That was Outstanding! Just getting a glimpse of Arnold in a non-Hollywood setting, back in the Day, was amazing! Obviously, this was some type of skit, put on by two professional actors. However, I imagine the point of the skit was that Vince's Gym was second-rate when compared to, Gold's. It seems that there's a very interesting back story as to Why all this was done. So, please, if possible, give us some of the details of what compelled the making of this short skit and video. In a recent video with Joe Rogan,Arnold credited Vince with teaching him alot. But yes, Vince ran his gym his way or the highway. Even Frank Zane complained that during the filming of Pumping Iron ,he had to train at Vinces and there was no squat rack and he couldnt squat. Its not just the squats...he didnt like bench press,he came up with some convaluted " guillotine " press,which yes I have tried,it kills your shoulders because he says to have the upper arms in line with the bar. Never saw him recommend overhead press,just some side lateral motion. Vince was def. A great trainer,but not having the basics to build your body is just silly.
@chriswylie2537 ай бұрын
Arnold knew Pumping Iron was coming out and ripped Vince's gym to promote Golds as the only bodybuilding Mecca as it's the center of the film. He thought shrewd like that even back then. You can also tell Arnold was working very hard on acting lessons at this point and is trying to impress. Obviously it's a staged bit as a film camera wasn't randomly in a dry cleaners pointing at the door and they even show Butler's film crew getting takes. Arnold is doing all sorts of "reacting honestly", first he makes no eye contact with Cort when he walks in, then asks the store manager "how much" despite the package being bogus, disputes the fake change then picks up something Cort drops. Then takes a huge look at his watch before saying where he's going next(he's going to finish the shoot at Golds with Cort). He is working so hard to be a good actor, and knows Cort(a famous actor at the time) could be a resource for future acting work. This is what everyone describes as to how hard Arnold would focus on his next career moves and plan.

Wow 😮 Remarkable footage . Amazing how many outtakes that scene have. All on different angles and approaches. I wonder if that line was originally part of the 'script' or it was ad libbed / improv by Arnold . That was a serious jab to Vince's Gym 😳😄👊 . . After closer looking at this footage, I finally discovered the address of that location. 8025 Sunset Blvd ! I driven up and down there many times when I was in LA. Hard to believe that was a dry cleaning shop as most of that has changed a bit. However, the parking lot that Arnold is heading towards across the street is completely gone😮 That building next to parking lot is Schwab's Pharmacy. That name has been defunct for decades. That particular location (8024 Sunset Blvd ) closed down in '83 apparently. It's a large shopping complex building with Trader Joe's logo outside and other smaller retail shops, gym, theatre inside.

Hey! Thanks so much for the great details pertaining to the area in which this interesting skit was made...The idea that the Famous Schwab's Pharmacy is gone, saddens me. It seems quite a few soon to be famous actors were discovered at Schwab's, or at least patronized the Pharmacy. Thanks again!

@theironforce30007 ай бұрын
@@georgewilkie3580 You're right, the brief info that I found during the search stated that particular pharmacy during the 20s - '50s was quite the hotspot in the Hollywood scene regarding actors and producers of that era. It may hark back to the old soda pop shops/general mills format before it specifically became only a drugstore as we know them today.

After viewing his scenes with Arnold, Bud Cort felt that the scenes, as much as he liked them..he thought they would slow the pace of the film and overall distracting. He told George Butler, Charles Gaines, and Arnold to cut his scenes and he returned his salary so they could use it to finish the film. Arnold promised him that they would save his footage and put it back into the film so everyone could see them. Some of that footage was included in the 25th anniversary dvd edition of Pumping Iron.

Arnold first came to the US In about 1968, and this footage is probably from 1975. And he basically already mastered English fluently. That’s pretty incredible if you think about it.
