Great reply to the complainer! Let's also make the point that reseller are helping with recycling so to speak. Approximately 90 million pounds of clothing, etc ends up in landfills every year! I'm so sorry you got that feedback on your video. That is NOT the purpose of a thrift store. The purpose of a thrift store is to sell donated goods to SUPPORT their programs, not to provide goods to people. If that were the mission, you would show proof of income to shop. So if you bought the items at a garage sale instead, is it any different? The store is getting what they want for the item, you are getting items to source, your buyer is getting an item they want, less waste in the landfill....win, win all around in my book.

Yes, large handbags, duffle bags and totes can be challenging. For duffle bags and totes, I lay them out as flat as I can on a piece of study cardboard for support. Wrap in large bubble wrap and then open up a large polymailer. If it doesn't slip in the bag, I cut the bag open and wrap/tape it around the bubble wrapped bag. Thank you!

Wonderful to see Mark is healing. Good work being the chauffeur around town, Vickie! I absolutely never understand the "you're taking items away from those in need" comments. Just as you pointed out, the Goodwill type thrifts stores now try to catch the better items and list them themselves. Guess where they learned that trick? Yes, from resellers! Their profits are now higher because of it. Many resellers support their families entirely with the hard work of this business. It's not easy because the entire cycle of buying, cleaning, photographing, research, and listing is a ton to do. Then comes the packing, shipping, and post office drop-off. I admire my fellow resellers, and I enjoy people who work hard and are enterprising. From the smallest new seller to those who have made it big. Your videos make an impact on me because I see that cycle of hard work each time you post! The negative feedback you received was absurd and actually got me giggling because I thought of the Ginsu knives TV ads. Pro tip for this person, just use scissors! 😂 All the best to you, and thanks for your honesty about the day to day craziness that sometimes occurs in this community.

I understand your feelings, but Goodwill has a more specific goal, which is job training and education, not supplying the public with low-cost items. If you read their mission and vision statements, that is pretty plain. Also, I have seen people buy armloads of things to provide for others and not to resell, so unless you asked her what she was doing with her purchase, you may have it wrong. St. Vincent de Paul, for example, approaches things much differently at their thrift locations. They have great programs for those in need that allow them to shop for needed items at no cost. Goodwill is not that place.

So sorry that you had to deal with one of “those” buyers who can never be made happy unless they can get something for nothing. I had one as well a couple of years ago that wasn’t happy that they didn’t receive a cheap Dollar Tree easel that I was displaying a vanity tray in on my listing. Never occurred to me to mention that the tiny easel was not to be included. It’s a vanity tray! As a result, I got dinged for “not as advertised “. Needless to say, ever since I state that “easel for display only”. Ugh.

Interesting reality on so many fronts you’ve faced. I love that I get to be surrounded (yes, even in KZbin) by people who soar like eagles and will lift others up not live in a scarcity mentality but an abundance mentality! I am a GRATEFUL reseller. We do not depend on others to make things happen! We recycle, renew, and repurpose what is in our environment. We FILL NEEDS of buyers. And, we financially provide for OUR family! We’ve been quite poor - by helping financially supporting an older generation that didn’t prepare for their needs and I promise you we STRUGGLED - and not ONE organization (that resells under the disguise of helping the community) EVER assisted us! God provides seed for the birds - but he doesn’t feed them directly! Well, we have been provided with “seed” in reselling and we are WORKING with that in action! Woohoo to you both as well!!

I follow several resellers on KZbin and one of them (I won’t name her) gets negative comments all the time, on almost every single video she puts out. No matter how many times she (and her followers) try to explain reselling like you did, some people will just never get it. Don’t let it get you down.

Negative comments to a reseller KZbinr is paramount to negative comments on the reselling platforms. My take, is the complainers can start their own KZbin channels. They don't deserve to ride off of someone else's channel to spew their negative comments. It's a lot of time, effort and energy to make and publish videos. BLOCK. Thank you!

