Virgo Vibes. Great one. Picked that up as well Mark. Been looking for a copy of that Tortoise LP. Solid session again. Cheers.

The perfect Sunday morning wake-up. Great to see you both back and hanging out in the same room. I will be back to recap later on. First I am going to grab my cup of Dunkin, heat it up a bit and enjoy it while watching. For now. Have a nice day John and Mark. Temps are going up to 93° in New England today. Most likely a little cooler here on the coast. You know I never heard of Bernard Wright until today. I was listening to my new Sun Ra Arkestra pressing called 'Babylon' Under the direction of the legendary Marshall Allen. They pressed 1999 numbered copies and he signed a few of them. That 7:05 was funny. I have to agree. Not the coolest name for a record. Ok gents. I will recap later on~ Rob/Boston

Hi Rob - Sounds hot in New England! Seem to remember things getting quite humid there too. How is the Babylon Sun Ra record?

@@omniversal7 I have not spun it yet John. Time has been very limited lately. I am back to working my small landscaping business on weekends again. This time of year everyone wants their yards done. I work full time on my other job so the only time I can help them is on weekends. It is cutting into my beach time. {smile} But I will be giving it a proper listen this weekend. I will pass on some info as soon as I do. Thanks for asking~

Funky stuff and other detours into great music, thanks guys. Nice to see Mark's name on the Hamburger All- Stars, don't know that band, but I do have some Impact All- Stars on a Blood and Fire comp. In 1970, singer, Linda Hoover recorded the album, '' I Mean To Shine'', with Steely Dan, it got shelved but is now issued on Omnivore label. Chuck Mangione was featured on the animated TV show, ''King Of The Hill''. Michael Henderson and Norman Connors, both have interesting career trajectories, i.e. Miles Davis and Sam Rivers!! Les Mc Cann's ''Invitation To Openess'' is my fave by him. Europe 72 was a stellar time period for the Grateful Dead, Phil Lesh described Billy Kreutzman as playing drums like a young God, during that tour! The Dead were improvisers on par with the classic Coltrane quartet. R.I.P. Charnette Moffett

Hi Michael. King of the Hill - of course - Feels So Good :) Love that Phil Lesh quote. So true. I had an Ornette and a Sonny Sharrock record in the box featuring Charnett and forgot to play either of them!

I may have told you both about the drive from my buddy's cottage in Plymouth, Mass to the Cape Cod Coliseum in 1976 to see Jeff Beck and Lynyrd Skynyrd. The Royal Scam was playing continuously on the hour plus ride to the show and back. It had just been released the week of the show. I think I knew it inside and out by the time I got back home. {smile} So whenever I hear the album I think of the Summer Of 76, Jeff Beck/Skynyrd at the Coliseum. A few weeks prior to that show I saw Peter Frampton perform Comes Alive at the same venue. >< Very interesting hearing you speak about Everything Must Go John. I know that the both of you appreciate Steely Dan which pleases me. >< Did you show that William Fischer before. I can remember seeing it and checking it out. It is a fantastic record for 1970. Forceful fusion indeed Mark. >< Wasn't there an ASWAD Festival? Was it any relation to Aswad the musician? >< I really enjoyed this update guys. Took ne a bit to get back to it. But I wouldn't have missed it for the world~ Rob/Boston

Hey Rob - I also have fond memories of Katy Lied, the Royal Scam and AJA coming out and really devouring the music! So much quality, depth and musicianship to enjoy in that music. I think I must have seen Skynrd around that time too - pre the tragic plane crash. I am not aware of an Aswad Festival? I know that Aswad translates as 'black' in arabic so can understand how it might have been used as a title for a festival. Always to good to connect with you Rob and hear your thoughtful comments. Cheers

Always great to see you. The thought of you both getting down to that mighty steppers tune makes me smile. A big tune that is hard to resist. I played it the other day with my son and we both love it more with ever. Another real corker is Bukkha’s War Flute. A more mystical stepper. Well worth a listen. Quality records. That Aswad Dub LP is great - 6inchP recommended it to me. All the best to you both.

Blimey! I never knew that Bernard Wright was Roberta Flack’s son. You learn something new everyday. Great Parliament record. Not one that I spin that often so need to pull that one out. I like that you both often highlight tracks that are lost in the grooves. Those tracks that are buried at the tail end of albums that often get ignored. Will pull out the Roy Ayers and Norman Connors albums that you showed to revisit those tracks. I like the Brandee Younger album. 2021 was the year of the jazz harp records, with Amanda Whiting and N Sinephro also having put out fantastic albums. 👍

Always interesting and fun to see what others are listening to. Do you guys often do listening sessions together? I'm always envious- would love to have a friend close by to get together and discuss albums we are listening to; how fun:) Cheers to you both!

Yayyyy I get blessed with a recent sit-in with you guys. Bernard's Funky Beat record is also very good. Wouldn't you two say that Michael Henderson is a severely underrated artist? I mean all of hiis albums are super funky from the first record to the one you're showing.... just great records. I think Second Movement is in some ways even better than Swiss Movement. Do I love Michel Legrand. Amazing . Glad that you guys were listening to Tribe. I was literally just listeing to the Brand New Heavies debut no more than 3 days ago. I was unaware of that box set. I think they are over there performing around your country as we speak. I just showed the duet album with Dezron Douglas and Brandee Younger (International Anthem) in my latest video... please check that out if you have the chance. Ahhhh Mark; I am all over that Hamburger All Stars record.... I cannot wait to get it. That Idris Muhammed is so good. Kudu is one of the most underrated Jazz labels in my honest opinion. Great Great Great to see you both. - TONE

Hey Tone - good to see you drop by. We both are in agreement about Michael Henderson - I also think his bass tone and feel is so underrated - his greasy , stanky style is so visceral and funky. Yep - hands down - Second Movement trumps their other collaboration..John had mentioned the Dezron/Brandee collaboration on International Anthem - I will check that out and your video of course. The Hamburger All Stars is proper post-punk music - lots of ideas but we were still learning how to technically express them! Cheers - Mark
