@psilon6999

@@retropulse03 i have a really bad motion sickness IRL when it comes to cars, i think it's because of the feeling of not being in control of the surrounding and the effects of gravity on your body changing randomly when the driver turns etc, i really want to try driving a car if that makes me sick but i didn't have a chance yet... but weirdly enough, i never got sick in VR, i had pretty much zero problems when it comes to VR, like you said when you push it you get dizzy like when i tried a mod in B&S that increased jump height, going up was fine but falling was very weird and i nearly fell IRL :D my first time playing a game where you walk was funny because as you do you adjust your body when you walk so when i first tried walking i leaned forward and nearly fell but from that point i adjusted to VR quickly and didn't have any problems, but different people have different problems, my sister on the other hand that never gets sick IRL, gets very quickly sick in VR when walking or in Beat Saber or similar games when there are walls close to her like when you have to dodge that makes her sick to the point she has to close her eyes and stand awkwardly. i don't think you can just make yourself motion sick on command by yourself, i think it has to be out of your control, have you tried being in the back seat of an agressive driver? that is the worst for me, the constat speeding up and slowing down and sharp turn, i get very sick to the point where i have to get out of the car before i vomit everywhere :D also the seatbelts play a part in it i think, when the lower part squeezes my stomach when slowing down it just helps to push any food i had outside :D

Boneworks was pretty much the first VR title I played, never had motion sickness but then I tried Contractors VR and got really irritated less than 20mins everytime and couldn't play it, the main factor was frame drops that kept happening but now I'm used to those too, I can proudly say that no game can give me motion sickness for I have dared to play Gmod online in VR...

The problem is: most games these days lack these physic objects or interactive objects; this is part of the reason why flatscreen to VR ports dont work well (not just because of the missing weapon handling), the world just feels dead. We somehow went from Crysis 1 (where the trees reacted to explosions and gunfire) and Red Faction Guirella (were you could demolish entire buildings) to games were you can throw a grenade into an office space and the only effect you see is a burn mark sprite on the ground...

Agree 100% about Blade and Sorcery. Such a shame too. Hope they fix things. Using two handed weapons is so junky right now, even more so in enclosed spaced. I would love to see this kind of analysis given on different approaches to immersion. For instance, the lack of a body in Alyx compared to Boneworks just kills it for me. I've always said I didn't like FPS games, and didn't find them immersive because of "floating hands". Then VR comes along and literally has "Floating hands" in certain games. When I can see my arms and look down at my body though... man I am there.

tip for climbing in blade and sorcery: when you reach the top of the structure you just climbed, instead of trying to further climb up to reach the top, its much easier just to fling yourself over the edge. grab the ledge with one or two hands, raise your arms above you, and push down your arms while letting go. this'll fling you upwards and usually on top of the structure.

For boneworks where you were talking about the odd physics quirks, pushing against an immovable object will naturally push you back instead (newtons third law), and the character automatically crouching when airborne is because people were having trouble figuring out that you need to crouch in the air to vault over obstacles easily so they just made it automatic. As for climbing, you can be very fast at it if you understand that the game applies forces to your character to match your real life arm positions to your virtual arms. Play by the games rules and you will find the gameplay much smoother.

In blade and sorcery, you can jump when you are grabbing walls, so you can get over them easily. The arrow stabbing bug is a common problem, and you can’t stab them with other weapons sometimes like swords and axes. However, I’m pretty sure it can be fixed by grabbing and letting go of the person who you’re trying to stab

The biggest and only problem I have with Boneworks is that it seems like they used one sound effect for EVERY single gun. If each gun was distinctive in how it sounds, it would be more rewarding to use different weapons, and I feel that each shot would be more satisfactory if the sound design was more immersive in this way, adding power and kick to the gun in your brain each time you fire it.

For hellsplit horse combat use one hand to hold the pike on each side. Also make it so your horse is as close to the enemy as possible so it's harder for them to dodge. You can break their shields, totally break through their armor, and stab them way easier. Also you can use snap turning to turn your horse around easier.

I was suprised that you didn't roast boneworks for no reason like in the "Best gunplay in VR" video . BTW in Blade & Sorcery if you are struggling with trying to get over a legde you can press the jump button to boost yourself up the legde. I personaly like boneworks more because it lets you do a lot of stuff , for example you can watch my last video where I used the physics in to my advantage. I also think Vertigo remastered should have been in this video because like HLA it is VERY polished and has melee with no jank (HLA should have used something similar).

shouda included hard bullet! accurate, realistic physics with no bs like boneworks disabling hand collisions shortly when dropping something, or blade and sorcery making thrown daggers act as bloody arrows, and it all works really rather well

In my experience, I found that between Alyx and Boneworks, I found the physics and immersion of Boneworks to be much stronger, I think this was due to Boneworks giving you *arms* as opposed to just hands, on top of that it has melee combat that's fairly fun, if not also really humorous

SUCH good analysis here. I really wish more games were like HL Alyx. The polish there is simply amazing, right down to simple hand pose changes. Makes for a much smoother and less "jank" feel. Shit snapping into your hands should be gone by now, but sadly isn't.

