Talking about Steve Blum's performance as Spike Spiegel and his uncanny ability to "emote without emoting" is what's called a "grounded performance." @BothHands15 жыл бұрын
Yeah, Robin Williams really was ahead of his time. Very few people have even come close to his brilliance, even after all these years.
I personally love Handsome Jack's final lines before his death so much because he really was the little guy at the bottom of the ladder when he was younger. Shown to be abused by his grandmother as a kid, more than likely bullied by dozens of people because he'd never make it to the top. Fast forward years, he's the CEO of a multi million dollar company, wanting to clear out the entire planet of Pandora of bandits to make it a better place, something that he genuinely believes that it is the right thing to do - and he *lost*. Just as he said, "You are a bandit, and I, am the god damn HERO!"

Small correction, these corporations in Borderlands universe are unbelievably huge, they span 6 galaxies that humanity is present in Hyperion is not multi-million, it's unquantifiable currency-of-your-choice company. The twins are just annoying compared to him
@aresxprodigy17395 жыл бұрын
@Trevor Houff i think they were intended to be like that, if you're trying to force yourself to do better then you end up forcing the players hand. The reason handsome jack was so good is because we didn't want to kill him. We loved him. The twins are a direct perpendicular and we want to kill them. The script writers knew they couldn't do better. So they did worse, and by doing that the Calypso twins are a garbage masterpiece of character development
@V1G1LANTEK95 жыл бұрын
@@aresxprodigy1739 I agree in Borderlands 3 the writers decided to make an ultimate evil. That show no empathy for anyone that have no real reason anyone of sane mind would be able to sympathize with them. I think their development over the game was good as evil characters. They just got more menacing and stronger. And as more characters died the story went on you just kept losing hope is things just kept getting worse until the very end when you finally bring them down with the only way to truly stop them being sacrifice. The writers knew they couldn't do a whole lot to beat handsome Jack so they made the best they could without

@@aresxprodigy1739 personally in my opinion I think the twins were definitely not as good as handsome Jack it but the bar was set so high when they made your handsome Jack that people can appreciate the Calypso's on their own and the Calypso's did a good job as being the ones that they were hated which was the important part I think that their role was to be hated us that's what the villains part to get heated until you didn't eventually either kill them sorry for bad grammar I used the voice thing cuz I'm too lazy to type all of this

Fun fact: Liam O'Brien and Ashley Johnson both play in the most famous D&D stream ever, Critical Role. Ashley doesn't get too deep into character in the first season, but you can really see Liam diving into the minds of his characters. It almost feels like he's living his characters and their turmoils. This is noticeable in the first season, but in the second season, he manages to make his performance more visceral, while keeping it under a tighter leash, vocally. A very quiet, yet intense performance. It's kinda brilliant.

People hate on dubs because they have a preference. There is really no point to spending energy being bothered by people disliking dubs. That's like getting actually upset about iPhone fans downtalking Android users. I watch very few anime English dub as the voice acting doesn't always feel natural to the show. Some however, are done pretty well (DBZ, Yu Yu Hakusho, Konosuba, etc). Others don't always feel the same way. You having a disability doesn't mean anything negative about you, but honestly why would that impact someone criticizing dubs at all? Your having one doesn't mean that I won't stop having issues with the voice acting of some shows. But I will say the actual lack of understanding Japanese can be a reason why some prefer dub. When you don't understand the language, it's harder to distinguish bad VA.

As someone who's never even heard of Baccano, I gotta say from just that clip you showed it didn't come across as the "instantly know he's a psychopath walking in". 8:28 okay, so this is one of those things that is *so* easily overlooked and I feel like it needs a mention. The "total bitch" line is obviously meant to have a sort of deadpan delivery, but what most people would have done is just do it straight, cut right to the deadpan and pull the rug out. But what actually happens here is so much better - Handsome Jack himself, as a character, wants to do the deadpan delivery but is so goddamn amused with himself from the story he just told that he can't quite do it. You can hear that he's still smiling, his posture is relaxed, and he couldn't conjure up a fuck to give about you if someone had a gun to his head. It does such an amazing job of keeping in character and selling the other lines that came before it.
