Whoop! Thank you so much for trying our ramen! We’re just a small company of just over 10 people trying to make the instant ramen of our dreams: something we can eat every day without feeling guilty! It looks like you’re trying our first v1.0 packets; we’ve done some major reworkings of the recipe since then and have come out with a brand new v1.1 recipe! We’d love to send some over so you can try them out and let us know how you like it compared to the v1.0 you’ve just tried :) Also to answer a couple of your questions! The canola oil is there currently as a nutritional consideration to balance the macronutrient content, introduce ALA omega 3 to the overall package and to help increase absorption of the fat soluble vitamins. We’re definitely working on including functional AND tasty oils in future versions though! The packaging is pretty basic right now because, well, we’re just a startup! For us it’s a fine balance between maintaining living wages for our employees, manufacturing in the US and getting to do cute graphic on our packaging; it’s more important for us to make sure we stick to our values first before printing graphics! We’re constantly working on new improvements to our ramen, so we’d love to see what you think! There may be a spicy one coming up in the future, so stay tuned! ;) Oh, and if anyone has any questions about the ramen, we'll be hanging around to answer them! - Tom

MSG is an sodium form of an amino acid from broken down proteins. Yeast extract is broken down yeast cells and on of the main amino acids is MSG. Natural vs not is debatable. MSG can come from many sources. If you think the acid hydrolysis and neutralization with lye, of beer byproduct is natural, good for you. I’ll take the MSG which can naturally crystallizes from kelp over some mystery yeasty concoction.

Yeast extracts are the remnants of yeast cells without their cell wall. They contain a ton of free glutamates(an amino acid), when dried MSG. MSG is just the salt, and thus solid stable, form for glutamate. MSG when sold as such is most likely extracted from kelp by boiling it in water and letting it crystalize(a step past making dashi broth) or made by fermenting starch or other sugars. MSG and the free glutamates in food (IE: soy, kelp, tomatoes, cheese) are metabolically indistinguishable, meaning we process them the exact same.

I helped fund the kickstarter for these noodles because I loved the concept. The canola oil is just that; plain canola oil, because a lot of the vitamins in the noodtrient packet are fat soluble. When I do make these (I got the same style of noodles you have in this video from the original kickstarter) I end up adding my own chili oil and a dash of extra soy sauce. I so know what you mean about them not having the same texture or bite as regular instant noodles, but personally, I'm willing to make that sacrifice to feel like I'm actually eating something GOOD for me, especially when I'm too depressed to cook "real" food :"D Sometimes you just gotta get some food in your face, and I'd rather reach for these than top ramen.
@SilvaDreams5 жыл бұрын
You can essentially just take a multivitamin crush it up, toss it in and get the same effect without the extra price. (Actually it likely is better) And adding stuff to ramen is kind of normal. I add onions, garlic, maybe a bit of meat (Don't need soy sauce it is normally salty enough)... It's not what I would call innovative because all my ramens come with little packs of dehydrated veg and have for 20 years..... Now if we're talking dirt cheap 50cent packs... yeah those are just some flavoring which is mostly salt and that is it.

We don't use preservatives, don't deep fry, and lowered the sodium to be in line with the rest of the nutrients! Looks like 25% on the nutrition label, but won't actually absorb into your body! We use magnesium citrate instead, and the rest of our vitamins and minerals get just as much care! Yeast extract encompasses a lot of things - lots of strains of yeast can produce many nutrients and flavoring compounds that food manufacturers want, and some yeasts can produce glutamic acid, an essential amino acid that, when bound chemically to a sodium atom, makes mono-sodium glutamate, or MSG. Nearly all savoury foods contain glutamic acid, as it's an essential amino acid that gives food that 'meaty' 'umami' flavour, but it's naturally present in nearly all vegetables in some capacity, and all complete protein sources. MSG was once wrongly blamed for a feeling of unwellness that people had after eating Chinese food, as some questionably racially motivated 'researchers' warned people against eating Chinese food, despite all cuisines utilising the umami flavour of MSG (particularly in italian food which uses a lot of tomatoes). It is more recently concluded that people may feel unwell after eating Chinese food because of the high salt content of take-out meals, and there has been no reliable study concluding that adverse reactions in the amounts used in foods can happen beyond the placebo effect. (This is unsurprising as glutamic acid is an 'essential' amino acid, meaning we need to eat it to survive because we can't make it ourselves, so if someone were unable to eat glutamic acid, which is what MSG will break into when dissolved in water, they would not be able to live very long at all) Sources: www.everydayhealth.com/allergy/does-msg-allergy-really-exist.aspx kzbin.info/www/bejne/fXbcfKB3fdykopY

Emmy, I have always loved you but this video? My love for you tripled ... you made that sweet girl's day. Not sure how old you are .. figure you are close to my son's age maybe older. He just turned 29. Thank you for being an awesome woman. I love your bee keeping. I was raised on a farm with a 2 acre garden. It's fabulous to see you enjoying older recipes. Thank you for being you!!

