Rae and Ghost proved to have the ear and the heart of the fans through the later years of the Wu. Their consistency with albums, and the content, production, etc.. far better than what RZA started to come with. Wu fans didn’t care about Russell Crowe playing violin, or the extra experimentation. Shaolin vs Wu-Tang was fire. Cuban Linx 2. Apollo Kids. 12 Reasons. Fishscale. 36 Seasons. Wu Massacre. They really held dooown the Wu discography. GZA and Meth had a few gems here and there, but, Rae and especially Ghost have been the anchor.

Rae admits that Immobility and Lex Diamond were subpar, which is why he had so much pressure when he made OB4CL2. He was literally at a point where his solo career was not looking good. Now Ghost on the other hand, is easily the most consistent member of the group.

Wu Tang is the pin post of why groups rarely have longevity in Hip Hop. Too much ego's, too much bitching, too much holding shit inside. I tried to be a leader of a group on a LOCAL level far as musically and that shit was a HEADACHE and it was only 5 fucking members and only 4 rapped. But people get lazy, complacent, want a voice in things they have absolutely ZERO experience in. It's just a very tough situation because people are never really on the SAME page. Like you can't expect to be just a rapper and expect extra income outside of what your job is, people want a slice as the people who is actually running the label, managing the artists, booking shows and tours for the artist, running MERCH, ENGINEERING THE SESSIONS. I can be the lead member of the group who rap as well as do the managing, booking, merchandise and engineering and you will have people who just show up to rap verses and hear themselves expecting YOUR CUT. It's honestly such a ridiculous mindset to have if you ONLY JUST RAP...if you want more money CONTRIBUTE MORE TO THE SUCCESS

This is always a tough topic. I've been reading up a lot on the story behind Wu Tang lately and I definitely see both sides. Divine and RZA never would've achieved what they have without the rest of the group but at the same time they really had to do a lot of the work in the beginning. Most of the members made it as hard as possible and Power, RZA and Divine seem like they held it all together to lead them to success.

Rae is 100 % right about those albums. As a long time wu fan since 93 I honestly been really let down by the last few wu albums. The saga continues was cool as far as production goes and a few songs was hitting but it just wasn't what I know these brothers are capable of. I dont feel the a better tomorrow album at all. I damn near hate it. Since it dropped I probably listened to it 3 time total till this day. That album was not the wu tang clan I signed up for in 93. Rza is a legend And the Abbott but he shouldn't be to egotistical that he isn't listening to his team. Yes you spearheaded this wu-tang thing but let's not forget what makes wu-tang special that being 9 different men coming together to form voltron. R.i.p. to odb.

While I agree to a point, Wu definitely isn't the same, I don't agree with Rae 100% either. Because it's not like Shaolin vs Wu was so great either, nor did it really have that same style or feel. It sounded more like the albums before 8 Diagrams that he's complaining about. And it's not like any of the Wu members really have matched their old selves, exceptions being occasional Ghost or Meth, and actually Masta Killa's star shined a bit later than the rest. If I'm being 100, you could tell Rae's energy hasn't even been the same since Wu Forever. Not to say he hasn't made great songs and good albums, but you can even hear it in his voice, in his lyrics, in his demeanor, he doesn't have that same hunger. You could tell it's taken a lot of out of him and he's tired. Too much pride and drama between so many members makes it hard to function as a group, as much as they try. They would really all need to swallow their pride - ALL of them - and actually come together as a unit. But even then, their minds aren't where they were, and music isn't the same thing that it was almost 30 years ago. Wish it wasn't the case but sadly it seems true.
@christopher399

