I don't blame Rivers being ashamed of Pinkerton during this time. He's so shy and he put out his feelings to the world and the world tore his heart and destroyed his soul. So if there's really anyone to blame for his poor lyrics during these years, it's our fault. All Rivers needed was more people to like it at the time.

It's weird, because that's not the way I remember the Pinkerton era exactly. There were some issues, it got a few bad reviews and it sold a quarter or a fifth of what the blue album sold but they had problems with the label due to a legal case over the name, so it didn't really get a fair shot. Fans were demented for Pinkerton at the time though. People couldn't get enough. They still had decent momentum in '96/'97 but they let it fizzle out when they should have worked harder at it. Pat getting bored of touring and Matt Sharp wanting to spend more time on the Rentals didn't help. There was a whole bunch of factors. They should have let Spike Jonze do his El Schorcho video too. But it wasn't the fans fault is what I'm trying to say! The fans were hardcore, completely obsessed.

The dude asked my girl if she wanted to meet him lmao she was like wtf. I'm sure she'd love to meet him but just not in that way and she said no hahaha. He asked all young, blonde girls which was surprising.
