9:30 Such a good tip here about allowing the squash vines to run along the ground to root out as a defense against vine borer damage. We had a zucchini last year that survived long enough to give us a nice fruit only because it had support roots along the vine. Vine borers are relentless here in Michigan.

Hi Gary. Love your videos. My eggplant leaves are having rust-like colors and spots around some of the leaves. They spread on to other leaves also. I clip them off and discard them. Is this rust? I don't know what the rust is but it could be fungal. I would try and find that out. But I would lean more to an anti fungal. I successfully grew indeterminate tomatoes in 5 gallon buckets last season, however, supporting them became a nightmare. I would now only grow indeterminates in ground or in a raised bed. I should have listened to your advice lol. Try supporting 8 foot tall plants in a 5 gallon bucket on a deck. Needless to say I came home to my plants laying all over the place on more than one occasion. Tomatoes are really tough plants because despite completely falling over multiple times, they never died and produced all the way until frost.

I found from living in Kansas during my first two years of gardening that because of the bad storm we would get that I had to stake up my corn, it’s easier if you put up the wood stakes first and plant corn at the base of each one, a little time consuming but it worked better than using string

Has anyone else been getting the dog vomit mushroom in their yards? It's a real thing... I kept getting these weird looking growths pop up suddenly, researched them on Google, and that's what people call them. Mushrooms mean you have a good soil health, and I have seen multiple types in my yard. I was knocking them down until I saw squirrels eating them. All my perennials are flourishing, growing gigantic, and flowers I had not seen bloom since I moved here. I am digging it... except the looks of that one mushroom... it's gross. Not seeing many pollinators, though... very concerned.

Hi rusted garden, I just have a few question for you. I first want to thank you for such detailed teaching on your channel. I am new to gardening this is officially my first year, I started last year but I didn't plant very much. This year I have a much bigger garden. My question is I planted some cabbage and collards and it looks like the worms really tore into it. There's lots of holes on just about every leaf. I did treat it with the neem oil, over two weeks ago, and again three days ago. I see worms that are still moving and eating. I have followed your teaching on the different organic pesticides. I also just received my kit from you that has the neem oil, the peppermint, and the Rosemary. At this point I really need to know do I scrap this plant or is it any good for eating. I do have some new collards coming up. I don't have any cabbage coming up and wanted to know is it too late in the season for cabbage spinach or watermelon. any help you can give will be most appreciated for a beginner. Thank you so much for all that you do it is definitely paying off in my garden. 👍🏽🙂

Congrats on your first year! New leaves do form. If you see that white butterfly around, they are the issue. They can keep laying eggs. The neem should work but it might not be enough. If it is a crazy infestation. Buy any insect dust from a store and dust the leaves. Between neem and that you should get them under control. It is to warm now for cabbage and spinach but you can plant them again in August for a fall crop. You have time for watermelon for sure. They love the heat. @@THERUSTEDGARDEN Thank you Gary for replying, this information was most helpful. And yes, I remember in your videos about the white butterflies, and yes I have them. I will get some insect dust and try that in between neem oil. You didn't mention what I should do with the already damaged leaves. And one last question, I'm in zone 8a, what should I be planting in this month and July. Thank you so much for your time. I absolutely appreciate the time you put into giving out great information. :)

So if you don't have huge issue with disease and can manage it, closer is fine. H202 takes care of any early blight issues I get. I do bottom prune tomatoes and manage size to keep the air flow.
