My theory is that Pepa is redirecting her grief for losing a brother into anger because its easier for her to handle, and she doesn't want anyone to talk about him because it will trigger her weather. Her whole life is revolving around managing her emotions and not letting them go out over the people around her, so the least her family can do is to help her contain those triggers.
@canopylions2 жыл бұрын
Love this theory. Initially we think they don't talk about Bruno just because of all the bad stuff he predicted, but it's really because they miss him so much and just don't want to think about why he left or if he's okay. Especially Abuela, she lost her only son, her boy who looked so much like his father. I can only imagine bringing up Bruno around her would result in an instant blow-up triggered by her grief.
@0l._.l08952 жыл бұрын
I also feel like Abuelas reaction made it worse. She blamed him for "ruining" her daughters wedding so they just saw it that way since Abuela was unhappy. Even though they loved their wedding day bc Felix even says it was joyous so they weren't even that mad.

It's funny you mentioned Idina Menzel. Did you catch all the Frozen references in this song? When Isa and Mirabel are on the palm tree and Isa's singing "ohhh", it's reminiscent of when Elsa and Anna are in the ice castle and Anna's telling her about the eternal winter and Elsa is singing "ohhh". Lin-Manuel really is a genius.

Not just that, during the vision thingy it was in the shape of the tornado elsa was fighting in frozen ll and it also showed something. The “dress change” Isabella had is like Elsa’s because they’re both becoming themselves. Bruno singing “let it gooo” in the last song etc!

I want to raise a point of disagreement; I know that the STEREOTYPE of Disney Princesses is having only a light and airy sound, but a lot of the princesses legitimately have powerful belts. Even the example you give, Ariel, gets more belty on the reprise of that song-- where she's finding confidence in her newfound resolution. You brought up Idina Menzel, who (as we all know) plays Elsa (though that's a Disney QUEEN), but even Anna (with a more traditional Disney Princess sound) can dig deep and belt it out. Lea Salonga (who sings both for Jasmine and Mulan) is a goddess and can absolutely powerhouse her way through her vocals, which she shows in both instances. Belle is given a more 'sweet' sound overall, does tend to keep things to a medium range, and Rapunzel is a lighter, sweeter sound as a whole (and probably the closest to the stereotype), but (while I've got Mixed Feelings on the movie) Pocahontas, played by Judy Kuhn, again has a VERY powerful voice during her numbers. And never mind Tiana, whose voice never fails to give me chills. In contrast, Isabela does stay within a certain range in this song, though you're right, she DOES improve the overall vocal power over the course of the song. That high note was actually VERY closed off, sounding more like a scooping "duoh" than "Doooh", BUT it was an excellent high note regardless! Isabela's growth as a character IS mirrored in this song, and we even hear hints of it in "We Don't Talk About Bruno", when she sings, "He told me that my *power* would grow", the word 'power' is given, well, power! A hint of what's to come! You still raise a lot of good points, but I just wanted to bring up that the legacy Disney singers are very often absolute powerhouses in their own rights, too. This movie does a lot more variety in vocal textures, though.