I lean towards they just like to bloviate on how much they know about everything. I've never said or portrayed that my way is the only right way. There's 100 ways to do the same thing. I just share how I pack(ed) it. My thoughts are....start your own KZbin channel if you have so much to share. With that said, they ALWAYS have to have the last word. Guaranteed, no matter what you say in response, they WILL get the last word in. That's when the convo stops. BLOCK, delete, whatever it takes to get them out of our hair, LOL. This happened to me...kind of.....I got the negative feedback removed. The buyer violated many policies in messages to me.....threatening, wanting a refund without involving Ebay, and then cursing and calling me a liar. He opened a return, did return the item, damaged, and left nasty feedback. I commented on his negative feedback, reported him, blocked him.....several months later the feedback was gone. Keep on going girl.

This is very interesting.The knife set was certainly purchased by a foreign entity, given the poor command of the English language. You are not the only reseller who has suffered the same issue recently. Sure looks like folks are being targeted. Keep up the good work. The knife buyers don't understand how knives work. Any knife that can get sharpened gets sharpened often by the owner on a knife steel and then sent out for professional sharpening as needed. I thought your response to their original question was perfect.

I just received my first negative in 25 years - basically around when eBay started. "Gave" the buyer the jacket - am paying for the alteration (even though listing gave the length in inches) and still no revision to the negative comment. Sent pic of the return label receipt which she said she didn't receive. Very distressed and heart broken. Well, as the Presbyterians would say "thank the Lord that's over"!

My heart goes out to you because I know how difficult it is to receive negative feedback when you work so hard to take care of your buyers. Some people just can’t be pleased no matter what. I hope you will consider leaving feedback to their negative as I did. Word it carefully and don’t hesitate to direct buyers to your positive feedback from the thousands of satisfied customers over the 25 years you’ve been selling. It’s not over until you say it’s over. I work for a logistics company. We ship 20,000 lb containers from goodwill, unsold items they are getting rid of. Go to your local thrift and ak them what they do with the unsold. The answer is unethical when they could just GIVE the items to the poor.

Wow! Our local GW told us that the clothes get "shipped to other countries" for use (donation). I've watched videos on the clothing received by these "other countries" and even when bundles of "better" clothes are purchased, they have to discard most of it in the "landfill." I was 100% thinking the same thing 😂 Some try to resell with the expectations that’s it’s all fun and shopping, but end up finding out real quick that it is so much more than that. It’s a 24/7 job and it requires a tremendous amount of self discipline, dedication, and the willingness to keep learning, with little profit at times. When they end up finding this out, they have a big change of heart about the subject, and jealousy rears it’s ugly head towards others that keep pushing ahead through the challenges of reselling.

Great response to the viewer that made the ignorant comment regarding resellers buying from thrift stores. I am glad to see you left it up and responded accordingly. There are so many content creators who won't allow any comments that contain an iota of negativity. I think they are just hurting their channel. A very successful You Tuber that I watch leaves his negative comments and responds to them accordingly. He says it helps his channel. Of course there are limitations (bad language for example).

I don't always let negative comments stay and I do not hesitate to block viewers who just come to judge, not support. I look at it this way, if they don't like how we run our ebay business or the videos I make, they can start their own KZbin channel. One-off commenters often just want to bloviate. I'm not going to give them a platform to be rude, judgmental or condescending to the hosts (us). In this video, I shared it to take a stand for ALL resellers. Reselling and video making takes a humongous amount of time, energy and effort. Thank you Michelle!

I just returned from the Salvation Army "as is" store which is where the move something out of their stores and put into a big warehouse. I have found several things that would probably end up in a landfill otherwise. I really enjoy watching your journey and videos and challenges you have along the way.

