I loved Queen’s music with a passion. I loved Adam Lambert on American Idol. Saw them together in concert in Boston. Cried happy tears to hear the music again with an amazing singer who I also wanted to see. Freddie is Freddie…the one and only. Adam is also Adam…the one and only. I'm 68 and have seen all the greats. I watched only one season of American Idol (2008) BECAUSE of Adam. When he first stepped onto stage at the auditions (with Bohemian Rhapsody no less) I was hooked. He has the most amazing voice I have ever heard (other than Babs of course). And he's actually a NICE guy! Plus he has some really great looks. Freddie would be proud. He does him justice while staying true to himself. Adam is truly amazing - a gift from the heavens!

I took my granddaughter to see them in July. My granddaughter would never listen to this song because it reminded her of her mother’s death. She couldn’t escape it in the concert, but she sat mesmerized by Adam’s performance (the only moment we sat). Now she said his singing it helped her. The power of a vocal performance!

My oldest son passed away in 2008 and I was heartbroken and devastated. I began watching Adam on American Idol in 2009 and corny as this sounds he brought me so much joy that he helped with my grief. Brian and Roger have both said they did not want an imitation, someone who sounded like Freddie. It would be too painful. They love Adam; they have chemistry with him. It works for all of them. As a Queen fan since 1975, I'm happy Roger and Brian are happy, and I get to see them live again. Adam does a kick-ass job, a fantastic performance. That's all I need to know.

There is no one around right now like Adam, seeing him sing in person is undoubtedly an indescribable experience. I could say so many things about it and it would never feel enough. I have seen them twice (and Adam solo once) and ended up tearing up during this song both times. There is so much that transcends the screen with Adam, yet still some things that can't. It's him just walking around, slightly moving his shoulder (and other body parts), little sounds of groaning and breathing, making eyes contact to the audience (I swear he recognizes people who have been in front row recently) or falling on his knees and totally down to the floor for the most sexy song "Get down make love". I have never heard Adam Lambert singing for Queen before I stumbled across this vid. Avoided it. Nobody can sing Queen like Freddie. And I was right. Nobody can sing Queen like Freddie. Again, thank you John! I come from a Mom who sang opera under Toscanini at Carnegie Hall many, many decades ago. Walt Disney actually tried to hire her to be the voice of Snow White, but she was busy with a career and a small child, my half sister, who is now 92. Toscanini compared her voice to that of the great Lily Pons. My lullabies were from the most incredible soprano voice you could imagine. She spent a good deal of time trying to train my voice, but I was young and silly, plus I had my Dad's pleasant voice, not hers. She wanted to be my manager. I really appreciate what you do and enjoy that you share your knowledge with the masses, ... uh, most of us, who learn to appreciate a gift where it exists from your talents.

I have seen Adam live five times. Once with the American Idol tour, twice solo, once with the Texas Tango compilation concert, and most recently with Queen. His voice is absolutely amazing and affects me in ways other singers just don't come close to doing. Hearing him live is completely different than recordings! Adam is the only person alive I have trusted with Queen music, and I have not been disappointed yet. He is really a unique vocalist who is on the same level as Freddie without sounding like he is doing Queen karaoke or trying to imitate the original in any way. This one is absolutely my best favorite Queen’s song Adam sings. Gives me chills and tears me up every time I hear it even on recording. I was fortunate to see him live 3 times with Queen and 3 more on his solo tour. He’s a performer you can watch every day of the week and never get tired of. i personally love adam's voice...a super high tenor...and this coming from a steve perry fan...who i believe was the greatest sounding rock tenor around..but..yea..adam does a very good job of hitting and holding high register notes...

Interesting to hear your explanation of the technicalities. I was lucky enough to be near the front of the 55,000 audience at the IOW festival for this performance. It was mesmerising. It had been around 37 years since I had last seen Queen live so I was beyond thrilled to be there. It was a very mixed audience but Adam had them in the palm of his hand just as Freddie had done so many years earlier.

Adam lambert live performances are Fantasic and leave me wanting to hear him sing again and again. Adam gives all of himself to make one feel the music. If anyone reading this has an opportunity to attend an event where Adam Lambert sings.. run don’t walk towards the event.

