Yes, Christi, I am applying your tips toward rejuvenating an old, long-dormant singing voice, with a life-long, infuriating history of several "migrating" cracks/breaks in the chest register, as well as between chest and falsetto (I never learned "mix"); cord polyps/nodules were ruled out, as the cause. Seems to have something to do with TWO voice changes in puberty (first, from boy soprano [became falsetto] to tenor, then tenor to baritone--all in 3 years, resulting in about a 4 octave, but barely controllable, range). So, I just sing in private and audio engineer for a friend, who occasionally records in my studio. But, I am enjoying trying your tips--thanks. Next Sohyang suggestion: "Everyone" (find the one with English subtitles). If, however, you are a woman "of faith", have a box of tissues handy and don't apply much mascara, on the day you listen to her sing this Korean Contemporary Christian, epic classic! Love your channel.

Kim So-hyang (born April 5, 1978), credited as Sohyang, is a South Korean singer. She made debut in 1996 with the song "MR", which was released on Naver Music. Despite having a long career in South Korea, she was only able to make her international breakthrough in 2014, when she became the first Korean artist to sing the American national anthem at a NBA game. Sohyang also achieved fame when she sang with Michael Bolton & Kirk Franklin. Sohyang's voice type is a Lyric Soprano, specifically a Full Lyric Soprano. Her vocal range spans from D3 to A6, a total of 3 octaves, 3 notes, and a semitone. She is known for her emotive and powerful vocals with characteristics being a homogeneous, rounded, and bright instrument of remarkable beauty and meticulous control. You are also loved! I am actually trying out your tips on So Hyang just after watching the video a few minutes ago. She did so many things in that song! So many dynamics and her stances (how she stood) at different times especially when prepping to hit those power belts were instructive. She is also very emotive facially, using her eyes and hands to reach out as well as her voice. I have been immersing myself in her performances (more than other vocalists) and trying to observe and teach my body to coordinate better for improved singing. Coaches like you help to shine the light on what is actually happening, and I am sure your classes would be a joy to attend. Music is a such a gift to us from God. And experiencing well-trained vocalists and musicians sharing their performances with us is heartwarming and instructional for us music lovers.

I was initially turned off by her singing because I felt that she was all about vocal techniques and showing off how high she can go. Then I learned about her personal story and then it made all sense such as why she sings certain types of songs, why she doesn't seek fame, etc. Cracking singer and truly wonderful person.

Actually, the first word out of this Bridge Over Trouble Water video is her name being announced by the MC. Sohyang is a God given gift. She has dedicated her live to Jesus Christ. That is why she sings mainly in churches and charities. She did accept some invitations from competitions, and that is the reason why we have all these gems from her. In these competitions, the songs are rearranged - not only for her, but all competitors will also rearranged their songs. She has been approached by agencies from Korea and US, and she rejected them all (although she admitted that she was tempted). Her songs are meant for those who needed consolation. If you want to find her personal website, blog, FB, Instagram, twitter, etc etc on the Internet, she has none. My favourite songs are those from her reign in King Of Mask Singer competition. Hard to choose, but if I have to choose, then it must be Dear Love. It is a cover of an OST, about a wife who is pining for her cheating husband. She still loves him dearly. You can hear waves and waves of yearning, wailing and pain in the song. I teared every single time, but that is just me. Thanks for the lovely reaction, and I must compliment you for your lovely voice.

And of course most of all I prefer her Dear Love and Hug Me from King of the Masked Singer. These videos (not cut) are hardly to find on KZbin. The best quality and eng subs (it's very important) - on Vimeo. So Hyang is known as the singer who can perform everything: pop, rock, ballads, r-n-b, even rap (she did that on KOMS).

Sohyang kills everything she does. I love her singing. Her Church and Charity events are legendary. She can get an audience of any size on their feet or make them cry. ( me too). Hello, I just subscribed to your channel and think you're an awesome reactor. Anyway, Kim SoHyang is one of the best in South Korea and is one of my favorite of many of the Asian music industry. I belong to a fan base club of hers on Facebook, Last month our administrator and another member went to South Korea to see her live and deliver roses and our letters we wrote to her. She is a wonderful beautiful God fearing woman. the interview was posted by my friend and the company of Kim SoHyang as well. Anyway, on my channel, I have over 90 of her music videos and several episodes of Immortal song 2 where she was on just now, it is a singing competition show where 7 of the best of South Korea gather to sing yesteryears songs. One of the main reasons I'm a Sohyang fan is because she's a master at manipulating her voice, thus you will never get bored of her singing. It's like breathing to her. Across multiple performances, you will notice that she almost never sings using the same tone. She manipulates her tone to suit the song better, lowering larynx, blasting chest voice, blasting the twangy sound(especially in her Lean On Me rendition), using the "crying" voice for a dramatic effect, or straight on bright, youthful soprano singing(As I Live/Saldaga and Dear Love). She even had grit to her voice when she sang a rock song called It's Only My World. Her voice was totally dark in that performance.

So Hyang said the first thing she learned from Seth Riggs to improve her technique is nan nan nan nan nan ... non non non non non ... etc and often when she is singing you will see her using her hands to guide her voice ...

I've been singing brighter now with not as much weight (though that's my crux I guess...) and let me tell you that this has grown my voice and really made me sing with less effort. Only thing I think is I may feel like I sound a little too bright? I don't feel my nose resonates when I'm hitting higher notes... Also any tips on not to lower larynx when I'm descending in my range? I notice it happens more if I'm doing down-ward runs rather than me just singing in my lower range.
