I was in the same boat on the 918, couldn't see the value. Years from now, I expect we may hear a very entertaining story about what happened behind the scenes to get those cars moving. It wasn't a naturally occurring phenomena.

This sounds like $3M in missed profits (M1, XJ220, 599, Lambos, 918 at $500k each). How does that compare to the profits you actually made over the last 10 years?
@ZeAntiNooob6 жыл бұрын
It's all about risk. Can you take the risk of just keeping your money in cars sitting in your garage for years hoping they'll go up in value vs investing the money in something you know that you can make a profit on? No. It's the same reason you don't put your life savings in bitcoin and cross your fingers that you become a multi-millionaire.

These guys are FOOLS. there's a reason there's plenty of material for the VINWIKI owners to choose from. There's no shortage of dumb ignorant folks in the car community. There's a reason you modify miatas and not lamborghinis!
@DiscoFang6 жыл бұрын
To put this into perspective you should learn about property values. These cars are the uncommon side of vehicle ownership - luck+rarity or big pockets+rarity. Hanging onto the right car is mostly a gamble and even then its not huge. Just being a little bit sensible in property will make you a millionaire.
@DiscoFang6 жыл бұрын
Brett Bilger And in reply to your question $40K & some sweat invested 3 years ago has now increased to $400K. Going back to the last 10years has seen 500K increase to 2.4M. And that's in property. Holding onto cars is just for fun.

I've got a 69 912, my mom bought it new in 1969. We didn't think it was very valuable. It was the Porsche, and we had a lot of fun with it. About the time I took over the car, she was talking to someone about the value of the car. "It's worth how much?", she couldn't believe it. I've had people try to make offers, my only counter offer is, "after I'm gone". But because of my 912 I bought a 04 Carrera(I live in Phoenix, AZ. I wanted AC). Which lucky for me are very undervalued cars. Of course I did my homework, but I will say both of those cars are a heck of a lot of fun. Which is the only reason to own a Porsche.

What astounds me the most is how these guys, who are in the business themselves can't see the pattern. We all know there's a reason why these cars shoot up in value so much (and not only people piling them up for profit). Leaving behind the newer models, the older ones they get cheaper and cheaper and cheaper to the point where people who can't afford to service them start buying and crashing or ruining them and fewer and fewer remain every year. So it's only natural for the price of an extremely rare car like the XJ220 to skyrocket. Even now if i had $500k, i'd buy that Jaguar in a heartbeat and i bet in tops 2 years time it will be worth twice as much. However i wouldn't buy anything made after 2005. Like every car from the past 15 years even the exotics miss the character they used to have back in the 80s and 90s except for Koenigsegg. I think they're the only car manufacturer who managed to capture the supercar spirit in the modern days.
