great work man....sounds awesome! The timing issue you are having is common, you can go by the book but the specs are published for factory parts as per that year. I use 009 distributors and time the engine 5-7.5 btdc. i bought my hose at Lowe's by the foot.....take care man!

Hello, lock down your vacuum can, if need be file holes to use the locking screws. Then reset the points at 45degrees dwell, about 18 thou. set timing at 1000 rpm vacuum pipe off at 8 deg btdc. Set carb idle screw at 4%co. This should give you smooth acceleration and no flat spot.If the problems persist refit your old dizzy, (same settings). Make sure all your hoses and collars are airtight. If after a run, you can pull the oil dipstick and touch the oil, hot but hurting is good. Luck..

xoxoXoieoxox is correct. Your vacuum can on your distributor goes to the left side of the cab. You have it connected to the intake in the video that will have it under constant vacuum you will never get your timing right.

What would a distributor have to do with pistons and rings?? Looks like you did a good job all in all

Looks like your Bug has been converted to 12 volt. I would do away with the points and invest in Accu Spark Electronic Ignition. You can buy it on Ebay for cheap and set it up at 30-32 degrees BTDC reving at 3000 rpm. I use it in my 68 Bug and have found it benifical. I even achieve less fuel consumption out of the tank at an extra 30 miles. Worth trying out.

As Herberrn noticed your vacuum hose is connected to the wrong port and I've noticed you've fixed it in later videos. I suppose that was the problem wasn't it?

Would it help to get a weighted crank pulley to set timing? I would talk to glenn on the samba (mr. 010)
