Hi, some Magnesium advice please. I had a very low blood serum D3 level of 21 a year ago. My doc put me on 10,000 IU D3 daily, tabs that I crush with my teeth & absorb under my tongue. Most recent serum D3 level was in the mid-40s, and I'm continuing the 10,000 IUs D3. With the high D3 intake, I understand I need Magnesium in order to minimize kidney stones. Unfortunately I am poor & must rely on my insurance to cover costs, and oxide is the only Mg form that is covered. Knowing that oxide isn't a more absorbable form as others, how much Mg Oxide should be taken to have the same absorbable equivalent as 400 mg of Mg Glycinate?

Occasional testing and deciding on the maintenance dose is the only answer. Taking the tablet with fat only gives good results and hyper vitaminosis gives unexplained troubles which is often difficult to diagnose. The function of magnesium in conversion of vitamin d to its active form is the highlight of this message. Thank you Sir.

@@chinookvalley you will not get enough UVB the sun has to be at a certain point and you have to pretty much get naked and be in the sun 30 mins. In the winter time you will never absorb any Vitmain D. Supplementing is the best option. Magnesium is so helpful. I filled up with in 2 weeks and reached 60ng/ml within a month. Between Jan I was at 33 ng and Nov I only got up to around 40ng/ml because I didn’t take magnesium. I also take K2. Once you know how much your level is there is a calculated how much you can take within 10-30 days and then it tells you once you reached it how much is your regular intake. I currently take 20000 a day and I’m actually suppsoe to take 40000 iE.

For magnesium, I was on the higher end of the spectrum (bloodwork) - even if I don't supplement. For Vit-K1 and K2, I trust a varied, rich and fresh whole food diet (with some fish and yogurt) to give me everything - except Vit-D - the sunshine based hormone. For what I understand, Vit-K1 come in parts of plant that are active in photosynthesis - and the body converts (via gut bacteria) K1 to K2. So healthy gut bacteria is central to get optimal benefit from the good things one eats.

There are many different forms of this mineral. Magnesium oxide, for instance, is a common one and is cheap, BUT it's like asking your body to dissolve frigging rocks!! Try to get one that says it is bio-available. It will probably say it is chealeted. If they're fat soluble take them with a fatty food, such as butter, milk or olive oil. Zinc and other trace minerals can have a tard time being taken up if taken with fatty meals so better to take them separately with a glass of water and an apple. (Apples are high in Quercetin which helps increase Zinc uptake)

Heartburn- I've been taking Vit D for the last year- and lately doing Magnesium before bed- and it seems to help sleep. I've rarely had heartburn in my lifetime, but lately it has been pretty harsh. I wonder if it's from the MAG, or just from the extra Vitamin loads I've been adding.

@gaborszabo5561
@gaborszabo5561 2 жыл бұрын
Aldo, most of the times taking vitamin D3 quickly depletes your magnesium reserves and can cause the symptoms of a full blown magnesium deficiency. Palpitations is one of those hallmark magnesium deficiency symptoms. Give D3 a try paired with some good quality easy to absorb magnesium supplement (Mg chelate or bisglycinate).

@ewawiman9007

@Aldo S I would suggest that you pair your Vitamin D3 together with Magnesium and K2 and Potassium. You should take variants that are ending in -ate and those variants has good bioavailabilty and good absorbtion. Magnesiumcitrate is really good and has good bioavailabilty. Per each 10 000 IU D3 you should take 100 mg of K2. Both variants Vitamin K helps to push excess Calcium out of your blood to among other places the skeleton. But K2 is doing the better job. You can try larger doses of Magnesium your body will react to a too large dose with diahorrea, runny feaces. It will stop more or less as soon as you lower th dose. You should add Potassium(citrate) to the mix. You can take up 4700 mg Potassium per day. Try to get the majority of your Potassium via leafy green vegetables and avokado as food. I live far North in Scandinavia and have dark winter and I am both diabetic and have alletgies and asthma. I take upwards 800-900 mg Magnesiumcitrate and roughly the same amount of Potassiumcitrate, 100 mg K2 and wintertime 15 000 IU D3 and summertime 6-10 000 IU D3. The D3 I take made from vegan source of lav (Swedish). The brand is Helhetshälsa. I suspect that your reactions to the D3 variants was some kind of allergic reaction since most D3 is made from sheep wools fat. I am allergic to that D3. So that is why I am using the vegan D3. I am a type 2 diabetic and I have gotten good help to find this mix from my ND and I have verified it by reading a lot and gaining more knowledge from the KZbin-channels of Dr Sten Ekberg and Dr Eric Berg. Both are good at explaining and do informative videos. Good Luck.
