Professional golfers do not have guaranteed income. If they don't play well and get cut in a tournament then they will earn zero dollars minus their expenses.

I disagree with one statement: RB-Bora would not have won the team classification without the illness. The gap to UAE was way too large for that, which is mostly due to UAE having multiple riders in the breakaway almost every single day after Almeida dropped out.

The salary is not financed by prize money. They pay out the prize money additionally and a split to the staff as well.

The prize money is low, but they actually get salary. Yates and Rodriguez for example are getting 2.5 million per season, Roglic 4.5 and so on. The prize money, whatever there is, is actually shared among all riders, and sometimes ever the staff. It's like getting tips.

Even the worst world tour cyclists get around 60k annual salary. If the rider has been around at least a while, I can't see them getting less than 100k on weaker teams and 150k on stronger teams.
