So, I was watching The Soup this morning and Von was one of the clips. ( making faces while singing.) The notes sounded so nice I came to You tube to look Von up. The View had his name hanging in lights in the back ground. Thanks View. I have been looking and enjoying all his videos for about an hour now and now seeing this video where I started I must say it has been a pleasant morning spending it with you Mr. Von. Thank you and I pray your voice takes you where ever in life your heart desire.

Great performance. I love the emotion and vocal dynamics V.S. brings to the stage. It's an over-the-top song that demands nothing less than an over-the-top delivery to be effective. This young man has real talent, real soul, and real stage presence. He'll go far for sure. Thanks for posting.

@dave00004483 What you consider "slaughtering and overwhelming" is what many of us are so impressed by, the power and soul to his voice is extremely impressive and it takes a very experienced voice to do this. even most of the older vocal greats who had beautiful voices were not even capable of this kind of vocal power, sinatra for example, this kid would kick his ass in a belting competition. In the end though it truely is a matter of opinion. This is simply yours I suppose :-/

I agree, I think he is better in the original KZbin performance. Perhaps it is nerves or the early morning talk show shoot? I only heard one kinda klunky note, but I still think he is talented. We will hear more about him in the future (even if it's that KZbin made him a star?)

And FYI, there were TONS of people from Idol last year who had contracts before Idol, as well as singers before then. Carrie Underwood, Taylor Hicks, Kristy Lee Cook, Michael Johns, Brooke White, Carly Smithson, David Cook, Kelly Clarkson (I believe...I will double check on her). It's not against the rules. The rule is you can't be under contract AT THE TIME of your Idol audition.

If I may, I'd like to take a teensy bit of credit for bringing him to the attention of Rosie. She says she just happened to be looking at singers on KZbin when she came across his videos. Well, back in 2007, before his appearance, mind you, I emailed Rosie through ABC's The VIEW website and told her about him with a link to KZbin. I don't know him nor have I ever met him but I live in Kansas City. I saw him on an entertainment segment of a local show on a Kansas City news station.

There were plenty of people who wanted to sign William Hung for a record deal. Was it because they thought he could sing? No, it was because he was a gimmick and they wanted to cash in on it. He Von actually sang within his own octave he might be a decent singer. But he doesn't. He makes it as camp as Christmas. He really needs to work on his image and voice before he tries to get a singing deal.

The only other person who brings tears to my eyes while singing this was Bianca Ryan (no offense to Hudson, she has her awards already) This kid ROCKS! I don't know if Idol is quite the place for him or not, but one thing I am telling you -- he can sing amazingly well, amazing range, amazing power and the only thing he needs to work on is facial expressions. We'll see what happens next week, huh?

I guess not quite better than anyone on American Idol as Rosie claimed. I think he's got a great voice, but a bit affected, and self indulgent. I think it would sound much better if it were less affected. Good voice though. I guess once he learns that he is good enough not to have to resort to so many runs and riffs, he will be able to just sing a song, and make it sound really great by exhibiting more control, which Adam Lambert does have.

The people you are mentioning are all great performers. But you misunderstood me. The comment I replied to you was more in reference to the black AI singers compared to Von. Don't you think Paris Bennet sounded a whole lot like Gladys Knight? And Lakisha to me sounds like Shirley Ceasar or like any other good gospel choir singer. And that's was I was refering to, that most of these upcoming soul performers sound like someone else. Not that all established black soul singers sound alike.

I like him; he's not as good as Adam Lambert or Danny Gokey, but I hope he doesn't do damage to his vocal chords the way that David Archuleta did. He does have a tremendous vocal range,a dn I wish him the very best on AI.

Most of the posters here are probably too young to know who Sam Harris is, but this kid (who is good) has taken nearly ALL of his style from him; and nobody will ever come close to doing it as well as Sam does. I wish he'd search more for himself (it's in there somewhere), because he feels like a Sam Harris copycat.....
