This is a masterpiece of writing and what everyone should aspire to. Notice the subtlety of this one line, that tells you everything you need to know: "This is my wife. I have a wife now." This is explaining to the audience everything about Alan's character in one sentence. We learn a vast amount, particularly that that is Alan's wife, and that Alan has a wife now.

oh and so much more - Rowan and Adam were not invited to the wedding nor even informed about the marriage, so they're no longer considered friends - marriage, especially in this setting, strongly indicates that Allan has chosen and come to terms with his destiny: living and dying on the farm - not giving away her name makes her character seem irrelevant, it's about the status and implications of being married
