The most accomplished alpha male that perhaps ever lived. Served in the military, became an icon for the hardest sport to compete in, married a Kennedy, became a governor for a state in a country he wasn’t even born in, is the greatest action movie star of all time, is the Terminator, is Conan, speaks multiple languages, inspired MILLIONS to get into bodybuilding and/or fitness and also earned many millions of dollars in doing so. Nobody has a lifetime resume more impressive than Arnold. Nobody!

1:53 truly incredible. At 29 he was saying the same exact things he would say 40+ years later when asked about the secrets to be successful. Usually with older age people become wiser, look back and, in hindsight, finally understand the whole game of life a bit better. Arnold instead already had everything crystal clear in front of him since the age of 15 or so. And he was just a regular boy from an Austrian small town, with no Internet or anything like that. Insane.

I've said it before and I'll say it again....you gotta respect someone like Arnold Schwarzenegger. From a very young age he found what he loved and got that focus, dedication & tunnel vision - that never give up attitude. Most of us just aren't like that with our lives; we just work a 9 to 5. I am envious (in a good way) I wish I had found something and really dedicated myself to it like that when I was young. Sad thing is....when I was 16 I had his book "The Education of a Bodybuilder" and I worked out back then as well...but I didn't stick with it.

A different interviewer asked Arnold the same question this one did about whether bodybuilders are narcissistic for looking at themselves in a mirror when they work out. He gave a slightly different answer here, but the previous one was the best response I’ve ever heard to that question. He noted that in other sports athletes always measure themselves, like in baseball what your batting average is or how many home runs you hit, or in football how many touchdowns a quarterback throws, and so on in all sports. And he noted that no one thinks of that as being narcissistic. He said a bodybuilder is doing the same thing other athletes do when measuring accomplishment, but their body itself is what is being measured against a certain ideal, whereas in other sports the body is just the vehicle to their measured athletic accomplishment.

Fabulous video! Had the great pleasure of seeing in person the 1974 Mr. Olympia. Arnold was at his greatest physical condition. His competition: Franco Columbu, Frank Zane, Lou Ferrigno, Serge Nubret. Arnold was so far superior to everyone else, I was in shock. When he flexed, his muscles jumped out at you, almost like in 3D. No one else had this muscle finish. A night I will never forget.

This may be 1976 or 1977.. The nice thing about that vid is to watch Arnold off the juice (or with minimal maintenance dose) and in same time working out hard with free weights.. T bar and incline bench press. Plus simplifying bodybuilding to normal people and puting the sports on mainstream. Arnold was for bodybuilding the same muhammad ali was for boxing. And many of us today have good bodies or being in good health and shape because of him. What a legend. Thx for the vid.

Watching this brings me back to simpler time when many local gyms were smaller and had fewer members with little or no distractions. In 2023 it’s an entirely different situation. But I’ll never forget the first time I saw his photo on a cold concrete wall in my gym; “Who is Arnold Swchiz…Schwyz …who is this guy?”. Say what you will about Arnie, but he can never be duplicated. Great interview regarding reasons to bodybuild versus the Charles Atlas advertising model. Arnold was truly a progressive business visionary! And he demonstrates the practicality of the training with the mind-muscle connection conveyed in laymen’s understanding. Arnold looked good off the drugs.

Most people think Arnold is not playing with a full deck and part of it is because of his accent but when you listen to him I mean really listen you will find he is very intelligent and he possesses great knowledge when it comes to the human body. He also has a great ability to prioritize his mind set to achieving his goals alot of people possess great ability but lack the mind set to achieve the end results that they desire and end up falling short in everything they do. Truly we all can learn from him, but first one must humble one's self and admit to one's self that you don't know everything.

I always look for old Arnold videos like this. It’s crazy to think that at 29yrs old he’s able to inspire me and I’m only 27 now. He’s the GOAT of bodybuilding.

I still think Arnold is the best built bodybuilder in all of human history. And sorry to say after seeing Arnold, Sylvester and guys like Dolph Lundgren and Jean Claude Van Damme in movies when I was a young teen I began reading mags and lifting weights. I did this because girls told me they loved musclemen so I became one and it still works. To this day women tell me that the minute they saw my muscles they wanted me. Never wanted to compete, just wanted babes and if you're big and well muscled they will flock to you. It also helps to smile a lot and tell them honestly what you want from them. They respect the truth