Hi Vickie and Mark. Happy to see the surgery was a success and you are healing. I originally started as a buyer on eBay because I did not have the time to source the antique items I wanted for the log cabin we built. I was working at least 70 hours a week and was not home for a month at a time. I still buy items on eBay because I can find new items for less. The last item I bought was a new pair of shoes. The shoes were 50% off the retail price. Last spring I bought some body butter that has been discontinued for a decade. It’s a scent I absolutely love. I paid up for it but did so willingly because it’s extremely difficult to find. I’m thankful for these sellers because they had something I needed or wanted to treat myself. Items I may never find while I’m out sourcing. I also want to support other eBay sellers. It’s to bad that negative person does not understand that we as sellers are finding items that our buyers have been looking for. I’ve had so many positive feedbacks from buyers that had been looking for something for quite awhile. For example, a treetop angel. The buyer had been looking for a very long time to buy for his Mom. He said she was “over the moon happy”. 😊 We are also keeping things out of landfills. I doubt this negative person understands what some resell stores do with their leftovers. If she knew maybe she would not be so angry and insulting. So sorry you had a unwarranted negative feedback. I know how hard both of you work and how much you care about your buyers and the products you sell. Out of curiosity, Did you call eBay for a revision? Thanks for showing the shipping of the 6 items. I was stressing along with you. Using that size box, or anything at 36” I have to be sure there is no bowing due to shipping materials bringing the size of the box to oversize. I hope you made sure to add up how much the shipping materials cost prior to the shipping discount. I have been using a lot of boxes I’ve had to purchase since Ground Advantage started. I heard through the grapevine that USPS is going to have free Ground Advantage boxes in the future. Hope that’s true.

Thank you for sharing your story. A great reminder that sellers are buyers too AND we donate! I did not contact ebay in this case. I usually reach out to Facebook ebay for business. In this situation, I felt they the buyer worded their negative feedback quite carefully. Knowing, ebay reps and how they typically respond to such things, I expected to hear..."That's the buyer's opinion (experience)" and would not remove it. I decided to just respond to send a message to the buyer that sellers can reply to negative messages and that message is there for all to see as well. Thank you!

Regarding your buyer who gave you the negative about W Puck knives, your listing left no question about the sharpness of the knives! This buyer was obviously looking to get something for almost nothing. I would absolutely block her. She is a detriment to the whole reselling community. In my 10 years I have only blocked one, and she didn't even buy the Ralph Lauren scarf she was contacting me about. I don't understand why eBay didn't stand behind you about the feedback These days I have to search for your videos because there are so many that I've liked enough to subscribe to. Yours are the best and are what I love to see with my morning coffee or when I need a few "feel good" moments. I only wish my husband would join me in reselling the way you and Mark enjoy it together. He hates what I do because unlisted inventory often overtakes the space here. There are no basements in FL. Do you have any ideas on how to get help creating listings??

I didn't contact ebay about the feedback because I anticipated they would just reply with "That's the buyer's opinion" and let it stay. There's nothing I loathe more than calling ebay. LOL. Happy to hear you enjoy my videos Ann! As to help creating listings, I've shared tips here and there in videos on creating listings but not a video dedicated to it. My best advice is to photograph and list "like things" on the same day. I also create drafts (or sell one like this) when I buy something. That speeds things up a bit. Hope that helps and thank you!

I had a negative on eBay not long ago, also the first probably in 10 years.!Nothing was broken she paid the shipping as listed and decided to put a negative because I used too much packing and it should’ve gone for cheaper shipping.! Also I had used some shredded packaging material that was very useful and she complained that when she opened the box it was too messy! That she was afraid her dog would eat it and be poisoned and that I was a menace and a dangerous seller! I did take it up with eBay and thankfully they agreed with me and they removed her comment and negativity. I have blocked her obviously! I am back to 100% and it feels so good! I had a question, on the box let’s say that you just use the 16 x 12 x 8 or whatever it was listed on the bottom. Do you remeasure that box or do you go by the listed measurement? I sent a package UPS 12 x 12 x 12 listed on the box and the fellow measured it somewhere in the shipping line who knows where and decided one of them was over 12 and so I was charged a lot more for the package. just wondering. Thanks for all you do for us I have learned so much on how to pack from you!!

Yes, I've had a complaint once to about the packing material I used. I think I responded with something like, "Just like take-out at your favorite restaurant, you want to get it home safely and edible. I pack with what it takes for your purchase to arrive safely." It's impossible to please everyone, so you've got to please yourself with your packing. As to the box size, I write what the box size is when shipping. The tricky part is 12x12x12 because it's often the "inside" measurement. I write it on the shipping info anyway. So far, so good. Nothing has kicked back (yet). Thank you!