Not to be pedantic: 1. Yeast extract contains glutamates, but fewer than MSG. It also adds flavor (MSG is flavorless). 2. A complete protein is one with all the nine essential amino acids (not B-vitamins).

Hi! Greek person here. The plural of "octopus" is actually supposed to be "octopodes", but english-speakers just say "octopuses" or "octopi", so technically you could use all three; "octopodes" if you want to stay true to greek grammar and "octopuses"/"octopi" if you want to stay true to english grammar. On the other hand, "Pegasus" was the name of a single individual rather than a species, so technically there is no plural form of that word. You can just say "winged horses" or even "pterippoi" (pte-ree-pee) if you need to refer to many winged horses.
@mayelaruggles47445 жыл бұрын
Fascinating! I'm going to start saying "octopodes"!
@GiraffeCubed35 жыл бұрын
I'm aware of the plural "octopodes", but how would you pronounce it? I've always said "ock-tow-podes", but I believe the pronunciation may be "ock-toh-poh-dees"?
@cktheone5 жыл бұрын
@@GiraffeCubed3 Either "ock-toh-poh-dees" or "ock-tah-poh-dees". The "toh" version is closer to the ancient greek pronunciation, while the "tah" version is closer to the modern greek.

I think I'll try these. Being a starving artist, one of my beloved simple pleasures is ramen noodles. Also going to the gym for workouts. So it follows that I like the high protein with these Vite Ramen noodles ... and I can measure out the packets to avoid too high sodium. Thanks Emmy!

Not a good idea. If she starts on TV, her youtube channel will die. It'll be replaced with snips from the TV show, ads and promos because she won't be allowed to post TV content online. This is what people wanted for Brave Wilderness and now cry that he never uploads anymore. Careful what you wish for.
@ferociousgumby5 жыл бұрын
There are no good cooking/food-related shows on TV any more. It has all gone over to competitions and Master Chef and all that garbage. I miss the old-style Julia Child "process" cooking on TV, where the chef's personality "made" the show, but it's never coming back. But that's why we have KZbin!
@MsDinesue5 жыл бұрын
I appreciate watching your honest review and that the Vite Ramen folks are in the comments section and paying attention. I haven't tried them but I'm looking forward to the MSG to be added. I don't know if I'd add the nutrient packet since I already take a multi, but I do like the idea of increased protein, especially since I try to eat mostly vegan.

If you are sensitive to MSG, then it is purely psychosomatic as your body naturally produces glutamate. True story, the reason people think MSG is bad for you is because some dude in the sixties or seventies wrote an article blaming MSG in Chinese food for making him ill. How the guy was able to single out and blame that one ingredient is beyond me. Myles Powers has an excellent video explaining MSG and it's history of misconceptions here on KZbin. Worth a watch.

Totally understand! People freak out over stupid things. If I told someone sodium bicarbonate was a food additive and an excellent corrosive chemical and was used in popular cleaning products they would flip their shit... until I told them it was baking soda. Same goes with baking soda being considered a "natural" ingredient in food... where does it come from? Well. Its found in great basins. But we dont filter for that. And its mined out of trona, but that's difficult too because its impure so there is lots of filtering and refining we have to do. So the easiest way to make it is, we shove carbon dioxide and ammonia through table salt to make it. Sounds dangerous right? Those are two very poisonous things mixed with salt.... nah, totally safe baking soda... Science for the win!!!!

I've been watching your KZbin channel for a few months now off and on. I love your calming easygoing voice and style of giving over whatever you do and say. Many of your recipes are foods I do not eat because I eat kosher, however I find myself gleaning lots of information from your vlogs. Also, I live alone, 57 years old and due to various side medical issues because of fibromyalgia, I do not enjoy cooking/baking for myself. I am very fortunate that I have neighbors and friends who know about my health and living situation, so these friends actually try to save me from their food if leftover and not enough for them to serve again for another meal for anyone in their home. They either send me the food/or I go to their home to fetch it. Oftentimes the friends will save the food leftovers in a sandwich bag that the amount of food fit in (I really dislike returning containers and prefer plastic bag that I can easily dispose of), and when a plastic grocery sized is full of little baggies, my friends contact me and we arrange a time slot for a pick-up/give to me. Stickers: I think I still have some of my stickers from when I was a girl and teenager growing up in the 70's. Thanks for your vlogs. Blessings, love and prayers, from Israel

Then what kind of animal is Pegasus?
@hazelsong4015 жыл бұрын
Becca Riley you’re kinda right. Pegasus was the only winged horse in Greek Mythology which was where the name originated from. It’s now used as a name for all horses with wings 😊
@sweetpjeb235 жыл бұрын
Brian Ortiz I was wondering that, too. King Kong is a giant ape. Chewbacca is a Wookiee. So what’s Pegasus?

Yeah, now pegasus is commonly used as a generic name for all winged horses, but it's kind of a hack.
