Peter Friswell true, but this cost £28 when new, the equivalent of well over £500 today. Modern consumers have driven prices down but sadly quality has been compromised to satisfy them.

A 119 Junior was given to my parents as a wedding present in 1953. i Still have it and use it. I also use the attachments which my mother bought shortly after marrying. It still has the original bag, flex and rubber 2 pin plug marked Hoover. Sorry to say that i dont care for your modern and sterile environment but love your posts. I DO NOT do "Modern"

Great Hoover Vacuum cleaner . Fantastic performance from the vintage machine. I have a few of the 119 models in my collection and they always perform so well cleaning the carpets and reliable too . Much better than the throwaway plastic vacuums offered today . British built quality at its best sums up the Hoover Junior 119

I still use my 119 which is early model having red lettering. My mum had 612 and I also have one but only for show now as in a small bungalow. The 119 still hold its own and so simple to use 1 pedal only.

According to the literature, serial number K700812 dates the machine to approximately December 1953, so its mid way through the 119 production run, which went from 1949 to 1956. There is a contradiction though between the serial number stamped on the base dating the machine to a time well into Elizabeth II's reign (she became Queeen in Feb 1952), and the fact the faceplate has the warrant from George VI rather than Elizabeth II, so the faceplate may not be the original one for that particular machine, rather, it would have come from a 119 made in 1949 to 1951 when George was still King. Often though, old vacs like this could have non original parts on them, but the date code on the serial number does definetely put the machine at very late 1953, despite it having a faceplate from a machine made a couple of years earlier.

Steve Jones the faceplate says by appointment to the LATE king George VI, it was produced after his death but presumably before the company secured warrants from the current queen. I'm not sure how long it is usual to display warrants of deceased monarchs but a couple of years sounds reasonable.

We had two Hoovers when i was younger - this model was my grandma's "upstairs" Hoover - the "downstairs" one was the later 1346a model (with tools!) 😁😁 ps - did this older model have tools? (edit - just seen a video using the tools - such a weird connector! 😂😂)

Sounds like the armature may be open circuit, not producing the power, yousto recondition all hoover vacs year's ago, thousands of them , take off the bottom plate and see if the armature is arcing

The vintage hoover junior was featured in the 1984 Queen track I Want To Break Free. I remember the song so well and it was Freddie Mercury who used the hoover in the 1984 classic. The song had a Coronation Street feeling to it. And the wonderful song is now 37 years old and i love it so dearly.

Juniors and Seniors are still quite common and the value depends on the condition of them or if they are a rarer version. They are normally worth selling even if somebody only needs them for specific parts and better than taking them to the tip.
