So many sweaters to pick from as a favorite, by the time I came to the end of your presentation, I had several favorites and can't remember their names. The short sweater that you want to frog, I'd frog it do an insert of the beautiful flowers you made in your designed sweater and add back the area you frogged from the sweater. which are all so very beautiful. I'm envious of your talent. You must live in a cold climate in order to have use of the box of sweaters presented plus more.

I wash all my wool sweaters in the washing machine. It takes a while because nothing else goes in the washer with it. I put the sweater in with cold water, I use Eucilin wool wash and I put the washer on a gentle cycle. It is the agitation that makes wool shrink, so if it put it in the washer there is nothing for it to rub against. I let it go through the whole cycle. When the wash is finished yes, I put it in the dryer all by itself on a gentle cycle on cool. The sweater comes out beautifully. I have never had a problem.

@wellappointedmystic 4 жыл бұрын
I didn't read all 80 comments so someone may have already mentioned this but, its not necessarily the temperature as much as the agitation that causes the shrinkage. Altering the water temp between the wash and rinse will affect the yarn too. So, my advice is cold water, no agitation (front loaders are better for this than top loaders) and little-to-no spin.

Kristin, have you considered modifying the bottom of the Belmont sweater by adding a fabric peplum? You could easily sew a subtle fabric ruffle or even cut the bottom of a button down and sew it onto the hemline. The ruffle would suit the style but the contrast of the mens shirt hemline would be so cool. You could even add the button down cuffs to the sleeve ends for continuity :). With your sewing skills, you could definitely do something fun! My love note is too short for me and i love it so much, but have never worn it. I ran out of the yarn so i can’t add any knitted length onto it, but considered doing what i mentioned above because I’m a sewist as well. Good luck!

OMG, the In Memoriam section for sweaters of the dearly departed! So good. Also sad. But mostly so good. And validating--because don't we all experience this? Moth plagues, gone missing, frogged, and things given away. Loved this!

I thiiiink I may have a solution to the Belmont conundrum. Basically: cast it on again and knit for the length you want to add. Unpick the cast-on for the cardigan and graft on the new rib in kitchener stitch for rib. At least that's what I would do and you wouldn't be able to tell that it's been Frankensteined. :D

I have not knit any of those sweaters, I mostly crochet. I have been considering 2 sweaters for years though, the honey pullover and the Chuck Sweater. At this moment I was feeling braved and cast on the as if tee by Shay . I also need to go through my closet and decide what I actually like and how to pair it.

Loved the Shawl vlog. So happy to see the Sweater vlog. Thank you Kristen. The Pomme De Pin is stunning. Maybe you can use a decorative brooch or pin to overlap the front and keep it in place. Another idea - sew a button on and crochet or knit a cord that can be secured on the opposite side of the cardigan - loop style - if that makes sense. You should wear it more. The pattern is gorgeous. So, is the Belmont cardigan. They both look lovely on you. I think it would look so nice with a dress or with jeans and a cute top. I, also, like the last sweater that you designed and I love Love Notes. So beautiful. I can’t believe you got rid of Featherweight and Chuck they are beautiful too

Hi Kristin. I just wanted to comment on the washing of knits in the mashine. So heat AND spin are the enemies. I am in luck and have a woolprogram on my mashine (cool temperature, and spinning 400-600 spins per minute). Jamieson's is really sturdy, so you probably shrunk it in the spinning, since it looks a bit fluffy too. Merino non superwash - no mashinewash of any kind. Hope you find some suitable setting on your machine.

I made the Felix cardigan. I’m planning on making the pull over next. I made a le pouf in loft by Brooklyn tweed and I can so relate to your description of the yarn. I love the way it feels while still in the hank but it’s so delicate and impossible to frog if you’ve made a mistake. I haven’t worn the sweater yet it’s too warm here but I hope I can get some wear of it as it was a lot of work. 🤷🏽‍♀️

I’ve knit in Brooklyn tweed as well, and found it’s best for pullovers. I think the yarn for a cardigan needs to be sturdier. I have knit a ton of cardigans, and the yarn I keep going back to is peace fleece. It’s not necessarily next to skin soft, but it never pills, it’s super warm, the colors are amazing, and it gives the support that a cardigan needs to not be too floppy. I’ve had a cardigan I’ve worn all the time for the past three years knit in peace fleece, and it looks brand new. It’s definitely a heavier worsted weight, I’ve found that the fabric is perfect on a size 9 needle.

i love workhorse yarns! to me, that's what knitting is all about - making up your own custom fit cozy sweater that will hopefully last for years to come. and in my humble opinion, you can really only ask that of the scratchier wools. i love a good soft and buttery wool as much as the next person, but there's no denying that sweaters knit up with them don't quite last as long.

