Kudos for having the forethought and good judgement to get the training. I relate to it from the swift water rescue classes, first aid, rope rescue techniques, etc I took when I got into whitewater kayaking. You hope to never have to use it but if you need it, it's a game changer. That he had to use his training on himself on his own is the most ironic part. Well done.

This is a great example of why you should always prepare for the worst. If it never comes true, you are still fine. But when it does happen, you are ready and able to deal with it better than anyone else would have. It doesn't often work out well for optimists once the shit hits the fan.

Had a friend fully send his side by side into the woods at night. Ended up nearly dying, leg shattered, we were winching his machine off of him and keeping him dry in a creek bed. Bone fragments upon his pant legs. Things can always be worse and northern canadian paramedics are absolute legends.

Let alone the super cool 911 based rigs for mixed surface racing, tho are awesome (tho obviously very different and expensive lol) But in the spirit of this story always thought taking a Boxster or old Cayman and making it a rallycross/mixed surface style car would be fun. All those extra lights on the front of the car and this river just jumped out in front of him! :D On a side note, he mentions that he had to climb up a 20ft embankment, whilst I'm not discounting that it would have been a fair climb, the pictures show that it is 10-12ft down AT MOST. Give it another 6-18 months and his story will be that he needed Sherpas to help him up a 1000ft ravine! :D:D:D

Did you have a roll cage fitted as that might help with the windows and the roof bending in, and you've got alot of crap on the roof too, as I dont see anything on the dash or cut into it like it might not be a bad idea to do a half cage as the thing wasnt designed with a metal rack on the roof like that in mind with its crumple zones also I would say if you cant see anything, look into getting some night vision goggles for your next night drive so you can see the road better if you get blinded like this again, and wont have to rely on the side of a road as your navigation point

A true accident is a tree falling across the road and striking a car. A person driving off a cliff because they couldn't see the road is a screwup. That said I wholeheartedly support having someone in the group with some medical training, even if it's just basic First Aid and CPR

Okay, okay...Let's stop pretending. There is no such thing as an "accident" when it comes to auto collisions. Saying things like, "I couldn't even see the tail lights in front of me" is a pretty obvious clue. 😅 "Driving too fast for conditions" is exactly the cause. If you can't see and you crash...you were going too fast, even if the speed was 8 MPH....YOU CAN'T SEE. 😂 Let's look at if from another perspective, if you could see and were driving safe for conditions, than you drove off the embankment on purpose. That's your only other option to this scenario. 🫣