It is funny that I have loved QUEEN since 1974 and I fell in love with ADAM evr since he first auditioned on the American Idol and now they are together!! I think this is kismet, meant to be from the start, I love the co operation between Queen and Adam, it´s just perfect!! No one can replace Freddie but Adam just really can fill Freddie´s boots, he IS PROUD of Adam in heaven!!!

I'm going to see them next June in London. My first trip abroad. I missed Queen in 1982 and I know I'll regret it if I don't ever see them, and I adore Adam. Loved him from his AI audition.

Thank you for this review! Adam is amazing live. I saw Q+AL at the LA Forum in 2019 (my $100 tickets went up to $1500 for two after they won the Oscar but no way was I going to sell). Maybe the best concert I’ve ever attended, in the worst seats I’ve ever had lol. All 3 of them are so powerful. I went as more of a Queen fan but Adams voice brought me to tears several times, especially this song. I will cherish the memory.

I have been a queen fan since 1974 when I saw them on their first US tour with Mott, then later over the years. Who wants to live forever is my favorite song. In the Freddie era Brian (wrote) and sings the first verse (warm tone) and then Freddie (crisp tone) and just watched you critique Adam who sounds to me like a combo of both their voices. Would love to hear the differences you hear in all 3 voices as they are all singing the same vocals. I love watching you listen to Queen, you have the same smile I feel I have and am so glad they found Adam to continue playing together.

Hi, John--I'm revisiting this video as I do from time to time--your analysis of Adam's voice is spot on, but I think you should be aware that Adam has 4 lungs and an extra set of vocal folds that other humans do not possess. How else could he produce such sounds? But seriously, I think this is his finest performance and your reaction to it is my favorite on utube---thank you!

I love this reaction. I’ve listened to vocal coach reactions many times, several for this exact performance, but I’ve never heard one that zeroed in on things like how singers use their voice to tell an emotional story that goes beyond the lyrics.

Adams technique is outstanding. Rare amidst the current crop of popular music vocalists. It was evident in his first performance on idol. As a voice teacher myself it really made me sit up and listen. I have many pet hates in current vocal stylings and im glad to say he doesnt exhibit any of them !

I was fortunate to get very good seats in Hamilton Ontario to the American Idol top 10 tour. The tenth place contestant performed first and it progressed up the ladder to number one. When Adam performed (2nd place) he brought the house down. He was in a class of his own. First place (forgotten now) winner had to wait several minutes for the audience to quiet down. That night I knew Adam Lambert was a super star.

Such an incredible voice. Were he singing for any other band, people might realise it, but too many just say, “Hmph. Who does he think he is trying to replace Freddie?” and shut their minds to the possibility that Freddie (astounding as he was, no arguing that), was not the ONLY phenomenal singer to ever exist. Very very VERY few singers can sing in Queen’s vast selection of genres and styles like Freddie did, as was proven at the Tribute Concert for Freddie. Adam can.

Had the rare opportunity of watching Adam coming out with his talents as a singer many years ago in American idol. It was such a pleasure to see his performance. The best I’ve seen on the show. Even then he was so creative and insanely talented.

This is my favorite version of Adam doing this song with Queen, and it is my favorite song he does in any concert with them. For superb examples of his solo vocal work I suggest his recent performance of Closer to You (his own song) on James Corden's Late Late Show, or his power ballad version of Believe sung at the Kennedy Center Honors last year, which brought the legendary Cher to tears and to her feet. He just released a studio recording of Believe that is spectacular, but nothing can beat seeing and hearing him perform live.

"we say forever"... speak for yourself, Aussies say "foreva!" Haha Adam Lambert is simply wow. He is the only man, the only performer who can can hold a candle to the late Freddie Mercury. I've seen him solo twice, and will see him and Queen in Sydney in February. He is amazing live. Wow...this must have been such an emotional experience in person.

It's just so funny though that we (Aussies) DO speak the same language as Americans, and the same as the Brits, the Kiwis, etc etc, but we all sound SO different from eachother. So many of these language based things are targetted at Americans-like the world forgets there are other English speakers who do not pronouce things the same way.
