I always wondered why the Ford flatplane V8 sounded so uneven for a flatplane. Interesting to know it's because of unequal length headers. Very informative! I wonder if this was intentional to give the americans the burbling sound they're so used to. 'murrica. Great channel. Keep it up!
@corri3037 жыл бұрын
It sounds amazing for sure,.
@65Red6 жыл бұрын
Actually, its not due to unequal length headers. The headers are relatively the same length on both banks. The burbling sound comes from the different firing order compared to a Ferrari. Ferrari uses 1-5-3-7-4-8-2-6 while the ford 5.2l Voodoo uses 1-5-4-8-3-7-2-6 which makes the exhaust pulses from each bank look like so: Left-Right-L-R-L-R-L-R
@nicopestana2985 жыл бұрын
They did unequal length because ford ran out of space in the engine bay
@MyTubeUser3215 жыл бұрын
@@65Red not really. You can have a different firing order, but as long as the pulses alternate between each bank through the entire stroke cycle, it'll sound the same as any equal length Flat-plane. The burble in the crossplane comes from two cylinders firing right after one another in the same bank (i.e. L-R-L-R-R-L-R-L, the 4th and 5th cylinders fire after eachother in the same bank as well as the 8th and the 1st cylinder). This effect can be mimicked by making the headers of unequal length to make the exhaust pulses "collide" with eachother. McLaren also did this with their log-style turbo manifolds in their visit made before the 570s and 675lt (the 570s and 675lt use equal length tubular manifolds) As a matter of fact, someone made a custom twin turbo kit for his GT350 using equal length headers and it basically lost the v8 rumble and sounds like a typical flat-plane. kzbin.info/www/bejne/a5zTn36af9J_nsk
@65Red5 жыл бұрын
KZbin User I’ve never heard of a set of headers making the 5.2 voodoo sound like a traditional flat plane. Using a turbo kit will always muffle the exhaust and make it seem more smooth due to the exhaust impeller. Anyways, the bank firing order will always change the exhaust pitch and sound. This is why an old flathead 4 cylinder and a 90’s Honda 4 cylinder sound way different. Crossplane vs flatplane

Hey bro, i must say i prefer flat-plane sounds because i prefer even firing engines in general. So, its common to like flatplane than crossplane? i feel strange for choice a different thing from majority. I like crossplane too, but since my childhood i prefer screamers (even firing) than odd (uneven). And for some reason i get mad and sad watching all these comments saying that Flatplane sucks, or sounds like a fart can honda, cause i really like it. And it can be simillar, cause a sound from engine is predominant made by banks, but in live is different, V8 flat sounds brute and much more agressive than a "mortorcycle engine". So, i feel sick every time that i see people degenerating flat V8, cause i have a real love for it. My wet dream is a Ferrari Italia or McLaren 720S.
@mcrichton466 жыл бұрын

It's better to think of the sound in terms of exhaust pulses. The resolution of sound (kind of like the bitrate) is determined by # of cylinders x rpm. Smoothness and continuity of sound is determined by how organized (evenly spaced) the pulses are when they leave the exhaust , which is a result of the exhaust system design. Other acoustic properties are caused by # of exhaust valves , shape of combustion chamber , displacement of each cylinder , mufflers/resonators, and exhaust tip.

The Vudu is by far the best sounding. Most flat planes sound like vacuum cleaners. The GT350 sounds like a wildcat.

it supposed to be VRH35L instead of VHR35L i just got mind blown by the fact that McLaren engines are based on the Nissan R390 engine
@valentinotarona82947 жыл бұрын
Although it was based on it, the McLaren motor is 95% new and the motor was made with a partnership with the engineering company Ricardo

It's just probably cheaper to buy some available design rather than making new design and getting sued.

Adryan Prakarsa All the McLaren engines apart from the BMW in the f1 are based of the Nissan VRH R390 Le mans car engine, some just have a bigger displacement, but even though the engine was used in the Nissan R390, its not actually a Nissan developed engine, a race engineering company called T.W.R designed and built the engine in england, they used to build all Nissan's race engines and race car's ,they owned the rights to the engine and they sold it to McLaren, who then further developed it with Ricardo. kzbin.info/www/bejne/b3O5kIKLr8yMnZo&ab_channel=DRIVETRIBE

Correction: The Maserati/Ferrari F136 V8 is a cross plane V8. Ferrari produced the blocks for Maserati and Alfa Romeo. This was the same engine (block) used in the F430 and 458.

With the exception of the Mustang and Ferrari, they all sound like 4’s or 6’s! Doesn’t matter to me how much power they put out. I want to hear a roar when I hit the gas!😛

Looks like Hayabusa bike engines are popularly plagarized for powerful modifications... China should copy that engine and sell V8's on ebay and call them KITTYBUSA !
