Ive been hunting since I was 12 and im 54 now. Last year in northern Michigan, I shot the largest doe ive ever shot. Her hind legs were above the 8ft beam in the garage, and her nose was on the concrete. It was a 220+ or - yards broadside. With a 103gr eldx, she went 30 yards and piled up. The 6mm ARC is more than capable of whitetail, especially at ethical ranges for the cartridge. IMO is 400 or less, but in the right hands, the 95gr lrx i could see more, but lots of practice.

As I have said before Ryan, you need to give a serious look at the 6x45 and the 25-45 Sharps. Especially in the AR 15 platform where the 5.56 bolt face is best. With 80 grain ttsx, cci 41 primers and 27.5 grains of Ram Tac I'm getting 2989 fps average mv out of my 25-45 Sharp's with no pressure signs. Out of the 6x45 with 100 grain Interlocks, cci 41 primers 25.5 grains of Ram Tac I'm getting 2741 fps mv with no pressure signs. Both barrels are Blackhole Weaponry 24" stainless steel with their specific rifling which reduces pressure and increases velocity. I used Ram Tac because I have 8 pounds of it and I used cci 41 primers because I couldn't get any more powder in the case! I couldn't find ttsx in the 6mm at that time and I was wanting to use it this season. I started working with mine in the summer also and the whole reason I wanted something off the 5.56 case is because I have a bucket full of Lake City brass.

I welcome any and all content you wish to provide on the _6mm ARC._ The _6mm ARC_ along with the _6.8 Western_ have quickly become my new favorite cartridges. As a 'knowledge junkie', I simply cannot get enough information on those two amazing offerings. With that being said, may I request a cartridge talk on the *.405 Winchester* _and_ the *.32 H&R Magnum?* Please and thank you. Obviously, the .405 Winchester gained notoriety as the favorite cartridge of President/Colonel Theodore (Teddy) Roosevelt. There is _a lot_ to unpack with this rather antiquated cartridge. Its predecessor and successor(s), rifles chamberings, ballistic data, game taken, Teddy's reasoning behind this choice of caliber, etc. The history behind the cartridge is quite fascinating. Especially to the uninitiated. Furthermore, I noticed a dearth of pistol caliber cartridge talks. Forgive me for mentioning this one again, but the *.32 H&R Magnum* has recently experienced a rapid rise in popularity. Thanks to Smith & Wesson/Lipsey's new _Ultimate Carry J-Frame_ (432/632UC model) chambered in the aforementioned *.32 H&R Magnum.* Might be worth discussing both cartridges at a future date, gentlemen. Preferably a round-table including Jim. The trifecta of three minds really adds a greater perspective to all topics of conversation. Stay classy my friends.

single digit % performance increase claims. But only Hornady loads it and can't go as heavy on bullet weight. If you have a 6.5 Grendel, there is not a significant improvement unless you're shooting in higher winds at quite long distance. Within 300 yds? you won't see much difference. By the numbers though, 6.5 grendel delivers more energy within 300 yds when comparing the most common bullet weight with greater expansion diameter. It is mostly hype from Hornady. 22 Arc actually offers something notably different and if you need more energy and less drop at more than 300 yds, go with something like 6.5 CM, 6 CM, or 6 PRC.

224 Valkyrie was a swing and a miss by Federal. The 22 ARC is what the Valk should have been to begin with.
@phild98138 сағат бұрын
22arc and 224 Valkyrie are practically the same, so saying the arc is what the Valkyrie should have been is a bit ridiculous. 224 Valkyrie as a concept was fine and could have killed the 22 arc before it even existed. Issues of its own doing at introduction killed the 224 Valkyrie. Neither are what they should be, as both use ridiculous bolt face diameters. Should have been a 308 or 223 bolt face diameter to make them more ideal.
@joshuatucker74576 сағат бұрын
@@phild9813 there's a fairly significant difference in the case design between the 2. The Valk is too long to fit good bullets in a 2.260 AR mag, while the ARC is ideal for that. If you can't buy factory ammo, then its irrelevant. The 243 smokes it in every way and you can't buy the 6mm ARC or PRC ammo at Walmart. Its the same for the 270. All the fancy 6.5s are blown away by the 270. The reasons why these two cartridges have been successful for so long is obvious. Easier to shoot, with larger calibre effectiveness. If you can make a group at 300 yards smaller than the palm of your hand, then the target is dead. It why the 303 is still popular. Its old, a little slower, but hits very hard out to 500 yards because that was the maximum you shot in war. Whats the most popular calibre in Europe for wild boar? The 30-06 with a 200gn bullet. Lots of powder, heavy bullet and a nice long barrel and lots of speed.

