Thank you very much, sometimes one just feels so exhausted and tired while playing, but instead of just stopping, a little break with some stretching makes you able to continue for hours! This was very helpful and also easy for anyone to do! Thanks!!

these are useful despite some minor medically incorrect statements (eg. “tendinitis” is often actually cervical nerve impingement due to forward head posture)- It is also incorrect to assume that violinist should not do the corner stretch with her elbows low. All persons should do the corner stretch in 3 positions- with upper arms parallel to the floor - then elbows lower and then elbows higher. That is because anatomically you’re trying to stretch the pectoralis muscles which are in the shape of a fan, and it cannot be fully stretched with only one or 2 arm positions. it is also helpful to put 1 foot forward as leaning into the doorway especially with the arms in the lower or higher position to support

Thank you so much for this. I have been playing violin for a long time, and no one warned me about my "daily" posture growing up! I have been getting headaches and issues after playing the violin. My neck according to the x-rays is so far forward, and I am on a long journey to strengthen my core. I will be doing these exercises; thank you for posting this video!!!

Professor Bushkova, glad to hear you enjoy other sports despite injuries. Thank you for your video. Posture is indeed very important and I find the corner stretch excellent, especially the advice on the angle. I have been taking weekly ballet lessons a bit over a year and my violin playing has benefited from newly acquired body position awareness, mobility, and structural stability. My teacher was rejoiced since I finally "smartened up" and moved away from contact sports. But life sometimes needs a bit of hot sauce

Thank you for sharing these exercises, I do the warm up exercises from your other video too, that too has really helped me when I start to tense up after long periods of practice. I do struggle with poor posture unknowingly and I train martial arts! So this and my standing meditations are helping my violin posture. Thank you.

Actually it is helpful to pull the shoulder blades back routinely, as strength training- that’s called a scap pinch, The key to being able to stand up tall is having strong middle and lower trapezius muscles to counteract the overactive upper trapezius muscle. In fact if you keep your elbows into the side and move your hands back and raise the chest and pinch the shoulder blades together 30 times a day this is definitely going to help. be sure to keep the chin tucked while performing this. Also you were discussing raising the chest which involves a lot of development of the serratus anterior and I this can be strengthened with straight arm push-ups or extended punches forward. deep breathing exercises into the upper lung are also extremely helpful in opening up space between the first rib and clavicle

thank you! this was very helpful. I have a pinched nerve in my neck (from playing for 32 years) but only recently started getting tendonitis wrist pain in the left hand after long orchestra concerts. My teacher recently commented that my neck looked tight when playing. Makes a lot of sense. Thanks again!

I know the corner exercise from my physician but not in a corner but in a door. If you have problems with your disks be very cautious and make sure your shoulders are down during the exercise. !
@ViolinClassUSA
@ViolinClassUSA 3 жыл бұрын
That is precisely why I do not recommend doing these in a door -- it is much more unstable in the door.

Если возможно, хотелось бы узнать есть ли разница в постановке между стоячим и сидячим положением ( к примеру,в оркестре) . Спасибо!
@ViolinClassUSA
@ViolinClassUSA 3 жыл бұрын
В постановке разницы нет, но в том, как положение действует на тело, разница есть. Нужно знать, как правильно сидеть для игры в оркестре.. К сожалению, нас учили сидеть неправильно.

This may sound crazy BUT for beginners if you are trying to get used to using your fingers properly and having a decent hold.... if you hold a couple fingers down for a scale or whatever else and apply alot of force into it........your finger muscles will tire out. Then your arm will be too tired to perform unecessary actions forcing you to be more smooth, calm, and light. Thus building better habits. Also her advice is fire. If what i said doesnt work for you in a couple weeks dont it ever again its very random.

Doing the corner stretch mind you don't raise your shoulders any higher than they initially are.

Hello , first of all thank you for such great videos and lessons! I am a pro violinist, 27 yrs old. Recently i discoverd that i have ganglion cyst on my right wrist, it is painful. Anyone with same diagnosis who would like to share their experiences? I really would appreciate it 💕
@ViolinClassUSA
@ViolinClassUSA 3 жыл бұрын
Ganglion cysts on the wrists are fairly common, unfortunately. My father (who was a high level prof. violinist) had one for a while and bandaged it tightly. His did not hurt much, though. Oftentimes, they go away on their own (my father's did), but if is troublesome, it can be drained or removed. www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/ganglion-cyst/diagnosis-treatment/drc-20351160