I'm a big of a fan of Schwarzenegger for decades. People should also understand the dark side of his life. His father would get drunk and beat him. His older brother would also beat him. His dad was a police chief and it was common at that time in that area (little towns in Austria) that people "didn't see" this abuse. In a few interviews, Arnold has talked about this, but very few and only long after his bodybuilding career and long after he was a huge star. The point is, Arnold wanted out of that abusive environment. His mom was supportive, but she didn't stand up to her husband either. So Arnold made himself into a human tank. He built his own suit of armor. No one would abuse him because he was the biggest dude out there. It was (relatively) well-known that Arnold would get drunk and get into fights when he was a young bodybuilder. Arnold got out of his small town (Thal bei Graz) as soon as he could. When Arnold's father and his brother died, Arnold didn't attend their funerals, and he already easily had the money to do so. Arnold used to talk pretty badly about the small-town mentality of Austria. It is true that rural Austria is quite conservative and I'm sure in post-WWII times even more so. Vienna (where I've lived since the mid-90s) is quite cosmopolitan, but back in the 90s it was much "sleepier" than today. Austrians weren't happy about Arnold's attitude towards them. People here in Austria were also pretty hurt that until the mid-2000s Arnold had mostly ignored his birth country after emigrated to the US. Once his dad and brother were dead and he was a politician in the US he started talking about Austria in a positive way and visiting regularly. He even bought property here and now regularly visits. That is today, 2023. about 55 years after he left, and 60 years after he started breaking into the local gym to lift weights to escape the beatings at home. Arnold is clever, good looking, VERY shrewd, and blessed with 1:1,000,000 genetics and amazing willpower. But it was the abusive, drinking father and abusive brother that gave him the burning need to get huge and prove himself impervious. To become really successful from humble beginnings like Arnold did you need the luck he has genetically. You also need the right character flaws. Those same character flaws that helped Arnold succeed are also why he is divorced and estranged from most of his children. The "I can do anything" led to fucking his housekeeper and then keeping his bastard son a secret from his wife. The rumors of Arnold's infidelities to Maria Shriver were legend, but she stuck by him. Finding out he had known about an illegitimate son of their housekeeper for many years (noone knows for sure how many) was the last straw. Now Arnold is 80 and instead of being part of a big loving family he lives alone in a huge house and his kids come to visit him. I could go on about how Arnold really hurt his "best friend" Franco Columbo, and the number of golden age bodybuilders who think Arnold is an asshole. Sure, jealousy plays a role in that. But the stories are legion of Arnold being a complete dick. Arnold is one of my boyhood heroes who I just admire from afar, and who I have and will never try to meet.

Excellent interview, she prepared well and asked serious questions. Luckily today most things that were considered weird, or only suitable for a small subculture, in 1977 have now become normal and widely accepted.

To remain calm same token focused.. Confident and humorous.. Doesn't make you uncomfortable to have an answer That's philosophy Arnold's satisfactory .. In All the World offers Universal is 'The body works for the mind..The mind doesn't work for the body.. Set yourself great goals and you can accomplish anything' Please don't quote on the quote.. Arnold said it best and set it Universal.. He's always been open and shares his achievements.

Interesting how similar yet different other ponds/communities are? I know & have studied a lot, but there’s always things to work on. I’m big on the rivers of belief 😁. Development’s a passion, but it’s usage is a mastery, whether practical or artisan. There’s always little techniques that are fun to experiment with, but I wonder what I could learn that I haven’t found already about supplemental uptakes. I’m a big man, athletic with an impressive sculpt, but I’ll never have the forge of an enhanced athlete. We had some serious poor strategies as a kid in my region, it’s taken forever to see them through, mostly without help. I don’t know a lot about steroids & have never taken them, but I wouldn’t begin anything without the Primo as the springboard. I don’t know how experienced athletes make out with the dependencies belonging of bigger gear, but I got to be honest it sure looks fun. I don’t really think to many people around here knew how to build a sufficient physique except for this 1 guy named Steve. He was cool, a good dude. I learned good stuff from him. I think the assessments of gear should be reconsidered from a scientific development standpoint. I’m not confident that certain aspects are worth the bad reputation they’ve earned through others overuse. I’ve researched immune function hormone therapy, & its use as a jumpstart catalyst. Especially when it comes to heavy workforce workloads & injury prevention/safety & cognition. The only major societal drawbacks are the characters who engage in nefarious undertakings against the populous or domestications having increased capacity to carry out their misdeeds which should prove relative adjustments for investigators. Being fair. I don’t believe it makes everyone crazy & I take into consideration a culture falling into use with behaviorally antagonistic drugs of various varieties. There’s no question that one genre has produced greatness in Epic proportion, while others have always produced something that could’ve been better if it wasn’t so unstrung. The drawbacks of this epic greatness belongs to why so many die young when others live long. I don’t believe that what is proper should be let lost in time for fables, especially since the doctors whose science derives this typically aren’t the greatness it produces. I don’t feel it’s the benefactors right to let it be slide away by the pressuring grips of threatening legalities. I don’t feel some of that pressure is right or warranted against our species. I hope that reads clear, insomniac rant. Apologies. Compelling vid.
