Well, I'm a guy, and a vocalist in my late 40's. I have to say I have been waiting a very long time to hear a band or vocalist that excites me. After hearing Greta Van Fleet's song Highway Tune, I was a fan, and downloaded the album. Led Zepplinish? Absolutely! A copy? No. It's very refreshing to hear actual musicians play in a world of over produced faces that fit "the profile" for short term commercial success. I think your review is spot on, and is the reason I subscribed. Great job, and analysis! Go Greta Go! 😎

Whether or not they "prove everyone wrong" which is kind of a redundant statement.. I'm personally not too thrilled they use a little auto-tune while recording in the studio. This song is one of them (again, in the studio version), and most won't hear it. Which is fine, it's still a good song. But for me, that takes away from what you're supposed to do as a vocalist, which is sing, and sing to your ability. Not half assing it in the studio when your voice can't make the cut.

I mean, they're fine musicians, the world has millions of them, but rock and roll in this sense is beyond dead. This is fine craftsmanship, but its completely artless. In 20 years nobody will know or remember who they are, but they will know and remember Zeppelin.

I caught the guys in June after they cut tour short in Europe to rest. They were fantastic - energy, command of the stage and crowd (15 y.o. to 75 y.o.), and had fun. I was on the floor, but every time I looked back, the entire seated crowd was standing up. In my forty years of concerts, at the least the guys show promise of venturing into more bluesy rock. Also, Josh actually isn't even trying to imitate Robert Plant; the way he sings and sounds is just how he gets the most power from his voice. I like to compare him to Mark Martel of the Queen Extravaganza, who sounds almost identical to Freddie Mercury: The Freddie sound wasn't what he was originally going for (although *he* actually did end up in a tribute band), that's just his voice and singing style.

I adore this band. Have seen them live 3 times and seeing them again 3 more times before year end. They are FANTASTIC live. The shows are pure high energy rock fun--and they each carry equal weight musically in a live performance. Josh never looks like he is straining vocally--he has clearly worked on his craft enough to know how to do what he does. (I have even watched him perform sick and he manages to get through it.) And all the guys work so well together---I have seen them make a few mistakes during their shows, and they have each other's back and like any good improvisation, they use the "error" to fuel more energy and creativity. They are the real deal--they know music and they know themselves. And they are so young (19-22)--it should be interesting to see where they go from here.

I love Greta, they do sound amazing and I love that they're a new rock band. I feel like Josh sounds a lot like Robert Plant, specially in his non distorted sound, his high notes and the way he goes down, like you said is a very Zeppelin sound. You should hear them in their acoustic versions, Black Smoke Rising is a damn good song and I specially love the acoustic version. Love the channel Sam.

Robert Plant has said he "hates him" [the GVF singer] - which is high compliment. Mr Plant does not feel these guys are directly ripping off Led Zep, since they *are* a little different, cover different ground musically, and are writing their own material. For their own parts, all the guys in GVF were raised in a home filled with music of the Led Zep era, and that has obviously been a heavy influence. That wail is not affected - it's just an uncanny coincidence: he was trying to make himself heard over the elder brothers' garage band and it just happened. They ran with it, of course, but it's not something they were originally going for. (At least, according to them in several radio spots and TV interviews.)

people say they're just an imitation of Led, but, as a huge fan of rock and metal, I think it's awesome to hear a young band come together and make some original songs that really has a sound reflecting of a time when rock was making its influence felt. I love it. I highly recommend checking out some of their songs. The first song I heard from them was Highway Tune. It's such an awesome faster tempo song that's great to blast in the summer while driving on a nice hot sunny day. His style is known as oversinging. Which is perfectly okay. Robert Plant’s style was also built from trying to be heard over a 150 decibel band like Led Zeppelin. The problem is the constant oversinging and abuse of his instrument led Plant to require surgery, from which he lost basically the upper quarter of his vocal range. Very sad.

Big is the wrong word. His voice is thin and heady. Chris Cornell sang super high, but it was truly huge because it came from his chest. I think Josh is barely whispering into the microphone. Watching this again 'cause now you've piqued my interest with this band. I still know nothing about them, but, I've been listening to a few tracks since you did this reaction and I really enjoy the few songs I've listened to so far. I also listened to a radio interview with them. What's interesting is that after listening to him speak, his singing makes absolute sense. He seems to have a natural fry (?) to his speaking voice as well (it reminds me of how Adam Sandler sounds when he gets into his ranty/yelly thing, has that sort of scratchiness to it). His voice also sounds a little more whiny/nasal (sorry, I don't know the terms!) as well when he speaks, so his singing voice is totally all him. I'm sure other people who know their music will have great suggestions on other stuff of theirs to listen to, but I quite enjoyed "Flower Power". He has less of that fry sound in that song, and quite cool (I think) he does a bit of like a... yodel (?) thing in a couple of places, which is interesting. I only mention that because the song they sang live/acoustic in the radio interview I listened to, he did loads of that yodel sound and it certainly sounded intentional to my ears, and it was pretty funky. Anyway, yeah, I dig 'em.

Born in the sixties rocked though the seventies. Found these kids while surfing for classic rock songs when I was bored. Saw the LED Zeppelin comparison and started to check them out. I was fucking thrilled that young kids were rocking away. Looked on the web and found there history. Self taught, brothers and friends from the get go, hanging out and having a blast. Anybody who looks down on that is just a poor sport. I don't know anything about playing music, but I feel that these kids have some real talent, and having the time of their life. GOOD FOR THEM!!!
