Enjoy the first KZbin video of the MT-09 (FZ-09) at the 1/4 mile drag strip. Best time for the day was 11.79 @ 118.1MPH. More to come on the next visit!

000Margy000 Most fun I've had in a while on a bike! Refreshing not having to watch your speed on such a fast bike.
@malibu18810 жыл бұрын
Best chance to cut the times are in the first 60 feet. Get it off the line fast and have fun. Spring preload settings and tire pressures can help to lower things a bit and reduce the front end lift. The head shake at the top of the run is likely PIO (pilot induced oscillations) lighten up on the locked arms a bit. Thanks for the video post. Fun to watch.

That was very entertaining!! With more practice I'm sure you will get into the low 11's I'm heading out tomorrow to eastern creek in Sydney so with a bit of luck I'll see a good time.

Was told by the Yamaha dealer nearest to my home that there would be AT LEAST a month's wait before any more FZ09 bikes arrive for sale. All sold out, and the factory is ramping up production.

Nice one. I finally test rode one yesterday and i can't work out how you kept the front end down on the drag strip LOL.
@pipboychronicles10 жыл бұрын
With great difficulty lol, quite a few runs where the bars were shaking quite a lot into 4th. Was leaning right over on the bars aswell.

Nice video! But you do know that whenever in B mode, it takes away around 10 hp which means it goes from 105hp to 95hp...

I have an '18, you gotta lean over the tank and launch quite a bit harder. I leave at about 4-5k, it's not hard to get low to mid low to mid 11's with a little practice.👍

Block out the wind...It Didn't, as you probably know cos you edited the darn thing :-) Mate, that's great. I loved the "Holy Shit" as well. Sure, she isn't major top end but the real fun is the 0-120 (MPH) Loved my test ride, really!! I want one..
@pipboychronicles10 жыл бұрын
Blahdeblah52 Yeah everyone asks about the top speed of the bike but honestly anything over 200 and the wind is trying to rip you off the bike anyway. 1st - 3rd is where the fun is :)

I didnt want to give the thing back when i test rode it, so much fun

Hey man great vid. Was wondering how the bike is running now?
@abnx967010 жыл бұрын
That was awesome!!!! I still think you should make a run in A-Mode just for shits and giggles and see what it clocks in at. I must say you have balls like grapefruits to run that shakey front end on that track full of pot holes. Aussies are crazy as F^#K! Thanks for putting up this video! Sub'd-

Parker Fairbanks Next visit to the track, I will be trying A mode :)
@landraider10110 жыл бұрын
unless your running slicks doing a burnout isn't really effective. Tyres heat up better and faster from speed more than doing a skid so practice runs are really the best prep.
@Daponiesrockshow10 жыл бұрын
Next time start in 2nd she won't lift as much from the line… and yes my Mt-09 wants to buck me off every time i get on her. The first thing i did was tighten the throttle cable for more feel and response...
@PCPete688 жыл бұрын
+Daponies Rock Show They are wireless throttle (fly-by-wire ) so how is it adjustable? I own one and would like to take a little of the free play out if possible.

@HereComeTheParkers10 жыл бұрын
Why do they give the speed in MPH? Also what was that other bike on the strip beside you? Just curious as it must be a hot machine to pull past a MT-09.
@pipboychronicles10 жыл бұрын
1/4 mile is a bit old school lol, been in MPH for a long time :) The other bike was a CBR1000RR I think. The MT-09 is faster off the line but flat out down the strip it doesn't have a hope against a supersports bike :(
@ylism10 жыл бұрын
Nice first runs, looks like you dropped close to a 1 second, or so from your first runs, looks to be a good bit more to find down the road. What was your reaction times & 60' foot time and speed ? I sat on one just the same as your bike 4 days ago, they had 2 to come in the first bike sold within the first hour, and the other bike is gone most likely now. Ride safe, with Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde. lol... yl
@pipboychronicles10 жыл бұрын
***** Reaction times weren't counted as it was only practice runs, was focusing more on getting a good launch :) Started out with 2.2s 60ft'rs but got them down to 1.9s consistently by the end of the day :)
@ylism10 жыл бұрын
pipboychronicles It was an improvement, on a bike that seems to want to be a unicycle, or on it's back tire..lol All that TQ would make it hard to launch, it would be hard for awhile, but fun !