I love this video. I put some of your sweaters on my favorites on Raverly. Caitlin Hunter is my all time favorite designer too. Many of her patterns I have knit multiple times because they are so wonderful. I totally agree with you about Brooklyn Tweed yarn. I found the Quarry to be way to delicate and the quality doesn't hold up plus they don't give you a lot of yardage for the price.

Very interesting collection! I love the feminine, Victorian feel to the Pomme de Pin cardigan. I think all it needs is some sort of closure to add a bit more waist definition: maybe a frog closure, or a large, ornate button? I love your Belmont cardigan, and it's in my queue awaiting the perfect yarn pairing! I've knit myself a Zweig last year, and I adore it! I am, in fact, planning on frogging back the sleeves and adding another pattern repeat, since they feel just bit too short. I am knitting furiously on a Floozy Cardigan right now out of Voolenvine Yarns Dead Calm - it's soo pretty! - and I am having some serious dream knitting of making the Love Note sweater in Shibui Knits in the Cove colorway...which I bought from your destash! Hah! I would also really like to make a Tegna, however I have some pretty significant concerns that the fit and overall shape will be terribly unflattering on me. So many sweaters...so much yarn...good times!

For the Pomme De Pin cardigan I have a solution for the floppy issue. Sew Grosgrain ribbon into the back of the button band around the neck and down the back of the other button band. It will give it structure, strength, and prevent it from stretching out. For the buttonholes in the ribbon you can do those by hand or lay out the sweater over the ribbon mark the button holes on the ribbon and then do them on the sewing machine. I also put grosgrain ribbon around the bottom ribbing of cardigans. I always prewash the ribbon to make sure there is not a bleed issue.Warning though you can go down a rabbit hole picking out the perfect ribbon. I hope this helps.

I absolutely loved the last one you knit. Fisherman's wool is a lasting one. I knit a cable cowl out of it over 7 years ago and still looks amazing. I Definetly am sad you destashed the Stonecutter as the yarn you used was the Quince and co was lovely with the design. Thats one I want to knit for myself. I also love love The colorwork sweaters for sure❤. The Brooklyn Tweed Yarn Shetler is tricky as its worsted spun I find the Sheltalnd Aran weight from Jaimesons a bit better to hold up better. Oh well I hear ya. I do love their patterns they do give plenty imstructions and tutorials. To each is own and again it has to work for you and it seems it does. For the Belmont I say reblock it to see if you can drape it longer can't hurt. Thanks for sharing your sweaters and always sharing your crafty life with us. Hope you and your family are safe. I've heard that same thing a lot about BT yarns! MY lys told me they stopped carrying it for that reason, but I do like their patterns, especially the men's sweaters! Edit: I bought fishermen's wool at Michaels just because of the sheer amount that you got in one skein, I think it was 1100 yards, which was enough for me to knit a cardigan out of at the time, it was tunisian crochet. Great first pattern choices, Julz! I would recommend Love Note since it's knit top-down, entirely in the round, and has a super simple lace motif. It also has a bit of ease, so you don't have to worry too much about fit/shaping. Fulling vs Felting, there is a difference. I’m assuming, because you can still wear the first cardigan, and it isn’t a tiny, very dense mess, it was fulled and did not felt. Luckily. My Dad totally destroyed a wool pullover of my Mom’s. The funniest part was when I saw it hanging in the line in the basement I said, in shocked tones, “Dad, you shrunk it! “ He said, in offended tones, “No. I didn’t, it will hang out!” LOL. And, NO it didn’t get any larger. It was done for!

B.Tweed highly overrated. I too find it just too delicate and pilly. The colors and tweedy-ness is tempting, but let’s be honest...right?

It’s not your imagination, Brooklyn Tweed is sadly, horribly pilly.