@stevenmonkman77489 сағат бұрын
From an engineering perspective, I really like the copper alloy bullets. You don’t have the parasitic losses (in energy and momentum) that you would have with lead bullets. As the lead bullet deforms and sheds weight, there is a parasitic loss in momentum. It takes energy to disintegrate and deform the bullet, thus there is a parasitic loss in energy. Think about cars with their crumple zones. They are there to dissipate energy in a car collision, so there is less energy transfer to the occupant of the vehicle. If a majority of the energy and momentum transfer goes towards creating a wound channel. It means you can use lighter bullets and smaller charges, to achieve the same effects compared to lead bullets. Which turns means you can use lighter rifles, so less fatigue when hunting.

What does Mark shoot? Also why? Ryan has probably convinced several people to try/switch to Barnes.

Mark favors *.300 WSM* using _Nosler Accubond_ projectiles. Stay classy my friend.

@ I thought it was 200gr Eld-x in 300 wsm. Just by listening/watching I done. Well that was until the built the 300 swsm

I just don't understand why people use a bolt gun for a cartridge where the design was constrained by the dimensions of the AR-15. With a bolt gun, you are not restrained by those limitations. So why constrain yourself and potentially sacrifice performance compared to a different cartridge? In the words of Ryan "it's just fun"

The ARC has 2 different sets of load data, one for gas one for bolt guns. The size restrictions don't matter, all it does is push efficiency to a higher level

When 6 arc first came out I thought the same thing. Then I got one in a bolt gun. Noticeably less recoil than 243 yet close to same performance I hardly ever shoot 243s anymore since getting 6 arc

The restrictions can be lifted based on magazine size/feed type and bolt vs gas action. Plus, keeping close to, or within those constraints leads to really small, light, handy rifles.

How does this so loved and 243 wssm tanked timing I guess

This feeds properly. This is super efficient. It’s also built to chamber the full weight range of 6mm projectiles properly with no customization or modification.

Everyone ignores 6.5 Grendel for 20 years and just eats up Hornady's single digit performance increases at ranges where most people hunt and shoot at. Enjoy the extra cost and social media clout lol

Hornady is a marketing company that sells ammo lol

Believe it or not, people start businesses to make money. Businesses that make products must sell products to make money. If a business doesn’t market their products well, I would tend to question the quality of the business. Consumers have the choice of whether to buy said products or not. I’m not a huge Hornady fan and generally don’t buy much of their products.

6.5grendel isn’t ignored. Huge fan base. For a niche cartridge. And, this is arguably another niche cartridge. It offers a wider range of options for projectile weights and designs. Varmint guys, tactical ar guys, long range guys…. Medium to big game. This covers so many use cases and that’s just in an AR. It’s even cooler when handloading for a bolt action. Plus, yes, shooting sports have grown. Nerding on ballistics is popular now. Hornady is great at marketing and timing!

Ryan, I took your advice about an all around scope from your "Choosing the right hunting riflescope in 2024" kzbin.info/www/bejne/qZ-5aIVthr-mjMk. I bought a Vortex Viper HD 2-10 and mounted it on my only center fire bolt action rifle, a Ruger American Ranch Rifle in 7.62x39. It is a great combination. The Ruger is very accurate with Russian steel cased ammo. With Barnaul ammo it is sub MOA 5 shot goups. 4 shot groups it I've seen 3/8 & 1.2" groups. I am sure it is capable of 5 shots under 1/2" but my skills are the limiting factor. The Vortex optic is perfect for that rifle. I have been considering another bolt action probably in 5.56 or 6.5 Creedmore. But, 6 ARC would probably suit me quite well! Thanks for your videos on 6 ARC as well as everything else you all publish!
