To give you an idea of how abysmally arrogant and stupid Utron is. Black Widow is arguably the weakest of all Avengers with the weakest weapon, a 9mm pistol. Ultron didnt even make his bots proof against piddly 9mm bullets. Thor is struggling to deal damage, Vision is struggling to deal damage, Stark is struggling to deal damage, but not Romanov and her top tier weapon. No no. Walmart ammo too. Not even special SHIELD or Stark tech bullets. Just regular old 9x19mm parabellum. This is one of my major issues with this movie. Because if she was that effective, the Sokovian police should have been on par with Romanov, with the Sokovian military and their much larger, much more effective than a 9mm, proper battle rifles should have been offering to render aid and effectively doing so.

My head canon is that this version of Ultron was never an AI. I’m convinced that Tony and Banner didn’t copy computer code but rather released a mind that has been trapped in the Mind Stone for long enough to deteriorate. This explains his immediate self-identification as an entity that should have a body, his fractured mental state and his very organic thought patterns and plans. He’s not copying himself across multiple bodies or into a remote server somewhere disconnected from the internet because he’s still thinking like a person who grew up in a single body.
@DeetotheDubs Жыл бұрын
This is what I went with, too. He didn't come across as calculating enough and too emotionally-driven to be an AI. It made more sense that he was either trapped in the stone or it created him when probed/scanned, like some kind of quantum Schrodinger's consciousness.

Well they did say it was a net of neurons within the mindstone, I took a bit of liberty calling it computer code. You might be onto something. But I would counter that by saying that Ultron has all his neuroses wrapped up in earth, humans, Tony and the avengers. It definitely doesn't seem like a straight download of whatever intelligence is inside the mindstone, more a mix of influences, as the movie more or less suggests.

Or maybe during that time he scanned the internet, he reads up on what people think is expected of an AI, and he modeled himself after that. Also you would think a super A.I. would know to test before just thinking all like was bad. It wouldn't surprise me if in its odd super brain of his this was a test for humans to prove to him they deserved life. In the end the avengers proved it and proved he is not needed/wanted. Now that his experiment went a little over board and he is stuck in the body he has it would be funny to see him being in a small town somewhere just stuck not knowing what to do or is too worried if he tries anything he would be found to be alive. I know 100% this is not true at all, but funny to picture (they would never plan something like that so far ahead and such a big twist). @L_Brick_Studios Жыл бұрын
2:37 This actually makes me think the film would have been better if Ultrons motives where to save the world by removing the bad people in order to protect all the good people. But he has a very black and white outlook on what makes someone bad/good since people are capable of change and are often a mix of both to some degree or other, however he is unable to see that. Something that could be reflected later in the film when vison says "there is grace in there failings. I think you missed that". This would also be a great concept to explore with the avengers having a gray outlook on the situation as its clear killing bad people will only lead to destruction & suffering and the creation of more bad people. This conflict of outlooks between Ultron and the Avengers would also be interesting to see when looking at Black Widow and Hulk. The Two people with the most blood of innocent people on there hands and therefore would be prime examples in Ultons eyes as bad people who need to be removed. And you could even look at Captain American as an example who fought in a world war where every side had good and bad people within there ranks. In fact this concept of good of good and bad reflects all the avengers to some degree. And of course this would also reflect in Ultron most of all with him becoming the very evil he wants to eradicate since good people do seek to bring about peace by killing everyone they think is bad and anyone who dose commit to this crusade doesn't stay "good" for very long. I'd actually be very interested to see this explored in a future story someday.

I like to think that Ultron did keep a backup of himself in the one place nobody would ever think to look and that would be protected by his creators sentimentality. It would be absolutely hilarious to have him pop up again hidden in Dum-E and Dum-U. Slowly taking over all of Stark tech while Pepper and Happy are asleep.

IMOHO, the worst part about Ultron (and this applies to the original comics version of him) is that he is about as interesting as any other crazed robot - maybe that was novel back in 1968, but five decades later he's become little more than a parody of himself.

