I was in fourth grade on this day in the community when that happened... Our school went on lock down, and we sat huddled in the corner, no talking, no lights. I was so young I didn't understand, but I remembered being scared because my mom worked near campus. Our community was eerily silent during this time, and for some time after. The community, love and support that has grown out of this horrible event, however, is such a beautiful and genuine feeling. If you ever visit, you will see it. Honestly, all that incident could have been totally avoided had the resident advisors of the dorm I lived in would have taken their job seriously. I say this because I lived a couple of doors down the shooter's dorm room, and witnessed him doing so many weird things throughout the semester, but the student resident advisors never really cared or did anything, they were a joke. They didn't want to be bothered, they just wanted free room and board offered by their pretend job. Had they intervened or just taken action, all those people will still be alive. I feel like he would have spared me if he had stumbled upon me inside of Norris Hall while in my German class, I always said hi to him, but never saw anybody else do so. He was troubled but also bullied. I definitely could see it coming. He really hated an African American female teacher of his, I remember him talking about it and then lighting up a book on fire in the middle of the study hall. He could have easily caused a fire within the dorm that one time, but the resident advisor wouldn't even open his door, he was to busy to do his job.

Thinking what if he had been closer to the building earlier ! It still haunts me to this day that I could of lost brother! I know Colombine is important cuz it was the first of many school shootings, but I think everyone seems to forget about Virginia Tech and others massacres like Santa Fe, Sandy Hook and Pulse. Those people are survivors too and, in my opinion, they were as traumatic as Colombine was. Not everything is about Colombine, I would love to watch more documentaries about Virginia Tech, there are so many questions unsolved still and would like to see how are the survivors going, teachers, students, everyone.

I'm still so upset with the media for releasing the tapes that the shooter gave them before he went on the shooting rampage. It just gives him the undeserved attention and recognition that he so craved and encourages other suicidal people to commit mass homicide as well (aka copycats). We need to remember the brave victims and the first responders, not the mass murderer!

@@Dawnyy fight fire with fire defenitly not the answer. Every nation in this modern world has these type of gun attacks they ban weapons and even though it sucks that the average Joe can't play with his gun collection anymore it will save countless lives. We all know the real reason that American don't ban firearms is because of power and money.

@@Dawnyy you got a concealed pistol modern day massacres the shooter has a fkin assault rifle so you won't stand a chance. And the worst thing you can do is publicised the killer in news and documentaries. It inspires the isolated nomads of the world that they too can gain infamy by carting out there own attack.