Wow, lots packed into that video! LOVED IT!! First, the large shipment brought back the horrors of having to do that myself a month ago. The sheer WORK of having to Tetris things into a box and then sweating through the shipping will stick with me a long while. Kudos to you for the effort and deserved positive feedback. Second: nasty commenters like that will always feel self-righteous, and I’m not surprised they ran after their comment. Resellers purchase what’s made available to them, and I promise the stores that sell it to us don’t cry over the money they make from us. Last: I’m sorry you got hit with a negative for a good faith purchase. When I get a message like that, the first thing I tell the person is that they would probably be happier buying brand new to ensure their satisfaction. I have a question about the need to ship things with priority mail because the buyer "chose" it. When I list something I usually list the shipping cost OR sometimes choose "calculated shipping" , not knowing if I may have to send it from FL to CA. When the item sells, I pack it well, and choose the shipping option that saves me the most and will arrive in the same time time frame. It may be ground advantage. I don't even look at what the buyer chose and have yet to have a complaint. Items arrive safely (thanks to your shipping tutorials) and I get great feedback from those who are inclined to leave feedback. No negatives here. Personally, when I place an order that arrives safely I don't even look to see if there is a G or a P on the label.Am I wrong in doing things this way?

I read and re-read your comment and here is my take on it. We can always "upgrade" to a higher/faster level of shipping. With that said, if a buyer pays for "Priority" or UPS or FedEx (if I offer those options), I would never change their choice of shipping (say to Ground Advantage). They paid for a certain service and should receive their package sent by that service. The only exception would be we underestimated the weight and we message them to see if we can ship via an alternative service. It may not have come back on you but it most certainly could at some point. We offer calculated shipping for both Priority AND Ground Advantage. I have a shipping policy set up and the buyer can choose their preferred option. I hope this helps. I can only give you my best opinion on this. Ultimately, it's up to you. Thanks Ann for asking!

I think you handled your situation perfectly with the customer. Hard to please everyone all the time. I remember the first time I got a bad review on my Etsy shop (Green Parrott Vintage). I actually think very few people are aware of what happens to all of the used clothing from the US and how it piles up in Third World countries and ends up in there landfills. I’ve watched several documentaries on it. It’s shocking. Many people just don’t understand sellers and reselling and therefore, can’t see any value in what we do. Thank you, Susan!

The stores are for everybody now there's a 7th day adventest church in my area that has a clothes closet thing that on their sign says free. I would not take that stuff, because you can tell it's for who it's for. Thrift stores and the everything else that falls in the reselling categories is for and has to be for everyone. I see homeless to millionaires in my stores and everyone inbetween. I leave negative comments up people in my comments usually eat the idiots alive.

I know that my response to the letter of that woman who was bubbling about resellers are robbers, would be a bit allegoric, but here it is. I once shared on a social media household forum that I have a cleaning lady come and clean my house. I had couple stupid responses, just like yours. One woman said, Shame on you! It's your house, your mess, your dust and dirt, why someone would come and clean after you? I never heard anything more stupid that that comment. I responded that Why Not? I am giving job to someone who was looking for exact that position, and contributing to our country's economy. See, some people have a brain of a worm, ignore those.

This is my very first day to watch you on KZbin. I was so enjoying your video until you read the comment from “The Karen”. I know this was two months ago. I just wanted to speak my piece. First of all. Resellers are not thrives. Or at least not all of them. People who have yard sales and sale things dirt cheap. Church yard sales, rummage sales, some thrift stores, auction houses. You noticed I didn’t say Goodwill and Salvation Army. Well there is a reason. Over the past few years both of these two places who are known to help out the under privileged families with more than just clothing, furniture and other home goods, have with some things gone up 400% or more. 1999, glassware .50, depending the name brand. 2024, as much as $2.99 depending on brand Yes, each one has its own sticker. At one time, everything on the same table, was the same price. Now you will have to sift through very carefully. Children’s clothing, 1999, onesies, .50 to $1 Again, depending on the name brand. Tee shirts/ shorts all name brands .50/1.00 Dresses $1.00. Boys pants.50 2024, All Oneies no matter the brand, $2.99 All children’s clothing, each piece. So a as eBay, I have only got good things to say. I was able to track down Most of my dad’s WWI and Korean War parches and badges.