+pipboychronicles Doesn't look very stable above 150km? How's it feel?
@pipboychronicles8 жыл бұрын
+TDs Not great lol, hard acceleration with no steering damper and lots of wind aint that much fun.
@shaune202710 жыл бұрын
im thinking about getting one. and I was wondering what your top speed is. went to a dealer and they said 150mph but mcn say 131mph. good vid cant wait for more.
@pipboychronicles10 жыл бұрын
shaun e That is about as fast as I have so far, reached 202 indicated at the track which is around 191 in reality. Apparently the bike is limited to 220, believe me its hard enough to hold on even at 190
@shaune202710 жыл бұрын
pipboychronicles cool tanks
@atotalmoron10 жыл бұрын
shaun, it's electronically limited at 132, but can be circumvented with an ECU flash. There may be a reason why Yamaha limited it. I'd hate to get into a high speed tank slapper... It's a blast getting it up to speed though. That fast, hang on tight.
@pipboychronicles10 жыл бұрын
atotalmoron The wind is trying to rip you off the bike at 190. I couldn't imagine going much faster on a naked lol.
@MrBlurry201110 жыл бұрын
Sweet! where you using the clutch on your upshifts?
@pipboychronicles10 жыл бұрын
yeah normal fast shifting :)
@MrBlurry201110 жыл бұрын
pipboychronicles You should try next time with no clutch, that could shave some time.
@dristo80099 жыл бұрын
MrBlurry2011 yeah thats what i do when i go drag. Thought pipboys shifting was quite slow... but great video. if i can do 11.7sec and 119 mph with my HEAVY ass 2003 vfr than the MT09 can do much much better.
@pipboychronicles9 жыл бұрын
Not saying you cant do better :) at the end of the day I had to ride it home and didn't want to bin it. Hot days don't help either :(

B mode?
@ponypowered9110 жыл бұрын
so this was in Standard? you haven't tried it in A Mode?
@pipboychronicles10 жыл бұрын
ponypowered91 Not yet, A mode doesn't offer any extra power it just makes the throttle sharper. The last thing you want on the strip is a fast throttle as it will just wheelie down the track. Will try A mode next time I get down there but I don't expect any gains other than lifting the front wheel more

How does this bike run a 10.6 on cycle world? You seem to be pretty good but I don't know how they cut a whole second off that time
@pipboychronicles10 жыл бұрын
It might be possible with very aggressive launches and running it low on fuel, I'd prefer not to chew up the clutch or wreck the bike though.
@pipboychronicles10 жыл бұрын
***** It wont take much more off the line as the front was already lifting but could probably rev 1st out a bit further. Was already getting 1.86 60ft's which is pretty good for a bike with such a light front end :) Cycle world rated the bike at 125MPH, there is no way it will do that unless the heat was killing it on the day.
@MegaAverageJoeGamer10 жыл бұрын
Also he was running in standard mode, if he were in A mode he would be going a lot faster.
@pipboychronicles10 жыл бұрын
I wouldn't count on it, A is exactly the same power, it just more aggressive with throttle openings... Clutchless shifting would help a lot though and more revs off the line
@vivimu10 жыл бұрын
How long have you been riding pipboy
@TheSzasstam10 жыл бұрын
why are u in B mode,
@pipboychronicles10 жыл бұрын
TheSzasstam Trying to get the power to the ground without lifting the front wheel. Whenever the front comes up, it kills the ET having to lift off the throttle.
@brianf.808710 жыл бұрын
I have heard this bike will not go over 103mph/209kmph. Is that true? I was sad to hear cause that's a deal breaker for me. My SV650 could go faster than that...
@rickclines29099 жыл бұрын
209 is 130mph actually. And ya, that is about it's top speed roughly. Same with my FZ 07. Gotta remember though, it's not a super sport. Most super sports in it's cc range only go about 10-20mph faster though.
@btflorey9 жыл бұрын
Rick Clines yeah, i really dont need to go faster than 130 i just dont want to be redlining the bike when i do. How does your fz07 have the same top speed as a bike with a bigger engine, more hp, and more torque?
@dristo80099 жыл бұрын
+Brian F. Dude trust me, your sv650 is a big turd compared 2 the FZ09 test it u WILL understand

Top Speed MT-09 ?

+luciano horacio 221 incidated and electronicaly limitied

118mph in a run is that all she can do? That's depressing me, I thought the fz09 was a bit quicker
@pipboychronicles10 жыл бұрын
It can do more, bear in mind it was pushing 35c ambient temperature on a crap surface and no clutch less shifting. Could probably launch it harder aswell but you would have to deal with a wheelie half the way down.
@PCPete688 жыл бұрын
+pipboychronicles and in std and B mode you are not getting it's full potential. Great Vid loved it. I got an MT-09 as well and loving it.
