I was in the same boat on the 918, couldn't see the value. Years from now, I expect we may hear a very entertaining story about what happened behind the scenes to get those cars moving. It wasn't a naturally occurring phenomena.

Ed Bolian hey Ed it’s Zack again remember I was asking you for advice a while back about if I should sell my 2014 bmw b7 alpina?? Well I bought it with 59 thousand km for very cheap and now it has roughly 10k more on the engine I can sell it for a profit but question is what replaces a nice car like this it’s got class speed and comfort. It’s almost like I’m jaded lol. I don’t wanna have sellers remorse and I’m sure you know what I mean. What to do ...!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔

Exzavior Williams he also sold his XKE 120 and 240 for retrospective pennies... but all he has left is his least favorite car, a 356C. He rebuilt the engine 4 times to try to like the car but never did... I have no proof, but his DB5 was one vin off of the james bond car.... if you ever see a db5 for sale with a burn mark from the cigarette lighter in one of the seats, that was his car.

This sounds like $3M in missed profits (M1, XJ220, 599, Lambos, 918 at $500k each). How does that compare to the profits you actually made over the last 10 years?

It's all about risk. Can you take the risk of just keeping your money in cars sitting in your garage for years hoping they'll go up in value vs investing the money in something you know that you can make a profit on? No. It's the same reason you don't put your life savings in bitcoin and cross your fingers that you become a multi-millionaire.

@DiscoFang
@DiscoFang 6 жыл бұрын
To put this into perspective you should learn about property values. These cars are the uncommon side of vehicle ownership - luck+rarity or big pockets+rarity. Hanging onto the right car is mostly a gamble and even then its not huge. Just being a little bit sensible in property will make you a millionaire.
@DiscoFang
@DiscoFang 6 жыл бұрын
Brett Bilger And in reply to your question $40K & some sweat invested 3 years ago has now increased to $400K. Going back to the last 10years has seen 500K increase to 2.4M. And that's in property. Holding onto cars is just for fun.

Wow, that is wild that you had helped sell multiple 599 manuals. What a unicorn; while I've heard the transmissions are not geared well (and now unreliable), the rarity of that car always intrigued me. My neighbor had one with an F1, and in grey, and it's one of the only Ferraris I think to have it's unique design and understated appearance. It has that low-key, and classy, appearance of something like an Aston. Great stories from Doug per usual!

I had the good sense to store the American Motors AMX 390 with the Go Pack dual quads I ordered new in 1969 & I still have it today ,I only used the garage kept car for weekend track meets until 1972 when I bought my 1st Corvette so I have an extremely rare factory paint ,interior & drive train AMX that I've been offered $80,000 for , the car I kick myself for selling off is the extremely rare limited edition 1976 Torino Starsky & Hutch edition of 1,000 built by Ford , mine was number 109 of 1,000 and when I sold it in 1990 it only had 1,450 miles on it being driven with another roughly 2,000 hours of motor run time while parked in my climate controlled garage , I traded the car even up for a 1976 Harley Davidson Cafe Racer that was still brand new & in it's factory crate and had been sitting in the back of a Harley dealership since the original buyer ordered it & paid in cash then never took possession of the bike because he was killed in a car accident , my HD Cafe racer has less than 300 miles on it & is worth right around $35 grand while my limited edition Gran Torino would be worth $60,000 , I'm now 74 years old & have quit selling any of my collection of cars , motorcycles and vintage high end HiFi systems because of how I've lost on every sale .

I've got a 69 912, my mom bought it new in 1969. We didn't think it was very valuable. It was the Porsche, and we had a lot of fun with it. About the time I took over the car, she was talking to someone about the value of the car. "It's worth how much?", she couldn't believe it. I've had people try to make offers, my only counter offer is, "after I'm gone". But because of my 912 I bought a 04 Carrera(I live in Phoenix, AZ. I wanted AC). Which lucky for me are very undervalued cars. Of course I did my homework, but I will say both of those cars are a heck of a lot of fun. Which is the only reason to own a Porsche.

In that town an older Thai gentleman had two TWO 1955 Lancia Aurelia B24 Spyders. They weren’t running and the guy had no means of fixing them. My grandpa paid him equivalent to $$8,500 today. What astounds me the most is how these guys, who are in the business themselves can't see the pattern. We all know there's a reason why these cars shoot up in value so much (and not only people piling them up for profit). Leaving behind the newer models, the older ones they get cheaper and cheaper and cheaper to the point where people who can't afford to service them start buying and crashing or ruining them and fewer and fewer remain every year. So it's only natural for the price of an extremely rare car like the XJ220 to skyrocket. Even now if i had $500k, i'd buy that Jaguar in a heartbeat and i bet in tops 2 years time it will be worth twice as much. However i wouldn't buy anything made after 2005. Like every car from the past 15 years even the exotics miss the character they used to have back in the 80s and 90s except for Koenigsegg. I think they're the only car manufacturer who managed to capture the supercar spirit in the modern days.

I buy cars to have fun with and make money on. So far I have never lost money on a car. Now my Boxster that I have owned for 10 years has lost value but it doesn't count unless I sell it lol.

My former boss purchased a blue boss 429 from a junkyard and sold it engine and all for less than $15,000, he says he regrets everyday selling the car when he did.
