This ☝️ Yes he talked way to much, but you people need to acknowledge the fact that he's actually doing what he's passionate about and getting his hands dirty. He may be far from being an icon but if he keeps going and learning from his mistakes and hard work, the only way for him is up.

@@kidproduction6720 virgil has been in the game for many years now so of course he knows the basics to building a brand, but his success can be easily traced back to his connections with kanye west and asap mob. I mean Ian Connor was in his first photoshoot and now he has his own brand, which virgil wears. The whole thing is one big clout exchange so they can all grow as artists. unless you think guys like virgil and asap bari are just gifted graphic designers, and if you look at the design work they've done on their own (without a team of designers) it doesn't add up to much. The Vlone V" is a tattered up LV "V" and Virgil made hoodies with stolen artwork and gave them to kanye west and asap mob. I don't agree with T'challa but hyping this guy up is just silly.

Virgils main point In the conversation (if you were listening) was the concept of 'hyper focus'. The kid has a billion random ideas and references that could be used each as their own brand. Regardless if he picked anime, military, accessibility etc it seems he decided to focus on a concept and follow that hyper focus advice. Fan or not, seems to be working for him
@randomperson4942
@randomperson4942 4 жыл бұрын
@@stephaniecarter2592 I understood that after I watched the entire video but in regards of anime Virgil was touching on the actual cuts and design of the garments within the anime. It just seems like he went overboard on that 1 piece of advice. I like the stuff shown in this old video more than the current brand. Its literally just screenprinted anime clothes.
@stephaniecarter2592
@stephaniecarter2592 4 жыл бұрын
@@randomperson4942 agreed, regardless of how its designed it still follows the concept of hyper focus. Its no longer a combo of different things, only anime which has its audience. Could he expand and go deeper than shirts or the concept of anime from a black & white perspective? Yes 100%.

Virgil probably hears this so often when people pitch their clothing vision and ideas to him. Virgil said it perfectly, when he sees the content, he sees 7 brands. I think his mind has transcended the hype street wear culture although being still heavily influenced. The young kid on the other hand, and I commend him for doing what he's doing, is so engulfed in current things that are trendy despite wanting to create timeless pieces. His clothing looks really similar to stuff that pops up on instagram ads every few posts.

@wakeupshitiots His brand relies on popular and iconic animes and already existing IPs. If you strip that out, you are left with clothes that are generic and forgettable. He wanted to create timeless pieces, but in the end, he ate those words up and just wanted the quick cash. Kudos to him tho for getting that bread.

I'm at a 3:23 right now and paused the video just to get my two cents out. When Kanye came to Perth in 2014 I accidentally ran into Virgil at my local cafe while I was walking back to class at my TAFE. The man who had already designed multiple off-white collections went out of his way to have a conversation with me about art, fashion and Kanye's show while he was eating lunch with Nina Las Vegas. He was so polite and nice to me even though I was wearing the most bum ass fake been trill X HBA shirt and Pyrex shirt. No matter what the outcome of this video is I just want to say that he is deep down in his heart a nice and genuine guy. Allot of people who are around these mega stars before they blow up get a huge head but not Virgil. He's a real bloke who will take the time out of his day if he has it available just to show his fans love. Good luck to this kid in the future I wish I got the opportunity that he has been given.

richard tuan ok I’m not the biggest fan of off white, but he is an incredible influence on fashion culture, a creative director for Louis Vuitton and ACW. You may call his stuff garbage but he paved the way for streetwear to merge with high fashion. Also Kanye designed a unique and well made high quality shoe that I think is pretty fascinating, not only that but Virgils ideas may seem simple and that’s why people call him “unskilled” but at the same time the simplicity he’s achieved is unlike anything that’s been done in fashion

Great video. Very thought provoking. This kid's mind is running at 100 miles an hour. He talks a lot but isn't saying much. lol. It's great that Virgil's main point is to bring it back in to a more focused vision. The worldwide concept is cool, but I feel like he could push it further. It looks like he is mostly just putting some flags on blank garments. If I were in his shoes, I would consider making up my own flags that then influence the garments. Also look at other "world" designs like the UN logo or old olympics logos for example and pull design elements from that to create new graphics. Could also look at designing his own "Olympics" logo when he is focusing on a specific country.

Most brands fail at doing that and just recycle what’s already been done. People need to stop hating. This kid is onto something. Think about it, he got this far without formal training. But this interview was filmed in 2016, and I checked his brand page in 2020; bottom line is it hasn't evolved at all. I disagree that he adds his own influence into anything. A hoodie with flags on it isnt really adding any personal influence. I'm not disparaging his character or anything, but to be fair his designs are basic and are meant for pacsun. Is that bad? Depends on what your goal is. No hate, just my opinion ^_^

Rashid Taylor you have no idea what you’re saying. This brand is the definition of unoriginality, having no personal influence spun into the project. If you walk into your nearest Zumiez you can find dozens of ethik pieces that look exactly the same and are better made that plaster identical designs, to the hypland ones (not to mention they were around way before hypland), all throughout their pieces. Get a grip man, the only reason why it’s relatively successful is why all Zumiez brands are successful and that is the fact that there is a demographic of weebs and “skaters” out there that actually think they’re cool wearing this garbage of screen printed anime characters and embroidered flags.