I agree with most of these assessments except for Hellsplit having "no jank." I found penetrating the skin of an enemy at all to be just as difficult as in Blade & Sorcery. It was frustrating enough that I returned it, which I didn't do with Blade & Sorcery.

Honestly, Boneworks and Blade & Sorcerry proved and showed that physics are a must for any VR game. Because without it the game could be great as much as it wants, but it wont be that good. Alyx is a great game, but imho the physics manipulation lacks compated to Boneworks and B&S. I think that I have th emost time in B&S because I simply love the sandbox fighting :D

I feel saint and sinners physics will be the standard physics for most future vr games since it is not janky in anyway, it’s not crazy impressive, weighting for objects is pretty good and it gets the job done well
@AKCobra1120
@AKCobra1120 2 жыл бұрын
I agree. What I like about Saints & Sinners is that it's totally focused on things that actually enhance the game play. No you can't pick up every object in the game, but you can pick up the things you need. You can't climb everywhere but you can climb where you need to. Yeah its fun to be able to pick up every box you see and kick it around, but after 2 minutes who really cares. I'd much rather have realistic weapons holstering and melee combat.

You missed the bottle physics in hl alyx you can move bottes and see the liquor inside them bubble up and shift around based on how you hold them. and you can put them in a cage and then carry a dozen bottles, and they rattle around inside the cage. Crazy impressive

Boneworks - simultaneously pulling the trigger and grip to draw the weapon makes accidental draws less likely. But with 100% probability they lead to unintentional shooting in an unknown direction. And given that the game has been abandoned for a long time, sooner or later this will begin to happen not only on not very popular VR systems like Reverb G2, but on all systems in general. Walking Dead also has a whole bunch of problems, and it's not surprising again with the weapon draw system, especially after the last update which was clearly pulled with its last legs and it's unlikely we will see any patches or updates in the future. Alex is having issues with graphic settings where the game looks like it is on the lowest settings on the highest settings, the problem is a broken rendering system in the viewport, when was the last time Alex was updated there? And all these problems appeared over time, the software of VR systems is updated, games is not = a lot of rubbish. On systems like Index they might still work fine, on everyone else... welcome to the casino world, you're either lucky or you're not. P.s. The system for simultaneously pressing the trigger and grip for getting out of the holster is not used anywhere. Because: 1) Since when is this a problem? How can it happen that you suddenly wanted to press the grip in extremely hard-to-reach places on the body? 2) You learn very quickly not to do this. Without idiotic solutions like, "HEY! You need to get a gun, come on you pull the TRIGGER, it's safe!" 3) This leads to problems when you start shooting while drawing your weapon. 4) It goes against any normal brain function or gun handling rules.

This video is very good, but one critique is that i have to mention is how little justice you did the climbing in Blade and Sorcery. Its actually the least heavy of the three you mention with climbing--it really feels like it simulates the use of your legs much more than most other games, and it allows you to fling your arms to leap between grab points and jump off of walls, as well as swing off of lanterns, keeping parity with your arm position. By far the best movement of all of these, though admittedly its unrealistic, as you can grab almost any edge on any environment. Makes climbing buildings like youre in Assassin's Creed real easy though. Also if you ever find yourself needing to climb up to the top of a ledge, I have an easy solution that ONLY works in B&S, not the others--First, grab the ledge with both hands like youd assume. Second, raise your hands a bit so youre hanging from the ledge. Finally, fling your arms like you intend to vault over/on top of the ledge, while releasing grab and pressing jump. You'll fling yourself up and over the edge and land atop with no issues. Once you get used to it, its one of the most satisfying climbing systems in any VR game IMO.

i appreciate this review it was very accurate tho there is a few things you could've mentioned, you can go back to older updates in blades and sorcery if you feel like the older versions were better, you can also use mods from that time, boneworks is lanky but is meant for people who have good grip of the vr mechanics as said in the menu ''this game is for for expert VR users" (i have over 300 hours on the game alot on climbing and yes; as much as i defend any critisism thrown towards the game, it does feel lanky but once you get used to the climbing and other janks it feels flawless) other than that amazing video not many people actually compare like this and you sir have earned a new sub
