Anemones that do not multiply like rabbits are a definite keeper, this one I have watched for a few years. Had one rose that took over my 80 gallon tank with 20 babies.

Great video. Easy watching and to the point. About the anemone, I thought it was the 'bubbletip' that you had to watch out for roaming the tank and the Heteractis crispa was more of a stay put kind of anemone. I will have to re-think my reef tank stocking plan!!

All anemones can move at some point. There's none that I know that put down roots - but that would be great of course.

Love your selection of clowns a variety not always showcased. I too like halides. Just a preference. Currently not using my two 250 watt fixtures but when i upgrade to a larger tank they will be going back on

Lol I have never had a tank of my own, I always thought anemones and other corals sort of latched on to rocks and such and I didn't think they could just be moved like that

This one was attached to a rock I was moving in the video. Since filming it, it has since climbed off of it... the saga continues.

it's always a trade off between benefits and losses. so far i guess the reef like environment with corals, fish, anenmones etc. pays off. i would keep it as long as possible.

Good video I was wondering what kind of anemone is that. Sorry about my spelling
@josephhathaway11516 жыл бұрын
Sebae, it says in the video description
@benjaminn26746 жыл бұрын
Could be referred to as 'Heteractis crispa' if you are interested in the scientific name. 'Sebae' is American terminology I believe.

I have heard that some anemones are very difficult to keep and should just be left alone. I have kept bubble tips in the past with very good luck to where they had hey divided, Is the Seabae a very difficult one to keep or is that a relatively easy and successful one.?
@melevsreef6 жыл бұрын
I'd say it's a step harder than a BTA.
@ArrickthaRed6 жыл бұрын
Marc you said the anemone moves a lot but is it like when a bubble tip moves cuz my that's do laps around my tank. I have clowns that bite but I'm too attached to them since I've had them since they were very small. My Clarkii was very agressive for years but now doesn't bother me at all so I think it was a phase. Do the skunk clowns not bother you at all? What about the clowns in the cube?
@melevsreef6 жыл бұрын
None of my clownfish bother me at all. They know better. ;) The Sebae moves about a foot at the most, it doesn't travel everywhere. But I'd like it to stay where I 'planted' it some time ago. It's a great spot! hehe
@ArrickthaRed6 жыл бұрын
I am thinking about a tank upgrade and have 9 bubble tips but don't really want to start a new display with them but I love having anemones with clowns. I would like a less mobile anemone with clowns that aren't out for blood lol. I have 2 tanks now and have to have one dedicated to anemones like your cube but I just want one tank. Do you ave any other suggestions for anemones and calm clowns?
@melevsreef6 жыл бұрын
Suggestions to get all of those into one tank? Odds are you won't keep too many corals with nine BTAs roaming the rockwork. Clownfish that don't bite would be Skunks. Maroons & Clarkiis are biters for sure, but ocellaris can be mean too.
@Mike__B6 жыл бұрын
So you don't like to get your arms wet, do you just leave the dead acro skeleton parts of your corals up? Or do you frag off the dead parts at all? That said, yeah that anemone is very cool, unlike my rose bubble tips which won't get much larger than a softball before splitting (34 anemones at the highest count before I started just giving them away), but I would very much isolate it, maybe put some soft corals near it instead of stony ones.
@melevsreef6 жыл бұрын
From time to time I do reef cleaning, cutting and removing what needs to go. But mostly I leave it to itself so it can be as natural as possible. 34 BTAs? I knew another guy who's anemones split all the time and once we got his parameters stabilized on a consistent basis, that stopped. He now gets one or two splits a year. I'm curious what you are doing that leads to so many clones. Interesting suggestion about surrounding it with soft corals! Thanks.
@Mike__B6 жыл бұрын
Well I'm not going to pretend my water has been perfect, but the anemones have gone through multiple tanks over the years. Probably 13 or so years I've had "that" anemone, so it is fairly easy to see that even splitting every 2 years will end up at those high numbers with enough time. Except for the time in an all softie low maintainence tank (120 gal) at the beginning they have been in a species only tank with clowns, always a satellite tank of a sps heavy tank. Strangely enough when crowded with the softies they didnt split as much

I have TwinArc metal halide bulbs. They have both spectrums (two different arcs) inside the outer glass sheath. You can see them in my Lighting video, somewhere around the 12:00 mark.

Surely this anemone is a H. crispa and not H. malu!
@melevsreef6 жыл бұрын
It's H. malu as far as I know. Had a few people debate this some time ago and the consensus was malu. What makes you think crispa?
@joshmuldoon96226 жыл бұрын
Thanks for your response. I would say size and length of tentacles. Malu's (as far as I'm aware) don't grow as big and have shorter, stubbier tentacles. There really isn't enough up to date literature on anemones which is a pity.

I just saw one during my trip to Seattle that was tiny, just like this one was originally. It could have been its clone. If you could see what this one used to look like, maybe it would help. Here are some pictures: www.melevsreef.com/critter/sebae-anemone-heteractis-malu

More videos of your tank would only make your channel better, maybe talk with tank in background rather than showing pics of your tank on your computer.. you got the real deal in the other room whats better than real time.
@melevsreef6 жыл бұрын
Just showing the tank is far easier than trying to show me and the tank at the same time due to completely different lighting. But I hear you. :) The reef tank doesn't look good live streamed though, that's for sure.

well if this is something you really enjoy doing and you have the people to listen in, I'm sure an equipment upgrade would be justified. :) Unless of course you live out in no where with shit internet...