I don't know how low hanging of fruit it is but I'm curious as to if you have a list of villains you think were just smart enough to succeed. Not sure if this was intended, but this video made me love and appreciate Ultron more (and the writing of Age of Ultron). I've always sorta ranked him as my second favorite villain behind Thanos, but this video gave me a layered appreciation of why I liked him. He was born flawed from the start and just kept buzzing about like a fly trapped behind glass. All the arguments he made seemed compelling and obvious to him, his techniques seemed to be the most logical way to bring about humanity's evolution, and his loathing for humanity seemed intuitive. Essentially, he starts with wrong priors, which meant his conclusion was going to be firm but incorrect.

I really wish they built up his character. Like, during the other movies he slowly saw his get more and more mad with the avengers choices, and eventually chose that machines would be the future and started treating humans like animals, having machines keep them inside the houses at all times, and slowly build up a sheild around the world. Just, man idk they could've done so much with him.

I think the only villain that wasn't stupid was Ozymandias (from Watchmen). I did it 35 minutes ago.

Saw one of the commzntq mentioning that ultron should've been made in the previous avengers so that by time in upcoming movies, he realizes of futile the actions of the avengers are. If he grew to be corrupt like that, it would've been a more effective arc. Then they also could've followed the comic book design of him, which is more terrifying than this version and going lose against the entire planet. I could see the mcu building up an actual avengers lvl threat like this inwhich ultron's evil arc movies split into 2 parts just like thanos his has been. We got thanos which was nice but i think this would've been more terrifying since well, humans created their own doom

Ultron does have an excuse for being stupid - _he's phucking insane._ There's a difference between villains who have unworkable plans because they are madmen that didn't think things throu, and villains where _the original concept_ wasn't thought throu. A flawed illogical villain (/evil Empire) can be an interesting well written character, or it can be a case of it doesn't make sense how they got that far due to their existence being illogical.
@peacemaster8117 Жыл бұрын
Exactly right. It's fine for Ultron to do stupid things because he's doing them as a result of his own personality flaws. It's the same with Loki: Loki could've easily won in Avengers if he wasn't so busy showing off, but he's Loki.

You think about it, Ultron's reasoning for wanting humanity gone isn't flawed. It may appear flawed to us b/c we'd put our survival and existence above all else. But a being like Ultron wouldn't value us the way we value ourselves. He correctly reasoned that as long as humans existed there will be conflict. So he was looking for peace he meant REAL peace

Chronologically that post credits scene with Thanos only works as a scene that happens right after Guardians of the Galaxy. Thanos doesnt even know who Ultron is, but he knows Ronan, who failed personally and we know Thanos then went to Xandar to grab the power stone years later right before wrecking Thor and the asgardisns. Certain it wasnt planned but funny how they made a scene that takes place 3 years after the movie its in

I think you forget the big thing about Ultron and his flaws, even when you also say it almost in the same paragraph. He is made up of Tony Starks worst qualities, and therein lies all his weakness. From bad memory, comic Ultron actually follows more your ideas of efficiency: The moment he's actually prepared, he won. He also had "Doom Lost Soul"-like drones, over just more humanoids, and was only bested by time shenanigans. That said, still love the movie version. The fact he's actually quite childish, trying to grapple with concepts he unquestionably grips objectively but lacks the experience or age to grasp outside a concept, the fact you can actually see his motives evolve and devolve as he marches on, and the detail of him constantly trying to be as human as he can be, are all great touches. It's such a shame he's, like so many other MCU villains, basically just a one-off, even if "something isn't beautiful, because it lasts". That final scene with Ultron and Vision is especially great, as it shows, in spite of his ruinous mental state, he deep down does want to do his job.

That's something that's always bugged me with a _lot_ of robot characters in fiction with humanoid forms: They move their mouths despite the fact they've got no vocal cords and their voices are actually coming from some audio device within them. There are some that don't move their mouths, though (C-3P0, Comic Book Ultron, etc.).

Hey Zealot I've got to ask, have you read the comic series that the movie was based off (conveniently named Age of Ultron)? Even if it has your typical comic book fuckery, I'm sure you would enjoy Ultron way more in that iteration as he's a way better villain than in the movies, hell he even gives himself purpose after winning.
