind. by waiting, they make the enemy think they dont have archers, and thus the enemy will not advance behind the safety off shields, but rather in a over committed charge which will leave them vulnerable

No actually hunting with bows was widespread during the viking age in scandinavia, Bows for widespread hunting spear for boars, so there were alot of bows in circulation however bows was only good in battle if you could assemble like a 100 bowmen at one spot. most arrows would miss this was before the longbow era.

I was very much looking forward to seeing you ladies react to the older Bjorn and you did not disappoint. The first time I saw it I thought it was the same actor and that he'd just gotten huge (for about 10 minutes). Alexander Ludwig is the same height as Clive Standen (Rollo), both 6'2".

They have land the tribes even raid and go to war with each other over it. Example jarl borg and king horik. It was just a period of rapid development in naval tech/activity allowing them to travel longer distances and do the exact same thing to other settlements/countries.

A bow is difficult to shoot especially a primitive one so I'd say they portrayed the archer defense pretty accurately

If you had a couple of bowmen they were only good for a few yards away so shooting arrows on ships coming in would be like tossing away expensive arrows. That shit only happen in american movies were you rain arrows on armies. This is a small unit battle with a few improvised armed villages.

Vikings would mostly fight each other over fertile farming land, because good soil is priceless to them. Ragnar sees how fertile England is and sees that there would be no need to fight inwards if all they had to do was establish Viking land in other places in England. Creating farms and communities would help them firmly establish themselves in England.

Something I like about the show is that it isn't black and white morality like we see in so many Hollywood movies. They make no attempt to show the Vikings as only the good guys, not showing some of the terrible stuff they did. The same goes for the Christians later in the show. The way they write their characters also is more complex since all the characters isn't morally black or white. Kinda like they wrote the characters in movies like "Trainspotting" and "Wolf of Wall Street". Would highly recommend checking out the YT channel "History buffs" video on Vikings :)

13:46 Jarl Borg is an earl in Götaland. The "Gö"-part is pronounced like "Ge" in the word "germ". (Gotland is another part of Sweden, it's an island in the Baltic sea). Earl Sigvard, Lagertha's new husband is earl in Hedeby, which is in Southern Denmark, on the border to Germany. 17:05 Ubbe is about 4, Hvitserk is about 2 and Sigurd is a newborn. Björn was about 13 when Ubbe was born, so he's about 17 now.

Voice of Reason They had humanity. They were a rich culture with quite ahead of the times social structures. The show is written by one historian who is very familiar with Norse history and it is loosely based off of Tale of Ragnar’s sons. Avoid the actual history searching tho if you don’t want spoilers.

This show isn't very accurate, it's more about legends than the actual history. It splices the two. For example, these people actually looked quite different from how they're portrayed in this show.
