One thing I love about Hemsworth's portrayal is we get these hints that despite all the awful AWFUL things Dementus does, he's not a complete psychopath like Joe. He does genuinely help the Rig escape the angry mob here, granted he NEEDS them to deliver his message to Joe, but it shows he's capable of rational thinking. and When he tortures Jack, he doesn't seem to revel in it, he seems to almost disassociate, as if he's trying to pretend it's not happening. I also get the impression he is TERRIFIED of the Horde, he may be the leader, but he has no REAL control over them, not like Joe does. It makes me think the reason he does what he does to Jack and Furiosa's mother is not out of needless cruelty, but to present himself as someone the Horde should fear, to keep them in line. It's been pointed out he is a a parallel to Max. And one of Max's first lines in Fury Road is "I exist in this wasteland, reduced to one instinct: survive" And I think that fits Dementus as well, but while Max stays a lone drifter and scavenger to survive, Dementus tried to accrue power as part of his survival strategy, and it blew up in his face.
@wilcals52943 ай бұрын
What he did there isn't out of kindness or anything but rather a means to get them to leave immediately without the gas. He basically took the food and water from the rig without having to pay with gas. He could just easily send a rider like before, if he really intends to deliver a message.
@henrymiles10203 ай бұрын
I think he just basiclly went insane, as the title suggests. He went MAD. When he was torturing jack you see him dissociate and lose track of time and said he's bored.
@akosszerdi33913 ай бұрын
He went completely mad! It was a strategy He leaved them without gas and got what he wanted (food) before started his much wanted war! He organised a meeting order to weaken the mine (bullet farm or whatever in english). And it worked. The leaders was distracted at the rock to figure out whats going on and he took over the place. Troughout the whole movie sinc he realised the rock he wanted seize control of it. When he figured out about the other two place he wanted it all! After succeed capturing the oil reserves. He tried to seize the other twoo too. It took a while but eventually got strong enough. Build machinery and train people requires time.

EXACTLY, the people complaining have pretty much openly admitted that they don’t care about what George Miller wants to do with the franchise HE CREATED. But just wants the franchise to stay stagnant, not evolve and revert to the Mad Max films they’re nostalgic for. Really Max and Furiosa are the dual protagonists of Fury Road. Their arcs complement each other's. It's like a Lethal Weapon movie or any other classic two hander. Honestly, if someone considers a movie to be a competition for narrative supremacy among its main characters, then they don't understand how to appreciate a piece of storytelling.

@@thefilmrookie3099 idk if i'd put Star Wars in the same place as Furiosa. Mainly due to George Miller consistently directing and writing the Mad Max films, whilst George Lucas came up with the story and the world. It wasn't until the Prequels when he was able to write the movies himself. The Empire Strikes Back's screenplay was written by Leigh Brackett and Lawrence Kasdan. Then Lucas sold Lucasfilm to Disney, and pretty all the original ideas that the original's had got tossed out the window. George Miller wrote Fury Road as a "revisiting", while the Disney Trilogy is a straight Requel that failed. Though the Mandalorian and Kenobi were pretty good
