If you have had your eyes tested by an optician and specialist and have no immediate cause for visual snow, being in hyper-alert mode or fight or flight may be the cause for this. When we are running on adrenaline and live in a constant state of anxiety or fear the way we see becomes hyper-acute. This means we can see flickering, floaters, blood corpuscles moving across the visual field. Normally we would not see this as it would not be important enough to notice. Just like tinnitus is hearing too acutely, visual snow can be seeing too acutely.

It's strange how it works. I woke up one night after a panick attack and everything was glowing white. Breathing for 20 minutes to relax and it went away. I think visual snow has something to do with anxiety for sure. Doesn't necessarily mean you have it as it's very rare but it means your eyes are taking in more light for a sense of danger.

After watching your videos and understanding how to treat my cpps (which is very similar to treating tinnitus). I came to the conclusion that my visual snow was very much this hyper activated state. There is a visual snow group I did visit in the past (now I avoid it for the most part) - and recently I wrote a post influenced by what you have been saying, suggesting that we are in fight and flight mode. A Harvard university schooled gentleman came out with a post that basically said "this is hogwash". I let it go and did not argue against anything he said. What I would like to do is provide you with the research that is on visual snow at the moment. And to hear any additional thought (or more importantly feelings) you might have on the matter. For the record visual snow is a lot more than just floaters, it's deep visual static, shimmering, after images, colour changes, and about 90 other symptoms. Most of which are happening at all times. As for me, I'm certain my cpps, visual snow, and tinnitus are conditions born from this hyper activated state. In fact, I believe other people with my three conditions should really consider your advice.

I do have the same symptoms that you are mentioning in the video. Sometimes they are less visible sometimes a lot more visible.tinnitus and the flickering dots and all that with the Floaters. I wish and can do more CranioSacral Therapy but I live in Chicago and am the only provider and those therapies are very expansive here . Cheers to everyone

Its going to sound stupid to sufferers of visual snow because I remember how disturbing it was for the first few years but I've had it for a decade now and I've even grown to enjoy it. It came on as white noise along with flashing streaks across my vision and seeing veinlike structures in my eyes. The lights streaking and the veinlike structures calmed down and I've only seen them a few times in the last 7 or 8 years and its stabilised into the snow, auras with beams coming off them around bright objects and strong afterimages. If I walk around at night, the auras and beams dance around and become quite attractive and playful. If they developed a cure for it tomorrow, I'm honestly not sure if I would take it because I think I might miss all the effects, it wouldn't feel right. It's become a non-issue. The doctors couldnt find anything wrong after many visits and hours of tests at the hospital, but I was lucky that one of the doctors knew about Visual Snow, diagnosed me with it and reassured me that its not a threat to my eyesight. (I could do without the tinnitus I later developed though, but I'm making progress with dealing with a recent spike thanks to your videos, it's no longer a Tyrant at least. I've been through good years where tinnitus was only a mild irritation so I know its possible. It does seem like a lot of VS sufferers also have tinnitus) Thanks for your good work.

@@lucymunoz3479 Still got visual snow, there hasn't been any change that I've noticed since writing that comment but then again I barely even consciously think about it these days so who knows, I don't even bother enjoying it these days just because its not something I consciously take notice of. The tinnitus is still there, it backed off a bit and comes and goes with its intensity but I get to listen to music and enjoy a music hobby even when I've stressed my body out and it gets bad. I think at the time I wrote this comment I was questioning how much I would still be able to enjoy music but its surprising how things can change. I've not been particularly rigorous with following anyones advice long term.

Hi Julian could you share tips on how you calmed yourself down and stopped experiencing visual snow? Either videos or therapies that could help? Everything you are saying makes sense and I also want to get to the point where I am no longer seeing this. I developed visual snow after getting very anxious because of tinnitus and then looking up visual snow online and convincing myself I had it/ constantly thinking about it. Your help in terms of recommendations is greatly appreciated.

Calming and settling the nervous system is the most important thing. De-stressing the eyes helps. You could watch this video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/nWitgGOcaNdngKc and then having calming hands-on body work that brings you out of fight or flight helps too alongside gentle yoga tai chi etc that you can practice yourself. If you would like more support please get in touch here: info@juliancowanhill.co.uk and we can set up a skype session. People with tinnitus often experience hypersensitive vision too and the same techniques for tinnitus help this calm down. You can see techniques on my app called QUIETEN. www.quietenapp.com/

Great video--I have VS and severe anxiety. The connection is interesting. I don't have floaters, but I do see a multi-colored static field overlaying my entire field of vision. If a single grain of sand were to be divided into 50-100 smaller pieces everywhere. It appears to be multicolored for me and is very visible on black and white backgrounds. I think I've always had it--and some people explain what I'm seeing is the static and residual energies of our planet, which blankets all around us all the time. But the idea of anxiety fueling my ability to focus on things like VS is compelling.