The only reason why I don't consider Wu Tang the best, is because I don't think they have as strong catalogue as other groups do. 36 Chambers is amazing, yes... But what about all of the albums that came out after that? As a group, they weren't able to keep up the quality. I disagree with the notion that Wu Tang in 2021 should be the same as Wu Tang in 1993 though. It would be boring as hell if they made the same music for three decades. I encourage artists to push the limits and try new things.
@Zenno5
@Zenno5 3 жыл бұрын
@@christopher399 oh definitely. I just mean you can tell the hunger and energy was lost along the line somewhere. Which happens to most artists, to be fair. I just think in context of Raes comments, it sounds like even in his own upset he had been reaching for the old sound that he hadn't been able to attain outside of wu either. I honestly put shaolin VS wu right next to the other wu albums that came out in that time period. Not better nor worse.
@christopher399
@christopher399 3 жыл бұрын
@@Zenno5 Plenty of artists manage to make quality music for decades. I don't think Wu Tang is among them... But members of Wu Tang are though. Ghostface Killah has been making pretty strong music for decades. Inspectah Makes good music with Czarface, but I don't think I'd care too much if it hadn't been for Czarface. I think that group brought him back to form. Method Man is ok, but I don't think he makes very good music. It's surprising. If anyone would've had a thriving solo career in Wu, I would've thought it was him. He just doesn't seem to be able to put together all that interesting albums, and his flow is ... It's ok now. He no longer uses that singing/rapping flow that made him so unique. U-God has picked up his pace too, these last few years. Raekwon was always the most boring to me, but if you liked him in the 90's, you'll like him now. Masta Killah has slowed his flow waaaaay too much for my taste. I feel myself dozing off whenever he raps. I wish he'd speed up his flow again. He has a good voice. RZA has been inactive as a rapper, but he never disappoints when he raps. I'm thrilled to see he is back to releasing new solo music again. I wish GZA did the same. He sounded like he was falling asleep on Pro Tools, but he's got his energy back again. Overall, I think Ghostface Killah has had a pretty strong solo career. He may have a few duds here and there, but then he'll return with a new album that is just awesome. He knows how to put together good albums. He is also not afraid of trying new things. If I had a say, I'd tell them to just forget Wu Tang and focus on making solo music. (And in Method Man's case... Maybe get someone onboard who knows how to put together a good album.) I'm actually a fan, by the way. I just don't blindly love everything they do. Call it tough love from a big fan. I've actually met several Wu members and affiliates! I have a few signed stuff from them, including Method Man and Masta Killa, who I give the toughest love to 🤣 I just want them to make good music! They have the talent for it. But they're not working together as a group, so just disband and focus on solo stuff. Maybe do a few Wu shows every now and then, but they are obviously not in the right place to make group music.
@spiderant00
@spiderant00 3 жыл бұрын
@@christopher399 just to add some clarification I don't expect them to be the exactly the same as in 93 because that would be impossible. They are older now and don't have that same youthful energy, drive and hunger they had 30. years ago. In order to have longevity Artists definitely have to change and evolve with the times but I think its also vital to keep certain aspects in place that captured long time fans those many years ago. Jay z is the perfect example of this. Jay still have that classic braggadocious, witty hustler Jay z energy but at the same time he still shows growth and maturity. I get where rza was coming from in wanting to make a more mature album i just think they missed the mark. Some words that comes to my mind when I think of early wu-tang is originality, creativity ,versatility, street and RAW. its nothing wrong with experimenting and adapting but it's still got to be raw and potent. That's wu-tang to me. If they don't have it in them like that anymore then I rather them not make an album over making a weak album any day. It would be dope if they could come together one last time and give the world a classic.

Rza & Divine had a global idea of what they wanted to make the moniker/brand Wu-Tang… the business. Power supported that vision. However after developing “Wu-Tang” into a successful business model, and production company…. As far as the hip-hop Supergroup you’re dealing with fuckin’ Rock stars who are sensitive about their shit, not corporate executives. What WE must keep in mind is…aside from that Hulu special…. The Legacy of Wu-Tang/Shaolin was not just those original 9 (10) members. It was Poppa Wu, Cappadonna, Killarmy, Killa Sin, 9th Prince, Timbo King, Hellrazah, Killa Priest, Gravediggaz, Grym Reaper (Poetic R.I.P.), Prince Paul, Old Dirty Bastard (Osiris R.I.P.), Sunz of Man, Wu Syndicate, Shyheim, GP Wu, 4th Disciple, True Master, Allah Mathematics, Bronze Nazareth, Mook,Black Knights of the North Star, etc. …The Entire Movement Much more than just The Clan.
