Thank you, but i think the timing might need adjusting and there is a petrol leak on the carb, but not too bad.

You can start and run a side valve (low compression) gasoline engine on kerosine provided the engine is already hot (it will `pink' (detonate) though under load). A Diesel engine is quite different with a much higher compression ratio and fuel injection arranged quite differently to a gasoline engine with fuel injection; the timing on a Diesel is by precise fuel injection timing, there being no spark ignition.
