I've been a Pentaholic for a few years now, and I will always love listening to them, but when you take in ALL of it, VoicePlay surpasses them. They are at least as talented, vocally, PLUS they create ALL of it themselves. They have no studio backing (which also means no studio trying to tell them what to do), they have their own talent pool to draw on for everything from arranging, filming, costuming, media presence, and so forth. I assembled a list of the stuff they've dropped over the last year or so and posted it on another reactor's page and was really blown away by the sheer magnificence of the stuff they've produced. I've watched this video plus reactions to it several times now, and each time, my eyes flood. If you want a little relief from that heart-rending, actually go to the original video and read the "liner notes" (description box). Even with tears flowing down my face, I found myself giggling at their humor. One of my favorite things about them is their relentless sense of humor. Note that people want to talk about how good they've "become," but seriously, people - go back and watch some of their older stuff. Try Phantom of the Opera, for instance, which is so old that TONY is in it (and Geoff has short hair, omg). They have NEVER been less than extraordinary.

Pentatonix, Home Free, and Voctave are so talented. All respect in the world to them. They don’t hold a candle to these guys. They have such depth. You feel what they feel. They absolutely get their message across. No other group Is on their level. The way they can do any genre and make it their own. Just superb.

Well said. I absolutely enjoy the other a cappella groups, but when I listen to VoicePlay… I *FEEL* the music down to my bones. Sure, other artists may have a song or two that elicit an emotional response from me, but song after song after song, somehow VoicePlay just hits me full force in the feels. There’s just something so remarkable and yes, *so very special*, about VoicePlay.

I cannot get through this without crying. I no longer sob uncontrollably. I’ve gotten that handled a little better. But the minute Cesar’s voice breaks on the word “cry” my eyes well up. Between the beautiful arrangement, the outstanding vocals and the stark drama of each of them staring into a mirror, I don’t know how anyone cannot be moved by this. I suffer from both depression and anxiety, and as a result I constantly doubt myself. The first few times I sort of had a little meltdown. But now I find it somewhat cathartic and even therapeutic to know that everyone has those moments. It just that some of us have more of them. I so admire and appreciate your honest reaction. I know there’s a lot of musical theory, and a lot of impressive “this” and fantastic “that”. But I love that you just appreciated the music for the piece of art it is. Thank you for your honesty. It’s why we keep coming back. Hugs 🤗🫂❤

One takeaway from this can be the last scene. Although they’ve spent most of the video reflecting with the mirror (and even when singing together, they were all feeling their own thoughts) that last scene shows there’s really no difference between them. Everybody is weird in their own way, but can come together to make something beautiful. And don’t worry about their next one. They just filmed it today, and I’ll challenge you right now to just try to get through it without laughing!

Thank you, thank you❤ Sending lots of love and appreciation from Canada.

So beautiful, and so painful. For me, one of the things that made it powerful was hearing the same words from each of them, and realizing how universal self-doubt is. Thank you for keeping it real. Thank you, too, for reacting to Cesar's beautiful opening here, instead of ignoring it to focus on Geoff's low notes, as so many have. Somehow, watching reactors ignoring the beauty of his acting and voice just makes the words - the song - more painful.

I, too, cried watching this the first couple of times. VoicePlay is definitely my favorite of all a cappella groups. I mean, the way they know each other and trust each other to put something so beautiful and emotional and moving like this together. They are definitely a force to be reckoned with. Watching your reaction, you made me cry again. I just wanted to reach through the screen and hug you. I hope you're doing well.

This song is a stab in the heart in the best way. It captures the absolute despair that no one will every love you the way you are. It captures the imposter syndrome almost everyone feels. It captures the "of course everyone leaves, they deserve better." This rendition perfectly captured how I related to the original song. It hurts, but you feel less alone, because here is a group of people you admire, maybe even idolize, singing your feelings back at you.

Five very special guys who probably don't know it. :) Well done for holding it together. I had the feeling it was a struggle. I don't even try. :) And yes Anthony's voice is sublime. As a new subscriber(literally between your 2nd and 3rd replay) I wanna say I totally agree with all your subscribers, I like reactors who show real genuine emotions. Who are willing to be vulnerable and say "Here I am, like it or fuc$ off." There's a saying from somewhere; "If music doesn't make you feel SOMETHING/ANYTHING, then you're not listening; you're only hearing." Let them emotions flow my friend, if we(I should say "I", cause I shouldn't speak for all) didn't want honest, raw reactions we wouldn't be here. Anyone can watch a video and go "music good, bad, whateves", but to actually get something out of it is a totally different story. I'm going to apologize in advance; short replys, comments aren't really my thing.

Hey Lyle, been watching your reactions for a while and wanted to let you know how much I enjoy them. I especially appreciate your honest emotion with this one. When Geoff let slip that they were doing this one I listened to the original and the Ptx cover to have an idea of what to expect. Then they did the Patreon release, I hit play and it felt like a baseball bat to the stomach. Then I watched it again and again trying to process. It is so easy to put up walls, get defensive, get self protective when life asks something of you. It is so hard to be open, to take risk, to be vulnerable. This captures all of that.

Thank you for such an honest, emotional reaction. It's what I felt when I saw and heard the song on the VP patreon the first time: stunned tears. I can watch it now (a week later) without weeping, but the beauty of and vulnerability in the guys' voices still brings a lump to my throat. This self-reflection, represented literally here, and insecurity are what the song should've always been about. Other interpretations have had so much anger and borderline misogyny that I grew to dislike the song. Eli and VP have made a version that rings true for all of us who've ever suffered with imposter syndrome, with no nasty undercurrents. And yes, VoicePlay truly is the best.

This one hits hard, doesn't it? They all give a gut-punch of a performance, but Cesar definitely has the sharpest blade (he's incredibly good at that sort of thing, and apparently he has suffered a lot of real-life tragedy, made much more difficult these days, I would imagine, by being part of the LGBTQ+ community in America.) It feels like they all laid their vulnerabitlities bare in this one though (Geoff apparently has body issues, so giving him the line "I want a perfect body" was probably what helped him sell it.) Anthony's so young, I really hope he hasn't suffered too much already in real life to deliver his heart-rending performance. And please don't feel bad about feeling your emotions on camera either - it's what makes your reactions so special and meaningful. I agree with you about Voiceplay - they've actually taken over the top spot in my Favourite Acapella Group list with their recent work. And yeah, Eli is my favourite too!

Voiceplay did an amazing job on this song. The emotion came thru in each individual sequence. To be hones, I did not like the original - too much electronic noise that overshadowed the words and meaning. There are many versions of this cover but I think VP has a unique way of interpretation for all their songs. Love you reactions and will always check back. Now, to address the emotion - don't ever change. While there are some creeps" in this world, most of us are just "unique" and vital to the universe. We are part of the whole. And at almost 80 - having lived thru angst and self doubt what I have learned is NO ONE CAN MAKE YOU FEEL BAD ABOUT YOURSELF UNLESS YOU LET THEM. Hugs
